[SET COMMENTS]
  • Ting-Lu is the premier Miraidon check in the tier, being able to avoid the 2HKO from it without needing to Terastallize.
  • It can reliably generate chip damage using Ruination when it forces special attackers out, and it can even force Arceus to use up Recover PP. On these forced switches, it can also set up Spikes or Stealth Rock, which further chips down switch-ins for the rest of the game due to the limited distribution of entry hazard removal in the tier.
  • Whirlwind prevents opposing setup threats such as Double Dance Miraidon and Calm Mind Arceus-Ground from snowballing out of control, as well as using its own Spikes for chip damage. Protect can also be used in this moveslot, which allows for more Leftovers recovery and scouting of Choice item users and Tera types. The preference will come down to how much the team relies on Ting-Lu to phaze setup threats such as Calm Mind Arceus and Miraidon.
  • Leftovers is mandatory on Ting-Lu since it does not have any form of reliable recovery.
  • Ting-Lu will very rarely need to use its Tera types, as its natural typing provides a strong Electric immunity for Miraidon. Tera Steel provides a Dragon resistance versus Miraidon while also letting Ting-Lu handle Dazzling Gleam from Calm Mind + Tera Fairy Miraidon, and it also grants an immunity to Toxic from Eternatus and Toxapex. Tera Fairy provides a Dragon immunity against Miraidon, allowing Ting-Lu to better answer Tera Dragon sets with Calm Mind or Choice Specs, and Ting-Lu becomes resistant or immune to Koriadon's STAB moves. However, this comes at the expense of not resisting Fairy versus Tera Fairy Miraidon. Poison resists Close Combat and Zacian-C's Play Rough, and it allows Ting-Lu to absorb Toxic Spikes. Tera Water allows it to take Kyogre's STAB moves while also resisting Koraidon's Flare Blitz. It also lets Ting-Lu check the rare, but otherwise hard to check, Chi-Yu and Walking Wake. While all of these are good options for Ting-Lu, it benefits much more from its natural typing and should only Terastallize as a last resort.
  • Ting-Lu can also switch in safely against most defensive Pokemon in the tier, such as support Arceus formes, Groudon, Skeledirge, Giratina-O, and Toxapex, and then use this opportunity to set up a hazard or generate chip damage with Ruination.
  • It struggles against physical threats such as Koraidon, Zacian-C, and Arceus, so it is best paired with Pokemon such as defensive Arceus-Fairy, Skeledirge, Groudon, and Toxapex that can switch into them reliably. Ting-Lu can also enable teammates such as Choice Scarf Koraidon, Miraidon, and Kyogre to clean more easily with the chip damage it generates from Ruination.
  • Due to Ting-Lu being unable to reliably check Choice Specs Miraidon long-term, it’s best to have some form of speed control alongside it, whether it be Choice Scarf Koraidon or Zacian-C.
  • Ting-Lu can function as a team's sole special wall, but it does appreciate naturally bulky Pokemon such as Kyogre and Groudon to handle some hits, which lets Ting-Lu remain a reliable Miraidon check. It can also pair well alongside the tier's Defoggers, Giratina-O and Corviknight as it is prone to Spikes chip damage and appreciates avoiding that to better check Miraidon. In a similar vein, Eternatus and Toxapex are good Toxic Spikes absorbers, the former of which can also soft check Kyogre and special Arceus formes.

You 100% need Tera Steel as first Tera Type Slash, second slash should be Fairy. These are the most important tera types because they allow you to take on Specs/CM Miraidons much better which is the primary thing Ting-Lu is supposed to check; Ghost and Poison are pretty much greed options as far as I see it. I think Tera Water is an OK 3rd slash just for teams who want Kyogre insurance and have back-up Miraidon options.

Makes sense, am confused why Steel > Fairy then though, it’s worse at checking Miraidon while also being worse into most mons that wanna switch in to Ting-Lu

Am also confused how Water’s not a greedy option if Ghost/Poison are. Ghost I can kinda see it but Poison’s a pretty safe bet on any team without a grounded Poison for Toxic Spikes.

Will implement the first two and remove Ghost but I’d wanna hear from others on Water/Poison

EDIT: Implemented

Tera Steel is used as CM Mirai either runs CM Tera Dragon Draco Meteor or CM Tera Fairy Dazzling Gleam, so Steel covers both options well. The Poison immunity can also prove useful against Eternatus, and the Fairy-type resistance is a helpful against CM Arceus-Fairy forms.

Tera Fairy is similar; it has a less good match-up against Tera Fairy Mirai but covers Tera Dragon better and it can be used as a resist against Korai if you wanted that.

Water is indeed mostly a greed option IMO but Kyogre in general is very hard to check, so it provides more useful defensive utility than just going Ghost to get some extra spikes on a Koraidon. Water has an additional benefit against Chi-Yu or Walking Wake who both can be very hard to have a proper switch-in as well.

Also, Protect should be a second slash on the Whirlwind slot.

Sounds good, implemented the types and reordered for Steel first - gonna keep Poison tho since not every team can reliably fit a grounded poison and it’s a solid out vs opposing Toxic Spikes if needed.

Is the Protect slash worth it? I’m not sure if it can fit it post-HOME given the sheer number of setup threats it wants to Whirlwind out. The recovery is nice but nearly every team would prefer the ability to phaze out set up threats. Will add a line about it if it’s deemed necessary

It has a good amount of uses - Whirlwind has seen more usage in the post-Home meta as CM Arceus forms have been on the stage, but honestly a lot of them beat you anyway (like Arc-Fairy) or can Taunt you (Arc-Dark).

Protect keeps your Ting-Lu much healthier thanks to the extra lefties recovery (important especially vs Specs Miraidon), and its ability to scout cannot be underestimated, especially in a Tera-legal meta. Let's take the aforementioned CM Miraidon case - Protect will let you scout both what move Miraidon will use and if Miradon terastallized or not, which eases prediction greatly as you don't have to play the tera mindgame nearly as much. It can also be used in cases where something like Scarf Koraidon comes in and you can scout for an attack or if they will U-Turn- in U-Turn's case it may be worth it for Ting-Lu to stay in and get up a Spikes layer. I tend to run Protect on teams where I already have enough countermeasures against CM Arceus stuff/Cresselia.

Makes sense, implemented this!

Looks pretty good; I think it's worth mentioning Defoggers (Gira-O/Corv) and T-Spike absorbers (Etern/Pex) at the end somewhere; as even though Ting sets up hazards itself, it's vulnerable to being chipped over time which can leave your defensive core open as a result. (Etern has benefit of taking on Kyogre/CM Arcs too)

I think this is really solid! I might mention that teams with Ting-Lu usually appreciate some form of speed control in Zacian / Scarf Koraidon as well, since Specs Miraidon can usually brute force through Ting-Lu regardless!
