Hi all,
Yesterday I created a team revolved around a synergy of Tapu Fini, Heatran, and Tangrowth. Seeing Tapu Fini dominate the metagame really made me want to try it out, and in combination with a Wish-passing user, it's incredibly hard to kill.
Dead Narwhal (Tapu Fini) @ Leftovers
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 192 Def / 16 SpD / 52 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Moonblast
- Haze
- Defog
Here it is, Tapu Fini. After finding out it gets access to a combination of Haze and Defog its use for me was inevitable. Its main purpose is to remove hazards, phaze, and annoy things with Scald and Moonblast's solid thirty per cent additional effects. Seeing that it had a glaring lack of recovery, I thought it would make excellent progress with a reliable Wishpasser, and later on I added one.
Aeroplane Head (Heatran) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Taunt
- Toxic
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
Heatran synergises, in my opinion, excellently with Tapu Fini, with Tapu Fini taking Fighting-type moves and being a last resort switch-in to Ground types, with Heatran providing immunities to Poison-types and a resistance to Grass. This Heatran has Taunt in order to stop things like Chansey, Toxic to spread status, Lava Plume for some powerful STAB and chance to burn, and Stealth Rock for some hazards.
mums spaghetti (Tangrowth) (F) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Power Whip
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Tangrowth, as Smogon itself says, is a "stellar, albeit uncommon pivot in OU". With Tapu Fini and Heatran it can provide resistances to Ground, hit Electric-types and Water-types, and has excellent stats as a mixed wall. I chose Power Whip over Giga Drain simply because the latter was mostly never regaining me that much health, and Regenerator is solid enough recovery in my opinion. The extra power helps in a few places, too, and my team doesn't have many physical threats, either. Knock Off is for basic item removal, Earthquake is for hitting Electric-types and the occasional Poison-type on the switch, and HP Ice is for Landorus, Garchomp, Gliscor and co.
Lame Kirby (Clefable) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Heal Bell
- Wish
- Protect
Clefable is that Wish passer that helps keep Heatran, Tapu Fini and Garchomp, which appears later down my list, alive. Wishpassing in my opinion is essential for survival. This specific Clefable sports both that and Heal Bell, allowing it to function as a solid support Pokemon. I ran Magic Guard over Unaware because I find myself switching into hazards and whatnot more often than I do set-up Pokemon, and even then I have Phazers and Revenge-killers.
Anal Beads (Thundurus-Therian) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Focus Blast
- Volt Switch
Thundurus-Therian is, I think, a solid revenge killer with the Choice Scarf. Access to Volt Switch and coverage like HP Ice and Focus Blast make him excellent at dishing out damage whilst keeping speed control. Thunderbolt is for basic and powerful STAB, HP Ice for the aforementioned threats, Focus Blast for Rock, Ground, Steel and Ice types (and whatnot), and Volt Switch is for pivoting and momentum.
Sharkadactyl (Garchomp-Mega) @ Garchompite
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Blast
Although highly underrated, Mega Garchomp still has a massive Attack stat and awesome sweeping capabilities. Here for exactly that, he has Swords Dance as his set-up move, Earthquake for STAB, Dragon Claw for STAB, and Fire Blast for Ferrothorn, Scizor, Kartana, etc. On top of this, Wish allows him to become even more deadly than before, staying alive on the battlefield for much longer, which is vital for any Pokemon in the competitive scene.
