I started out with my core, Rotom-Wash and Heatran. I heard that this was "The Core Of OU" because they complement each other very well. However, I saw a huge weakness to Mold Breaker Excadrill as well as a fighting type weakness that Rotom cannot switch into. Rotom-Wash's EVs in speed are enough to outspeed Jolly base 50 mons such as Azumarril. Heatran's EVs are enough to outspeed most other Defensive Trans and hit them with Earth Power and also to outspeed 0 speed Mega Venusaur and taunt it. Toxic is another part of stallbreaking. The rest of the sets are standard. The sets are as follows.
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 212 Def / 48 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 232 SpD / 28 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Lava Plume
- Taunt
- Earth Power
- Toxic

I added Mega Venusaur to round out the core. It takes care of the Fighting Type weakness as well as being a semi counter to Excadrill. Heatran helps cover its Psychic Weakness as well as taking on boosted Volcaronas that can KO it. Rotom-Wash and Heatran both take out its Flying Type weakness and the former can KO the ever famous Talonflame. I have Sludge Bomb for dealing with Magic Guard Clefable and other grass types. And the other moves give optimal HP recovery. Mega Venusaur itself is a counter to a wide portion of the meta, such as Mega Altaria, Gengar, Thundurus, and opposing Rotom-Washs. The special defense investment makes Venusaur able to counter Manaphy and Serperior, which are difficult to overcome without it. The set is as follows.
Venusaur (M) @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Leech Seed
- Synthesis

The next thing i needed on my team was a stealth rock setter. I had always wanted to use defensive Garchomp. Here it is, the most used Mon in OU. Garchomp's various weaknesses to Dragon, Fairy, and Ice all are covered by my core. My team was lacking on the physical side, so a great physical attacker and physical tank was in order. In addition to be a phenomenal stealth rocker, Garchomp is a shuffler with Dragon Tail. It can prevent mons from setting up, which is the bane of this team. Earthquake was chosen as a powerful STAB move that works great with Chomper. Endure was chosen over Fire Blast because it gives Chomp another turn of Rocky Helmet Rough Skin damage. This is great against mons like Mega Lopunny and Mega Metagross when Chomp is weakened. It can even tank hits that are super effective and retaliate with its high HP, Defense, and Attack. It also has the highest speed on the team. The set is as follows
Garchomp (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Dragon Tail
- Stealth Rock
- Endure
- Earthquake

At this point, I thought my greatest weakness are setup sweepers. I needed a solution to them in case they got past Heatran and their counters. An example of this is if a double dance Landorus-Therian got past Rotom-Wash. I decided to do a reactive counter instead of a proactive check. I decided to use Unaware. Clefeable was the best user as it fit best with my team. I put Heal Bell.on it to use it as a cleric and moonblast for a strong STAB move. I made it a wish passer so it can heal pokemon on my team such as Chomp and Tran who have no reliable recovery. Protect helps rack up Leftovers recovery to avoid a KO and it can also scout out moves of the opponent. The EV spread helps avoid 2HKOs from Lopunny and Kyurem, standard Smogon EVs. It counters Dragons such as the Latis for Comp and counters Heatran's fighting weakness. Its own weakness of Poison and Steel are handled by Garchomp and Rotom-Wash. The set is as follows.

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 164 Def / 96 SpD
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
- Moonblast

The last thing I needed on my team is a defogger. I had many options such as Lati@s, Mandibuzz, and Scizor. I chose Scizor because of its synergy with Clefable and Heatran. I also needed a priority user, and Technician boosted Bullet Punch fit the bill. I gave it U-Turn for VoltTurn with Rotom-Wash. Roost was added for reliable recovery. It can help beat Celebi, Weavile, and Diancie. As well as severly damaging Kyurem-Black. I chose Rocky Helmet as the item for extra recoil damage to opponents. The EVs were chosen to make it a mixed tank with some offensive capability.

Scizor @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 84 Atk / 176 SpD
Impish Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-Turn
- Defog
- Roost

MAIN COUNTERS
· The first counter is Metagross-Mega. My plans for taking it out are to burn it with Rotom or beat it with Garchomp.
· Another counter is Chansey. My plans to beat it are to use Garchomp to rack up recoil on it.
· Mold Breaker Excadrill. My plans to beat it are to Hydro Pump it with Rotom-Wash or beat it 1v1 with Venusaur
· Kyurem-Black. My team thrives on defensive abilities and immunities, thus Teravolt helps destroy it. It removes Thick Fat, Flash Fire, and Levitate, and no one on my team is faster than it.

SUMMARY

The team itself shares no common weaknesses thanks to its defensive abilities and immunities. It has gone under extensive testing and reached 1460 in laddering. I stopped testing at this point and it is currently 1403 on the ladder. I plan to battle more with it.

Hey cromagnet42, solid build. VenuTran + Clef & Bulky Ground is a really great defensive backbone for bulky offense / balance teams.

The synergy seems on point, so it's only the spreads and sets I have suggestions for.

For one, run 20 Speed EVs on Venusaur. This allows you to outspeed max speed Adamant Azumarill and also stuff that speed creep it like Mandibuzz. This is nice for being able to get off Synthesis before Mandibuzz can Taunt you, and being able to take out an Azu without taking any unnecessary damage.

I also think you should run Knock Off > Leech Seed since you're SpDef and this is your most reliable way of taking on Gengar. Gengar can just Substitute on you or Taunt you and there's nothing you can really do back. Knock Off allows you to hit it as well as get rid of a Gothitelle's Choice item to prevent it from using Trick on another member on your team to cripple them. Removing recovery from Heatran and Ferrothorn, getting rid of Chansey's Eviolite, and also surprising Lati switch-ins is always nice.

Next, you should run 48 Speed EVs on Heatran to outspeed Pokemon that speed creed Azumarill like Bulky Scizor, M-Venusaur, opposing Heatran, and Mandibuzz. This allows you to get the most out of Taunt.

You should run Fire Blast > Endure on Garchomp for fast M-Scizor which can trouble your team if Rotom-W is low on HP, as well as run 96 Speed EVs to outspeed base 70s like Bisharp, Breloom, and all non-Jolly Scizor.

Run Leftovers > Rocky Helmet on Scizor to help with longevity and being able to consistently check M-Metagross and Kyurem-B when hazards are up, and to make you not feel forced to Roost as often. This is helpful for if you can't Defog on something like a Taunt Skarmory, but can maintain your health to switch-in on hazards at a later time to safely Defog. You could also run Defog Skarm to deal with Mold Breaker Excadrill i suppose.

You should also run Magic Guard Calm Mind Clefable > Unaware Cleric since you already have SpDef Venu to check Manaphy, and there are no boosters that your team can't handle. This also gives you a win condition since your team has no clear way to end games outside of hoping you chip away at your opponent enough and hope to outlive them by end game.

Lastly, since you already have M-Venusaur to efficiently check Azumarill, i think you should change your Rotom-W spread to 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe for more bulk. M-Pinsir is a massive threat to your team at +2 since it can easily OHKO everything bar Rotom-W, so you should optimize your bulk to be able to stomach its hits as much as possible. The 8 EVs in speed is to outspeed Adamant Crawdaunt.
