THE SHUCKLE SHOW

(BATON PASS CHAIN!!! (RMT))

I’ve always loved watching those people on YouTube who take the most ridiculous Pokémon ever and put it threw a baton pass chain and, well, annihilate everything! Now, I’m sure that half of those were all staged, and the other half took a lot of tries in order for it to work. However, the idea of it has brought me to create a different (possibly competitive) baton pass chain team using a ridiculous Pokémon strategically in order to win. Now, with the addition of Stealth Rocks and Toxic Spikes in DPP, the popularity of such teams has gone down considerably. However, I feel that this team may deserve a shot. I’m posting this though because I haven’t made it yet and want to know from you guys if it’s worth pursuing. (WARNING: For Stat Calculations I use stats at Lv. 50, because that’s how I battle. Not sure how much this will affect it. If you absolutely need my calculations at Lv. 100, let me know.) This is also my first RMT, so I would really like some feedback to make it better. If I’m doing something wrong, please let me know. Also if someone’s already tried this, PLEASE let me know! I don’t want to seem like a copycat.

Shuckle! With a ridiculously poor move pool, it makes it hard to use at all. It can hardly wall, it can’t trap, it seems almost useless. It, however, was given the gimmick option in the 4th gen to use Power Trick. Hmmm… I wonder if I could do anything with this.

The classic trap passer... How can a baton pass chain work without this guy? I was originally wanting to start him off as a lead, however, considering his poor base 65 speed making the team vulnerable to a Taunter, I decided otherwise. He’s there to set up a Mean Look. I’ve also given him Double Team because I thought it might be a good idea on a Baton Pass Team. I’ve never seen this before, so I’m a little questionable on this.

Look! A Smeargle on a baton pass chain! How original! (Just kidding) This guy is here to start us off with a “faster” lead. He’s going to Spore my potential Taunter, Ingrain for some health and stop from pseudo-hazing, and then Baton Pass to my Umbreon in wait. My hope is that my opponent won’t recognize that I’m baton passing. If they did, they’d immediately Taunt me. Instead, I’m hoping they won’t see it as a threat and then just setup entry hazards or something. He’s also got Belly Drum for when the time comes.

Gorebyss is here because I want Shuckle to have some… Defense? I’ll talk more about this later on.

I’ve got him because I need some Speed. I’m really relying on this guy. I don’t really like the idea of using your everyday, common Baton Passers. I’m pretty open to changing this though, as long as it’s creative. Maybe a Fearow with Agility and Baton Pass (Pokémon XD, 3rd Gen)???

WHAT!!! He pulls out a Slaking??? What is he thinking? When all else fails, there’s Slaking. He’s the backbone of this team. I don’t care if he has Truant, because he can definitely make up for it. If my Shuckle fails, and I’ve still got Baton Passers, I’m going to setup a little and go to Slaking. With tremendous bulk and versatility, he just needs a little help to compromise his ability and he’s good. I don’t know how good of an idea this is though. Am I missing something? Maybe I should go to Regigigas, instead for the same idea of Slaking with somewhat better ability?

Smeargle @ Focus Sash

Ability: Own Tempo

Nature: Jolly

EV’s: 252 HP / 4 Defense / 252 Speed

Moveset:

Baton Pass
Ingrain / Taunt
Belly Drum / Taunt
Spore

Overview:

He’s my lead. He’s there to Spore whatever comes out, Ingrain to prevent losing my boosts by forcing a switch, Baton Pass out and then later Belly Drum. I feel that I may need Taunt though, so that’s why that’s up there. With Max Speed, it hits 139 (at Lv. 50), which is hopefully enough to Spore who’s coming out. My problem is that if it gets hit, it probably won’t get to Belly Drum, unless I have a wish passer. The problem with that is described below. Otherwise, it’s pretty straightforward. The spread is for Speed and Health, obviously enough. I really wish something as versatile as Smeargle had higher speed though… What he may need also would be Substitute to help, even though it would just about nullify the Focus Sash. I could switch leads to Umbreon and try Trap-Passing first and getting evasion up so that they can’t switch to a pseudo-hazer. The two problems with this is that I don’t have ingrain, meaning if his lead is a pseudo-hazer I’m gone to something random, which is random as there are few common leads that do this, if any, to my knowledge. The other problem with this would be that Smeargle would be left vulnerable to an attack on the switch, though with hopeful evasion this may not be a big problem. Any suggestions/ideas?

Umbreon @ Leftovers

Ability: Synchronize

Nature: Bold

EV’s: 252 HP / 84 Defense / 172 Speed

Moveset:

Baton Pass
Double Team
Confuse Ray / Wish
Mean Look

Overview:

Umbreon, obviously enough, is a vital part of this team. I thought of this after fighting Karen’s Umbreon in the HGSS Elite four. She confused me, which wasn’t good, and then it sucked more because she wouldn’t stop Double Teaming me. With this idea, though, hopefully I’ll be able to avoid a lot of problems. I’ve got Confuse Ray listed to keep the trapped Pokémon from attacking me so often while I setup, as described previously. Its bulk should allow this to work out. The problem with this set is that it lacks Wish, which comes very handy obviously enough. The Umbreon I have for this was bred without Wish because it was made for another purpose. I would just make another, but this one has 31 Defense and Special Defense IV, which was pretty cool as I only bred it for Defense IVs. But, of course, I can always make another. What I could do instead would be to get a Girafarig with Wish, which would work too. I just like my Girafarig, namely because mine is shiny, but it doesn’t have Wish. So who were we talking about? Oh, right, back to Umbreon. I’m not that good with EV spreads and calculations, but with this spread, he could potentially be a lead. His defenses would be about even with this and his health would be monstrous. Overall, I’m fine with it how it is, but am definitely open to suggestions.

Gorebyss @ Leftovers

Ability: Swift Swim

Nature: Bold / Calm

EV’s: 252 HP / 252 Defense / 4 Speed (Bold) or 252 HP / 252 Special Defense / 4 Speed (Calm)

Moveset:

Baton Pass
Aqua Ring / Substitute
Iron Defense
Amnesia

Overview:

My problem with Gorbyss is that it won’t outspeed a thing unless it gets its boost from Girafarig beforehand, which wouldn’t work because Girafarig would be frail while trying to boost. Regardless, his purpose is to setup Defenses with Iron Defense and Amnesia and then get in either a Substitute or Aqua Ring. Which one should I go for? I’m having trouble balancing its defenses though. If the trapped Pokemon I’m fighting is a Physical Sweeper, and I’m setup to be Specially bulky, I could be in for trouble (this goes vice-versa). I would definitely like suggestions for a Spread and Nature, please.

Girafarig @ Leftovers

Ability: Early Bird

Nature: Timid

EV’s: 252 HP / 4 Special Defense / 252 Speed

Moveset:

Baton Pass
Calm Mind
Agility
Thunder Wave / Wish

Overview:

It’s Girafarig, there’s not much to say for it. It’s there to give me some speed with Agility. If somehow Gorebyss failed to give me more Special Defense, I’ve got Girafarig here for that. I would have gone for Amnesia here, but I’m going for Calm Mind because I had to chain for this Shiny Girafarig, so no Amnesia for me. The last slot is up to debate. If I realize early on I’m having trouble stopping the lead, I could switch Girafarig in early and use Thunder Wave to cripple it. Wish would be there because it’s Wish. You just can’t beat recovery. The problem with this is that I chained for this guy, thus no Wish. What do you think? Should I breed him to get Wish with virtually no chance of a shiny? What should I do?

Shuckle_shell.png

Shuckle @ Leftovers

Ability: Sturdy

Nature: Jolly

EV’s: 88 HP / 124 Attack / 124 Special Attack / 172 Speed

Moveset:

Power Trick
Bug Bite
Earthquake
Rock Slide

Overview:

What does he think he’s doing!!! Putting Max Speed on a Shuckle with a Speed beneficial nature!!! Believe it or not, this guy, with +6 Speed, beats out all max speed with speed beneficial nature. It gives him 51 Speed (at Lv. 50, once again). With this spread, (calculated with only Attack and Speed at 31, rest at worst possible 0 because it’s not always ideal) he gets 91 HP at worst, 46 Attack, 235 Defenses at worst, 27 Special Attack at worst, and 51 Speed. All of these, hopefully, will be +6, giving it 184 Attack, 940 Defenses at worst, 108 Special Attack at worst, and 204 Speed. This with Power Trick, allows him to, well, sweep and still take a hit. I don’t see what could be wrong with this, which is why I want this rated. Bug Bite for STAB, Earthquake for sheer power, and Rock Slide for more STAB. Even if someone resists these, it’ll still hurt (and probably kill) everything with its newfound monstrous attack.

SlakingEarthquake.PNG

Slaking @ Leftovers

Ability: Truant

Nature: Adamant

EV’s: 252 HP / 252 Attack / 4 Spe

Moveset:

Slack Off
Return
Fire Punch
Earthquake

Overview:

He’s my backup. If I’m not feeling confident in Shuckle, I would Baton Pass to this guy to see that the job gets done. Otherwise, in the event of a fail at Shuckle, I’ve got this powerhouse to rely on. Slack off is for recovery, the other attack to, well attack with good coverage. Return is the main attack of this set. Earthquake is for anything with immunity/resistance to Return. Fire Punch is for the Levitating steels that would otherwise potentially wall me. I’m afraid it may need some Special Attack (It would do fine with 95 Base Special Attack) and therefore I would have to change a lot. I can’t think of any physical walls that could take this guy with boosts (hopefully) for long. I’m open to suggestions for changing though, if it’s absolutely needed.

Summary:

Overall, I like it, but I feel there are things that could hold it back. Something else before you suggest: I like creativity. If you’re coming to me with an average set with an average Passer, I’ll be less likely to take it. My items seem like they need some work, too if anyone has suggestions. Please Rate and Comment!

I’m posting this though because I haven’t made it yet and want to know from you guys if it’s worth pursuing.

You're in violation of the rule quoted below:
RMT rules said:
16. Play with your team before putting it up for rate. We as a community cannot emphasize this enough. No one wants to rate the team that you freshly created while eating breakfast or the gimmick you randomly put together. We as a community want teams that have been battle tested so that the obvious flaws have been hammered out.

Also note that this team seems at best a gimmick.
