1v1 Terrakion [QC 3/3] [GP 2/2]

pqs

Banned deucer.
[OVERVIEW]

Terrakion's high Attack stat along with an above-average Speed tier, powerful moves, and Rock typing makes it an interesting anti-metagame Pokemon in 1v1. Its unique Rock / Fighting typing lets it beat an interesting list of Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Tapu Lele, Mega Gardevoir, Porygon-Z, and Mega Tyranitar. Furthermore, access to utility such as Taunt, Swords Dance, and Rock Tomb allows it to set up and win against stall-based targets that would otherwise just win against it, such as Mew, Type: Null, Tapunium Z Tapu Fini, stall Deoxys-S, and Registeel. Unfortunately, Terrakion's poor bulk and only above-average Speed make it susceptible to faster, more hyper offensive Pokemon like Greninja, Zeraora, Choice Scarf Haxorus, Mega Lopunny, Naganadel, Pheromosa, and offensive Deoxys-S. Lastly, Terrakion's Attack stat is high, but there are many bulky Pokemon in the metagame that can survive a hit from it, such as bulky Dragonite, Mega Slowbro, and Primarina.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Stone Edge is able to turn into Continental Crush for high damage output, which allows Terrakion to beat mainly both Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Gardevoir, offensive Genesect, Togekiss, and Victini. Taunt is used to block many setup or stall Pokemon, such as Kee Berry Mew, Stored Power Necrozma, Aron, and Riolu, from using their boosting moves right away. Close Combat is used to cover Normal-, Dark-, Rock-, and Steel-types that are neutral against or resist Stone Edge, such as Porygon2, Porygon-Z, Mega Tyranitar, and non-Choice Scarf Excadrill. Swords Dance allows Terrakion to beat Tapunium Z Tapu Fini. Alternatively, Rock Tomb has its niche in slowing down and beating Choice Scarf Dragonite, stall Deoxys-S, and Earthquake Crustle.

Set Details
========

252 Attack EVs allow Terrakion to OHKO Tapu Lele and bulky Choice Specs Genesect most of the time. 252 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature let Terrakion outspeed maximum base 100 Speed Pokemon and above such as Blacephalon, Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Gardevoir, and Mew, as well as outspeeding and KOing Modest Naganadel. 4 EVs are added to Special Defense for a better matchup against Choice Scarf non-Flash Cannon Genesect, as it will get a Download boost in Attack instead of Special Attack. Rockium Z combined with Stone Edge gives Terrakion a high damage output to beat common metagame threats such as Mega Charizard X and Y, non-bulky Tapu Lele, and Genesect.

A bulkier EV spread of 16 HP / 244 Atk / 48 SpD / 200 Spe still allows Terrakion to outspeed base 100s and Landorus while being able to take a hit from and OHKO Choice Scarf offensive Genesect, but bulky Genesect is the more common set.

Usage Tips
========

The combination of Taunt and Swords Dance is useful for Counter Registeel; use Taunt turn one, and then set up with Swords Dance. However, against non-Counter Registeel, either Swords Dance or Taunt will work. Against Tapunium Z Tapu Fini, you should use Swords Dance turn one, since it can't KO Terrakion, and then use Continental Crush turn two, instead of Taunt. Also, in some situations, you'd want to use Taunt to block stall Pokemon or gimmicks like Kee Berry Mew, stall Necrozma, Type: Null, Pyukumuku, Aron, and Riolu from setting up against Terrakion. Most of the time, you'd want to use Continental Crush rather than any of Terrakion's status moves due to the huge damage outburst KOing most of its winning matchups like Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Gardevoir, and Victini with or without the super effective damage. There are particular inverse situations, though, where you'd want to use a tactical move, a status move like Taunt or Swords Dance, or an attacking move like Rock Tomb to set up on foes, like against Mew, gimmick Pokemon, Tapunium Z Tapu Fini, Choice Scarf Dragonite, and Crustle. Against Meloetta, Continental Crush is a roll to KO it or not, so it's best to use Continental Crush turn one to hope for the high roll or critical chance. Against Mega Sableye, Mega Venusaur, or Deoxys-S, play like they don't have Will-O-Wisp, Giga Drain, or Taunt, because you'll need to use Swords Dance to win on the first turn in Mega Sableye's case and Taunt to win in the latter's case. Against Deoxys-S, play like they're status-move based, using Rock Tomb until Terrakion outspeeds it and then Taunt until it faints to Struggle recoil.

Team Options
========

Bulkier Pokemon that are slower but can take hits and dish out more damage over time, such as bulky Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, Mega Metagross, and Meloetta, make a good fit for Terrakion, as it struggles to deal with hyper offense Pokemon such as Greninja, Choice Scarf Landorus-T, Mega Lopunny, and Naganadel; Terrakion in return can cover slow stall-oriented Pokemon that most bulky offense Pokemon lose to,(AC) such as Tapunium Tapu Fini and non-Giga Drain Mega Venusaur. Steel-types such as Magearna, Magnezone, Celesteela, Ferrothorn, and Magneton are able to beat the common Fairy-types that Terrakion loses to such as Magearna, Clefable, Tapu Bulu, and Mega Mawile. In return, Terrakion can cover the Fire-types that most of these Steel-types may lose to, such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Heatran, and Victini. Fairy- and Psychic-types such as Mega Mawile, Mega Altaria, Mega Gardevoir, Hoopa-U, and Mew can cover the Fighting-types like Mega Blaziken, Kommo-o, and Mega Lopunny that resist Continental Crush and, in most cases, can also take Terrakion's attacks or outspeed and KO it. In return, Terrakion can beat some of the Steel-types that Fairy- and Psychic-types lose to most of the time, such as Heatran, Genesect, and Registeel.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Substitute can be used over Swords Dance or Taunt, though it's only a niche pick to beat Slaking or force Pokemon like Mega Blaziken into mind games. A standard Terrakion set with Substitute and Earthquake can also be utilized, mostly to reliably beat Aegislash. A Choice Scarf set can be used to catch faster, less bulky Pokemon off guard and KO them, such as Mega Lopunny and Greninja, at the price of losing out on a powerful Z-Move and status moves. A bulkier Terrakion spread with high HP and high Defense or Special Defense and Rock Tomb allows it to beat threats like Choice item Dragonite, Magnezone, and Timid Naganadel but loses out on many matchups that fast Terrakion beats such as Mega Gardevoir, Tapu Lele, and Victini.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Water- and Ground-types**: Most Water- and Ground-types, such as Mega Gyarados, Primarina, Greninja, Garchomp, Zygarde, and Landorus-T, can withstand Terrakion's STAB attacks and KO back or outright outspeed and KO it with their respective STAB moves.

**Steel-types**: Most Steel-types happen to have a typing that either neutralizes Close Combat's super effectiveness or are just outright bulky enough to take it and KO Terrakion, such as Mega Metagross, Magearna, Mega Scizor, Jirachi, and Celesteela.

**Bulky Nukes**: Pokemon like non-Choice Scarf Dragonite, Kommo-o, Mewnium Z Mew, and Choice Specs Necrozma can all take a hit from Terrakion and OHKO it in return with either a Z-Move or a Choice item-boosted attack.

**Bulky Setup Pokemon**: Z-Celebrate Meloetta, Mega Altaria, and Clefable all can set up on Terrakion while taking Continental Crush or Close Combat and OHKO it.

**Sturdy Pokemon**: Most Pokemon with the ability Sturdy such as Sawk, Donphan, Golem, Magnezone, and Gigalith can take a hit from Terrakion and retaliate with a powerful move.

**Faster Hyper Offense Pokemon**: Fast Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Haxorus, Hoopa-U, Zeraora, Mega Lopunny, and offensive Deoxys-S can easily outspeed and OHKO Terrakion without time for retaliation.

Ready for qc, will probably need help elaborating stuff into smaller sentences.
PS: We worked out over discord that fat terrakion probably won't be a main set unless someone can make a really optimized set

[OVERVIEW]

  • Terrakion's high Attack stat along with an above average speed tier and powerful moves make it an interesting Pokemon in the 1v1 metagame, because of it being the best a strong and fast Rock-type Pokemon in the metagame. [It isn't the best fast Rock-type pokemon, considering Archeops is higher rated, and Diancie-Mega and Nihilego are rated with Terrakion]
  • Terrakion's Rock / Fighting typing is only owned by itself, making an interesting list of Pokemon that its able to beat, such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Tapu Lele, Mega Gardevoir, Porygon-Z, Mega Tyranitar, and Aggron.
  • Having access to status-moves such as Taunt and Swords Dance allow it to be able to set up and win against stall-based targets which would otherwise just win against Terrakion, such as Mew, Type: Null, and Registeel.
  • Terrakion's above average speed allows it to outspeed common metagame threats such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Mew, Victini, Porygon-Z, and Kyurem.
  • On the flip side, Terrakion's useless ability, Justified, is one of the hindrances that make Terrakion a flawed force, where a lot of common metagame threats in 1v1 such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Gyarados, and Dragonite all rely on their abilities.
  • Furthermore, Terrakion's frail bulk and only above average speed makes it susceptible to faster, more hyper offensive Pokemon. Examples include Greninja, Zeraora, Choice Scarf Haxorus, Mega Lopunny, Nagandel, Pheromosa, and Deoxys-S.
  • Also, Terrakion struggles to beat sleep-based Pokemon that can outspeed it such as Jumpluff and Mega Gengar. [Jumpluff loses to Taunt > Close Combat to break sub and then Continental Crush]
  • Lastly, Terrakion's Attack stat is high but there are many bulky Pokemon in the metagame that can survive a hit from it. Examples include Dragonite, Mega Slowbro, Primarina, and Mega Sableye.

Moves
========

  • Stone Edge is Terrakion's main move on this set, being able to turn into Continental Crush for a high damage output. This move allows Terrakion to beat mainly both Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Gardevoir, Meloetta, Genesect, Togekiss, and Victini. [It doesn't beat Meloetta. Continental Crush doesn't OHKO and Z-Celebrate outspeeds into Psyshock or Psychic OHKOs.]
  • Taunt is used to block many set-up or stall Pokemon from using their boosting-moves right away. Examples of what this can beat include Kee Berry Mew, Stored Power Necrozma, Aron, or Riolu.
  • Close Combat is used to cover Normal-, Dark-, Rock-, and Steel-types which are neutral against or resist Stone Edge. Examples of these types include Porygon2, Porygon-Z, both Tyranitar and its Mega forme, Excadrill, and Aggron.
  • Swords Dance is used to boost Terrakion's attack by 2 stages, allowing Terrakion to beat non-Waterium Tapu Fini, Registeel, and Type: Null.

Set Details
========

  • 16 HP and 48 Special Defense are optimized to take a hit from a Choice Scarf Genesect's Flash Cannon, whilst retaliating with a Continental Crush.
  • 252 Attack EVs allow Terrakion to OHKO Tapu Lele and bulky Choice Specs Genesect most of the time.
  • 192 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature let Terrakion outspeed max speed + a boosting nature base-100 Speed Pokemon, such as max speed Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Gardevoir, and Mew.
  • Rockium Z combined with Stone Edge gives Terrakion a high damage output especially when combined with Swords Dance to beat common metagame threats such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Tapu Lele, and Genesect.

Usage Tips
========

  • If you don't know if the opposing Gyarados has a Mega Stone or not, use Continental Crush turn one as they have the chance of not holding a Mega Stone, therefore not being able to Mega Evolve, so you can get a super effective move off. Also, some Mega Gyarados don't Mega Evolve anyways due to being new to the metagame. [The reason you do this is because Close Combat doesn't OHKO Mega Gyarados anyways and it's better to predict a normal Gyarados so you can actually OHKO it before it OHKOs you. Change to reflect this]
  • Against almost all Fire-, Bug-, Flying-, and Ice-types, you should almost always use Continental Crush against them unless they have another type that resists Rock-, and is weak to Fighting-moves. Examples of these Pokemon that you should use Continental Crush against are Mega Charizard X and Y, Genesect, Mega Pinsir, and Kyurem.
  • When you're against bulkier Pokemon which can't OHKO you turn 1, use Swords Dance to set yourself up for higher damage turn 2 with Continental Crush, or higher damage over time with Close Combat, instead of using Continental Crush into Stone Edge, spamming Close Combat, or Continental Crush into Close Combat. Examples of where you should use Swords Dance turn 1 are against Tapu Fini, Registeel, and Type: Null. [Against defensive set-up like Registeel you should use Taunt before Swords Dance]
  • Also, in some scenarios you'd want to use Taunt to block stall-Pokemon from setting up against Terrakion. Examples include Kee Berry Mew, Stall Necrozma, and Pyukumuku.
  • Against gimmick Pokemon, always use Taunt turn 1 to stop them, no matter what, examples include Aron, Riolu, and Sub-Endeavor Donphan.
  • [Against Metal Burst Aggron, use you stone edge first so you don't lose to that]

Team Options
========

  • Bulkier Pokemon that are slower but can take hits and dish out more damage over time make a good fit for Terrakion, as it struggles to deal with hyper offense Pokemon that bulky offense Pokemon can deal with such as Greninja, Zeraora, Scarf Landorus-T, Mega Lopunny, and Naganadel. Examples of these bulkier Pokemon that would be good teammates for Terrakion include Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, Mega Metagross, and Meloetta, Terrakion in return can cover slow stall-oriented Pokemon that most bulky offense Pokemon lose to such as Tapu Fini, non-Giga Drain Mega Venusaur, and Aggron.
  • Steel-types such as Magearna, Magnezone, Celesteela, Ferrothorn, and Magneton are able to beat the common Fairy-types that Terrakion loses to such as Magearna, Clefable, Tapu Bulu, and Mega Mawile. In return, Terrakion can cover the Fire-types that most of these Steel-types may lose to, such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Blaziken, Heatran, and Victini.
  • Fairy- and Psychic-types such as Mega Mawile, Mega Altaria, Mega Gardevoir, Hoopa-U, and Mew can cover the Fighting-types which resist Terrakion's main move, Continental Crush, and which most also take most of Terrakion's attacks or outspeed and KO. Examples of these Fighting-types include Mega Blaziken, Mega Lucario, Kommo-o, and Mega Lopunny. In return, Terrakion can beat some of the Steel-types that Fairy- and Psychic-types lose to most of the time, such as Aggron, Heatran, Genesect, Registeel, and Celesteela.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Substitute can be used over Swords Dance or Taunt on Terrakion's Rockium Z set, though only a niche pick to counter Crustle and Slaking.
  • A Choice Scarf set can be used to kill faster, yet less bulky Pokemon off guard such as Zeraora and Greninja, at the price of losing out on a powerful Z-Move and status moves.
  • A bulkier Terrakion spread with high Special Defense and HP and Rock Tomb allows Terrakion to beat Magnezone and Naganadel, but losing out on many matchups that fast Terrakion beats such as Mega Gardevoir, Tapu Lele, Victini, and Slaking.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Offense**: Terrakion doesn't stand a chance against bulky offense based Pokemon as they can easily tank hits and either retaliate right away or set-up and hit hard the next turn. Examples include Dragonite, Zygarde-C, Mega Metagross, Kommo-o, Landorus-T, Primarina, Mega Mawile, and Choice Specs Necrozma. [This is much too broad a category, evident by missing key pokemon including Magearna and Mega Gyarados]

**Sturdy Pokemon**: Most Pokemon with the ability Sturdy can take a hit from Terrakion and retaliate with a powerful move. Examples include Sawk, Donphan, Golem, Magnezone, Gigalith, and Crustle.

**Faster Hyper Offense**: Fast Pokemon such as Greninja, Zeraora, Mega Lopunny, and Deoxys-S can easily outspeed and OHKO Terrakion without time for retaliation.

  • Terrakion's high Attack stat along with an above-average speed tier and powerful moves make it an interesting anti-meta Pokemon in the 1v1 metagame, because of it being a strong and fast Rock-type Pokemon in the metagame.
  • Terrakion's unique Rock / Fighting typing is only owned by itself, making ans lets it beat interesting list of Pokemon that it's able to beat, such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Tapu Lele, Mega Gardevoir, Porygon-Z, Mega Tyranitar, and Aggron. you lose to mega aggron, it 2hkos you while you cannot 2hko back
  • Having access to status-moves utility such as Taunt, and Swords Dance, and Rock Tomb allows it to be able to set up and win against stall-based targets which would otherwise just win against Terrakion, such as Mew, Type: Null, and Registeel. all of these you beat with Taunt, don't need swords dance. Add Tapunium Tapu Fini
  • Terrakion's above-average speed allows it to outspeed common metagame threats such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Mew, Victini, Porygon-Z, and Kyurem. this is just a reitaration of the first point and second point
  • On the flip side, Terrakion's useless ability, Justified, is one of the hindrances that make Terrakion a flawed force, where a lot of common metagame threats in 1v1 such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Gyarados, and Dragonite all rely on their abilities. not worth mentioning, plenty of viable pokemon have completely useless abilities (magearna all ultra beasts)
  • Furthermore, Terrakion's frail bulk and only above-average speed make it susceptible to faster, more hyper offensive Pokemon. Examples include Timid this has over 50% usage, you don't need to clarify Greninja, Zeraora, Choice Scarf Haxorus, Mega Lopunny, Nagandel, Pheromosa, and offensive Deoxys-S.
  • Also, Terrakion struggles to beat sleep-based Pokemon that can outspeed it like Mega Gengar. thats just kinda like true for literally every pokemon tho, not unique to terrakion
  • Lastly, Terrakion's Attack stat is high but there are many bulky Pokemon in the metagame that can survive a hit from it. Examples include bulky Dragonite, Mega Slowbro, Primarina, and Mega Sableye. Swords Dance lets you beat non-taunt Mega Sableye (foul play won't kill you after two swords dance and you get a justified boost)

  • Close Combat is used to cover Normal-, Dark-, Rock-, and Steel-types which are neutral against or resist Stone Edge. Examples of these types include Porygon2, Porygon-Z, both Tyranitar and its Mega forme Mega Tyranitar this implies non-mega too, non-Choice Scarf Excadrill, and Aggron no.
  • Swords Dance is used to boost Terrakion's attack by 2 stages, allowing Terrakion to beat non-Waterium Tapu Fini, Registeel, and Type: Null. these are beaten by taunt more than sd
  • Include Rock Tomb

Set Details
========

  • 4 EVs are added to Special Defense for a better matchup against Genesect, as it will get a Download-boost in Attack instead of Special Attack.
  • 252 Attack EVs allow Terrakion to OHKO Tapu Lele and bulky Choice Specs Genesect most of the time.
  • 252 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature let Terrakion outspeed max speed + a boosting nature base-100 Speed Pokemon, such as Blacephalon, max speed Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Gardevoir, and Mew, and also outspeeding both Modest Greninja would remove this, less common than timid by far and Naganadel.
  • A speedier spread of Terrakion with the EVs of 16 HP / 244 Atk / 48 SpD / 200 Spe can still outspeed base 100s and Landorus while being able to take a hit from and OHKO Choice Scarf Genesect.
  • Rockium Z combined with Stone Edge gives Terrakion a high damage output especially when combined with Swords Dance to beat common metagame threats such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Tapu Lele, and Genesect.

Usage Tips
========

  • Against Mega Gyarados, use Continental Crush as Close Combat doesn't always have the chance to OHKO Gyarados in its Mega forme while Continental Crush can in its non-Mega forme. it can never KO mega gyara with close combat. -1 252 Atk Terrakion Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Gyarados-Mega: 242-288 (73.1 - 87%) -- guaranteed 2HKO you will never beat gyara unless misplay
  • Against almost all Fire-, Bug-, Flying-, and Ice-types, you should almost always use Continental Crush against them unless they have another type that resists Rock-, and is weak to Fighting-moves. Examples of these Pokemon that you should use Continental Crush against are Mega Charizard X and Y, Genesect, Mega Pinsir, and Kyurem. obvious
1) this only seems to apply to tapunium fini 2) you don't need to SD against type null, you just taunt -> cc -> cc Examples of where you should use Swords Dance turn 1 are against Tapu Fini and Type: Null. Notably, in Registeel's case though, you use Taunt turn 1 and Swords Dance turn 2 to block any Iron Defenses coming your way. only example i can think of where sd + taunt is useful is counter registeel. mention that somewhere
  • Also, in some scenarios, you'd want to use Taunt to block stall-Pokemon from setting up against Terrakion. Examples include Kee Berry Mew, Stall Necrozma, Type: Null, Registeel and Pyukumuku.
  • Against gimmick Pokemon, always use Taunt turn 1 to stop them, no matter what, examples include Aron, Riolu, and Sub-Endeavor Donphan. combine this to above
  • Against Mega Aggron, use Stone Edge turn 1 to not get bounced back heavily by Metal Burst. you lose

Team Options

  • Bulkier Pokemon that are slower but can take hits and dish out more damage over time make a good fit for Terrakion, as it struggles to deal with hyper offense Pokemon that bulky offense Pokemon can deal with such as Timid most Greninja, Zeraora all the pokemon u mention later zera can beat, Scarf Landorus-T, Mega Lopunny, and Timid most Naganadel. Examples of these bulkier Pokemon that would be good teammates for Terrakion include Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, Mega Metagross, and Meloetta, Terrakion in return can cover slow stall-oriented Pokemon that most bulky offense Pokemon lose to such as Tapunium Tapu Fini, non-Giga Drain Mega Venusaur, and Aggron. cannot

In return, Terrakion can cover the Fire-types that most of these Steel-types may lose to, such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Blaziken, nahhhhhhh yeah ik you ohko if you hit t1 but 70% run protect Heatran, and Victini.
Examples of these Fighting-types include Mega Blaziken, Mega Lucario this one has a great mu against most of fairy/psychics, would remove, Kommo-o, and Mega Lopunny. In return, Terrakion can beat some of the Steel-types that Fairy- and Psychic-types lose to most of the time, such as Aggron, Heatran, Genesect, Registeel, and Celesteela. cele yeets you with a z-flash

Other Options
=============

  • Substitute can be used over Swords Dance or Taunt on Terrakion's Rockium Z set, though only a niche pick to counter Crustle and Slaking.
  • include sub + eq for Aegislash and slaking
  • A Choice Scarf set can be used to kill faster, yet less bulky Pokemon off guard such as Zeraora Mega Lopunny zera tanks even with adamant with standard investment and Timid Greninja, at the price of losing out on a powerful Z-Move and status moves.
  • A bulkier Terrakion spread with either high Defense or Special Defense and HP and Rock Tomb allows Terrakion to beat threats like Choice Item Dragonite, Magnezone and Timid Naganadel, but losing out on many matchups that fast Terrakion beats such as Mega Gardevoir, Tapu Lele, Victini, and Slaking. you don't beat slaking unless sub or band

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Nukes** Pokemon like non-Choice Scarf Dragonite, Necrozma, and Zygarde can all take a hit from Terrakion and retaliate with either a Z-Move or a Choice-boosted attack OHKOing Terrakion.

**Bulky Set-Up** Magearna, Mega Gyarados, Kommo-o, and Mewnium Z Mew all can set up and OHKO Terrakion with their moves whilst taking Terrakion's Continental Crush or Close Combat.

**Sturdy Pokemon**: Most Pokemon with the ability Sturdy can take a hit from Terrakion and retaliate with a powerful move. Examples include Sawk, Donphan, Golem, Magnezone, Gigalith, and Crustle.

**Faster Hyper Offense**: Fast Pokemon such as Timid Greninja, Zeraora, Mega Lopunny, and offensive Deoxys-S can easily outspeed and OHKO Terrakion without time for retaliation.

  • 252 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature let Terrakion outspeed max speed + a boosting nature base-100 Speed Pokemon, such as Blacephalon, max speed Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Gardevoir, and Mew, and also outspeeding and KOing Naganadel. make this the first points
  • A speedier bulkier spread of Terrakion with the EVs of 16 HP / 244 Atk / 48 SpD / 200 Spe can still outspeed base 100s and Landorus while being able to take a hit from and OHKO Choice Scarf offensive Genesect, but bulky Genesect is the more common set.

  • Swords Dance has limited usability, because Terrakion is already powerful without setup, and is usually too frail to set up without repercussion. • Bulkier Pokemon that are slower but can take hits and dish out more damage over time make a good fit for Terrakion, as it struggles to deal with hyper offense Pokemon that bulky offense Pokemon can deal with such as most Greninja, Scarf Landorus-T, Mega Lopunny, and most Naganadel. changed my mind, Timid is the norm and saying 'most' is confusing Examples of these bulkier Pokemon that would be good teammates for Terrakion include bulky Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, Mega Metagross, and Meloetta, Terrakion in return can cover slow stall-oriented Pokemon that most bulky offense Pokemon lose to such as Tapunium Tapu Fini, and non-Giga Drain Mega Venusaur.
  • Steel-types such as Magearna, Magnezone, Celesteela, Ferrothorn, and Magneton are able to beat the common Fairy-types that Terrakion loses to such as Magearna, Clefable, Tapu Bulu, and Mega Mawile. In return, Terrakion can cover the Fire-types that most of these Steel-types may lose to, such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Heatran, and Victini.
Examples of these Fighting-types include Mega Blaziken, Kommo-o, and Mega Lopunny. In return, Terrakion can beat some of the Steel-types that Fairy- and Psychic-types lose to most of the time, such as, Heatran, Genesect, and Registeel.

  • A Choice Scarf set can be used to kill faster, yet less bulky Pokemon off guard such as Mega Lopunny and Greninja, at the price of losing out on a powerful Z-Move and status moves.
  • A bulkier Terrakion spread with either high Defense or Special Defense and HP and Rock Tomb allows Terrakion to beat threats like Choice Item Dragonite, Magnezone and Timid Naganadel, but losing out on many matchups that fast Terrakion beats such as Mega Gardevoir, Tapu Lele, and Victini.

Examples include Sawk, Donphan, Golem, Magnezone, Gigalith, and Crustle. not v reliable for them

**Faster Hyper Offense**: Fast Pokemon such as Greninja, Zeraora, Mega Lopunny, and offensive Deoxys-S can easily outspeed and OHKO Terrakion without time for retaliation.

[OVERVIEW]

Terrakion's high Attack stat along with an above-average speed tier and powerful moves make it an interesting anti-meta Pokemon in the 1v1 metagame, because of it being a strong and fast Rock-type Pokemon in the metagame. Its unique Rock / Fighting typing lets it beat an interesting list of Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Tapu Lele, Mega Gardevoir, Porygon-Z and Mega Tyranitar. Having access to utility such as Taunt, Swords Dance, and Rock Tomb allows it to be able to set up and win against stall-based targets which would otherwise just win against Terrakion, such as Mew, Type: Null, Tapunium Z Tapu Fini, stall Deoxys-S and Registeel. Furthermore Unfortunately, Terrakion's frail bulk and only above-average speed make it susceptible to faster, more hyper offensive Pokemon. Examples include Greninja, Zeraora, Choice Scarf Haxorus, Mega Lopunny, Nagandel, Pheromosa, and offensive Deoxys-S. Lastly, Terrakion's Attack stat is high but there are many bulky Pokemon in the metagame that can survive a hit from it. Examples include bulky Dragonite, Mega Slowbro, and Primarina.

Stone Edge is Terrakion's main move on this set, being able to turn into Continental Crush for high damage output. This move allows Terrakion to beat mainly both Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Gardevoir, offensive Genesect, Togekiss, and Victini. Taunt is used to block many set-ups or stall Pokemon from using their boosting-moves right away. Examples of what this can beat include Kee Berry Mew, Stored Power Necrozma, Aron, or Riolu. Close Combat is used to cover Normal-, Dark-, Rock-, and Steel-types which are neutral against or resist Stone Edge. Examples of these types include Porygon2, Porygon-Z, Mega Tyranitar, and non-Choice Scarf Excadrill. Swords Dance is used to boost Terrakion's attack by 2 stages, allowing Terrakion to beat Tapunium Z Tapu Fini. Rock Tomb has its niche in slowing down and beating Choice Scarf Dragonite, stall Deoxys-S, and Earthquake Crustle.

Against Deoxys-S, play like they're status-move based and use Rock Tomb until you outspeed it, and then use Taunt against Deoxys-S, and let them struggle to death.

Stone Edge is Terrakion's main move on this set, being able to turn and can be powered up into Continental Crush for high damage output. This move The Z-Move (i'm assuming you would want to use z and not regular sedge against all of these targets) allows Terrakion to beat mainly both Mega Charizard X, (AC) and Mega Charizard Y, Mega Gardevoir, offensive Genesect, Togekiss, and Victini. Taunt is used to block many set-ups or setup and stall (technically, don't stall mons fall under setup mons?) Pokemon from using their boosting (RH)moves right away. Examples of what this move can allows Terrakion to beat include Kee Berry Mew, Stored Power Necrozma, Aron, or and Riolu. Usage Tips

The combination of both Taunt and Swords Dance is useful for Counter Registeel; (semicolon) what you'd want to do in that situation is against said foe, use Taunt turn one and then set up with Swords Dance. This avoids lets Terrakion avoid being knocked out with KOed by Counter from Registeel; however, against non-Counter Registeel, either Swords Dance of or Taunt will work against it (on turn one or turn two?). Examples include Kee Berry Mew, stall Necrozma, Type: Null, Pyukumuku, Aron, and Riolu. Most of the time, you'd you will want to use Continental Crush in the matchup other than using any of your status moves, immediately due to the huge damage outburst OHKOing most of its Terrakion's winning matchups with or without the super effective damage. There are inverse particular situations, though, where you'd you will want to use a tactical move (RC) status moves like Taunt or Swords Dance, or an attacking move like Rock Tomb like Taunt, Swords Dance, or Rock Tomb to set up on foes (RC) like against Mew, gimmick Pokemon, Tapunium Z Tapu Fini, Choice Scarf Dragonite, and Crustle. Against Meloetta, Continental Crush is a roll as to whether it will OHKO it or not, so it's best to use Continental Crush turn one to hope for the a high roll or a critical hit chance. Against Mega Sableye, Mega Venusaur, or and Deoxys-S, play like they don't have the status (giga drain isn't a status move) moves Will-O-Wisp, Giga Drain, or Taunt; (semicolon) because you'll need to use Swords Dance to win on the first turn to win in Mega Sableye's case and use Taunt to win in the latter's Mega Venusaur's case. Against Deoxys-S, play like they're it's status (RH)move-(AH)based (optional: replace with "not offensive") and use Rock Tomb until you Terrakion outspeeds it, and then use Taunt against Deoxys-S, and let them struggle to death (unnecessary + "death" is a banned word).

Bulkier Pokemon that are slower but can take hits and dish out more damage over time make a good fits for with Terrakion, as it struggles to they can (swapped w/ end of sentence in order to use "they" here) deal with hyper offensive (consistency) Pokemon that bulky offense Pokemon can deal with (moved for ambiguity; these examples could refer to the bulky mons) such as Greninja, Choice Scarf Landorus-T, Mega Lopunny, and Naganadel that Terrakion struggles with. Examples of these bulkier Pokemon that would be good teammates for Terrakion include bulky Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, Mega Metagross, and Meloetta; (semicolon) Terrakion, (AC) in return, (AC) can cover slow stall-oriented Pokemon that most bulky offensive Pokemon lose to such as Tapunium Tapu Fini (RC) and non-Giga Drain Mega Venusaur. Steel-types such as Magearna, Magnezone, Celesteela, Ferrothorn, and Magneton are able to beat the common Fairy-types that Terrakion loses to such as Magearna, Clefable, Tapu Bulu, and Mega Mawile. In return, Terrakion can cover the Fire-types that most of these Steel-types may lose to, such as Mega Charizard X, (AC) and Mega Charizard Y, Heatran, and Victini. Fairy- and Psychic-types such as Mega Mawile, Mega Altaria, Mega Gardevoir, Hoopa-U, and Mew can cover the Fighting-types which resist Terrakion's main move, Continental Crush, and which most also that can (unnecessary; falls under "taking Terrakion's attacks") take most of Terrakion's attacks or outspeed and KO it, (AC) Examples of these Fighting-types include including Mega Blaziken, Kommo-o, and Mega Lopunny. In return, Terrakion can beat some of the Steel-types that Fairy- and Psychic-types lose to most of the time, such as Heatran, Genesect, and Registeel.

Substitute can be used over Swords Dance or Taunt on Terrakion's Rockium Z set, though only a niche pick (moved; negative stuff ideally goes last) to beat Slaking or and force 50/50s with Pokemon like Mega Blaziken, (AC) though it's a niche pick. A standard Terrakion set with Substitute and Earthquake can also be utilized mostly to reliably beat Aegislash. A Choice Scarf set can be used to kill catch faster, yet less bulky Pokemon off guard such as Mega Lopunny and Greninja off guard (RC) at the price of losing out on a powerful Z-Move and status moves. A bulkier Terrakion EV spread with either high Defense or high Special Defense and HP investment and used with Rock Tomb allows Terrakion to beat threats like Choice item Dragonite, Magnezone, (AC) and Timid Naganadel, but losing it loses out on many matchups that fast Terrakion beats such as Mega Gardevoir, Tapu Lele, and Victini.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Water- and Ground-types**: Most Water- and Ground-types, (AC) such as Mega Gyarados, Primarina, Greninja, Garchomp, Zygarde, and Landorus-T, (AC) (moved to avoid ambiguity) can withstand your Terrakion's STAB attacks and KO back, (repetition) or outright outspeed it, (AC) and can KO you it with their respective Water- or Ground-moves STAB moves, such as Mega Gyarados, Primarina, Greninja, Garchomp, Zygarde, and Landorus-T.

**Steel-(AH)types**: Most Steel-types in the metagame either happen to have a typing that either neutralizes Close Combat's super effectiveness or are just outright bulky enough to live it and KO you Terrakion, such as Mega Metagross, Magearna, Mega Scizor, Jirachi, and Celesteela. (does aegi warrant a mention?) (also, you didn't mention anything that falls under the second category, ie. cc hits it super effectively but it's able to live because of its bulk)

**Bulky Nukes**: (colon) Pokemon like non-Choice Scarf Dragonite, Kommo-o, Mewnium Z Mew, and Choice Specs Necrozma can all take a hit from Terrakion and retaliate with either a Z-Move or a Choice-boosted Choice item-boosted attack, (AC) OHKOing Terrakion.

**Bulky Set-Up Setup Pokemon**: (colon) Z-Celebrate Meloetta, Mega Altaria, and Clefable all can set up and OHKO Terrakion with their moves whilst while taking Terrakion's Continental Crush or Close Combat.

**Sturdy Pokemon**: Most Pokemon with the ability Sturdy can take a hit from Terrakion and retaliate with a powerful move. Examples include Sawk, Donphan, Golem, Magnezone, and Gigalith.

**Faster Hyper Offensive Pokemon**: Fast Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Haxorus, Hoopa-U, Zeraora, Mega Lopunny, and offensive Deoxys-S can easily outspeed and OHKO Terrakion without giving it time for retaliation.

[OVERVIEW]

Terrakion's high Attack stat along with an above-average Speed tier, (AC) and powerful moves, (AC) and Rock typing (or leave out entirely if it's redundant here? trying to fold that final clause into here) makes it an interesting anti-metagame Pokemon in the 1v1 metagame, because of it being a strong and fast Rock-type Pokemon in the metagame. Its unique Rock / Fighting typing lets it beat an interesting list of Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Tapu Lele, Mega Gardevoir, Porygon-Z and Mega Tyranitar. Furthermore, Having access to utility such as Taunt, Swords Dance, and Rock Tomb allows it to be able to set up and win against stall-based targets which that would otherwise just win against Terrakion it, such as Mew, Type: Null, Tapunium Z Tapu Fini, stall Deoxys-S, (AC) and Registeel. Unfortunately, Terrakion's frail poor bulk and only above-average Speed make it susceptible to faster, more hyper offensive Pokemon. Examples include Greninja, Zeraora, Choice Scarf Haxorus, Mega Lopunny, Nagandel, Pheromosa, and offensive Deoxys-S. Lastly, Terrakion's Attack stat is high, (AC) but there are many bulky Pokemon in the metagame that can survive a hit from it. Examples include bulky Dragonite, Mega Slowbro, and Primarina.

Moves

Stone Edge is Terrakion's main move on this set, being able to turn into Continental Crush for high damage output, (comma) This move which allows Terrakion to beat mainly both Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Gardevoir, offensive Genesect, Togekiss, and Victini. Taunt is used to block many set-ups setup or stall Pokemon, such as Kee Berry Mew, Stored Power Necrozma, Aron, and Riolu, from using their boosting moves (RH) right away. Examples of what this can beat include Kee Berry Mew, Stored Power Necrozma, Aron, or Riolu. Close Combat is used to cover Normal-, Dark-, Rock-, and Steel-types which that are neutral against or resist Stone Edge. Examples of these types include Porygon2, Porygon-Z, Mega Tyranitar, and non-Choice Scarf Excadrill. Swords Dance is used to boost Terrakion's attack by 2 stages, allowing allows Terrakion to beat Tapunium Z Tapu Fini. Alternatively, Rock Tomb has its niche in slowing down and beating Choice Scarf Dragonite, stall Deoxys-S, and Earthquake Crustle.

252 Attack EVs allow Terrakion to OHKO Tapu Lele and bulky Choice Specs Genesect most of the time. 252 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature let Terrakion outspeed maximum Speed + a boosting nature (implied) base 100 (RH) Speed Pokemon (RC) and above such as Blacephalon, max speed Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Gardevoir, and Mew, and also as well as outspeeding and KOing Modest Naganadel. 4 EVs are added to Special Defense for a better matchup against Choice Scarf non-Flash Cannon Genesect, as it will get a Download boost (RH) in Attack instead of Special Attack. Rockium Z combined with Stone Edge gives Terrakion a high damage output to beat common metagame threats such as Mega Charizard X and Y, and non-bulky Tapu Lele, and Genesect.

A bulkier EV spread of Terrakion with the EVs of 16 HP / 244 Atk / 48 SpD / 200 Spe can still allows Terrakion to outspeed base 100s and Landorus while being able to take a hit from and OHKO Choice Scarf offensive Genesect, but bulky Genesect is the more common set.

Usage Tips

The combination of both Taunt and Swords Dance is useful for Counter Registeel; (SC) what you'd want to do in that situation is use Taunt turn one, (AC) and then set up with Swords Dance. This avoids being knocked out with Counter from Registeel; However, against non-Counter Registeel, either Swords Dance of Taunt will work against it. Against Tapunium Z Tapu Fini, you should use Swords Dance turn one, (AC) since it can't KO you Terrakion, and then use Continental Crush turn two, instead of using Taunt. Also, in some scenarios situation, you'd want to use Taunt to block stall Pokemon (RH) or gimmicks from setting up against Terrakion. Examples include Kee Berry Mew, Stall Necrozma, Type: Null, Pyukumuku, Aron, and Riolu. Most of the time, you'd want to use Continental Crush in the matchup other rather than using any of your Terrakion's status moves, due to the huge damage outburst KOing most of its winning matchups with or without the super effective damage. These Pokemon include Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Gardevoir, and Victini. There are inverse particular inverse situations, though, where you'd want to use a tactical move, a status moves move like Taunt or Swords Dance, or an attacking move like Rock Tomb to set up on foes, like against Mew, gimmick Pokemon, Tapunium Z Tapu Fini, Choice Scarf Dragonite, and Crustle. Against Meloetta, Continental Crush is a roll to whether it will KO it or not, so it's best to use Continental Crush turn one to hope for the high roll or critical hit chance. Against Mega Sableye, Mega Venusaur, or Deoxys-S, play like they don't have the status moves Will-O-Wisp, Giga Drain, or Taunt, because you'll need to use Swords Dance to win on the first turn in Mega Sableye's case and Taunt to win in the latter's case. Against Deoxys-S, play like they're status-move based, (AC) and use using Rock Tomb until you outspeed Terrakion outspeeds it, and then use using Taunt against Deoxys-S, and let them letting it struggle to death.
