This is my second RMT and my first UU one. I've always enjoyed UU for its less weather heavy environment compared to OU, which is often a breath of fresh air. I made this team actually to try and sweep with one of my favorites... the mighty Kingdra! :D With this I'll move into my team building process...
Teambuilding
1. So I started out with Kingdra, a pokemon that I really wanted to use and sweep with (not that it's hard, I just like the poke).
2. Next I added HP ice bronzong to help wall flygons that could revenge kill kindra, as well as get up rocks.
3. I then decided to use Zapdos, a poke that would remove some of the common Kingdra counters such as empoleon (and other bulky waters) and bronzong.
4. I decided to add a co-sweeper/wall breaker in Rhyperior (great for porygon2, umbreon, etc.).
5. I decided to rely on two walls (not counting bronzong) and I wanted them to resist the fire powerhouses in UU. I easily decided Blastiose because of it's awesome move pool and great water typing. I then decided Def. Arcanine would go great with it.
6. ^ (Arcanine)
This team has not gone through any full pokemon changes yet as it is somewhat early in development. So far this team has one most of it's games. Let's move on to the sets...
In detail...
Bronzong @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 58 SDef / 252 HP / 200 Def
Sassy Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Toxic
I found Bronzong amazing in OU, so in UU... Wow! I guess it doesn't have as many dragons to wall but I feel it's a great physical or special wall, so it's set is very mixed and can take hit's excellently from both sides of the spectrum. Again, this was put in to kill flygon, but it's actually able to do very good damage to just about anything. EQ and HP ice give great coverage together and stealth rocks can make or break a game. Bronzong also does a great job of switching in on toxic from a wall and being able to then lay a toxic on them.
Kingdra @ Leftovers
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 218 Spd / 40 HP
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Waterfall
Kingdra was what this team was built around, but I didn't have a set quite figured out. I wanted a sweeper so any Def. variant (I've run it before :D) went out the window. After some pondering I decided I wanted to run a sub Ddance set. I can avoid statuses, scout, and I feel overall set up better with a sub set. This is one thing that may be changed though and is up to YOU to decide :) . All the other moves are standard and obvious, just it's stabs outrage and waterfall.
Rhyperior @ Life Orb
Trait: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 6 Def
Adamant Nature
- Rock Polish
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Superpower
Rhyperior is my back up sweeper. If a team doesn't look good to be swept by Kingdra, Rhyperior will often do a good job. He often functions as a great wall breaker when I need empoleon, umbreon, or porygon2 (all very bulky hard to kill walls) dead. One reason he is so great with Kindra is becuase of the awesome dragon + earth coverage. Another is while rhyperior hates suicune, Kingdra loves to set up on it. The moveset is fairly obvious except for superpower, which was chosen over fire punch for it's wall smashing capabilities. If Kingdra doesn't finish you, Rhyperior sure will >:D
Zapdos @ Life Orb / Leftovers / Scarf
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 6 Def
Timid Nature
- Heat Wave
- Volt Switch / T-bolt
- Hidden Power [Grass] / HP Ice
- Roost / Volt Switch / T-bolt
Here's Zapdos, my bulky water counter. Aside from being a complete monster in UU who arguably is just as good in OU, Zapdos plays the key role of taking out counters to my Kingdra (and Rhyperior) as well. Though I like using the poke Zapdos (I'm still willing to change it) this is probably my biggest poke I need help with. The set I'm currently using is the first option for everything. There are many changes that could be made to this Zapdos and I'm trying to decide which set works best with this team. Scarf could benefit (though least likely option) because I currently have no scarfer on the team and zapdos is the fastest member. Life orb allows him to hit harder but instead of recovery causes damage. Leftovers would allow it to take hits a bit better and stay alive longer. Choices, Choices. In the moves department, volt switch or T-bolt? Should I run roost (it's helped a lot so far)? My hidden power is troublesome too. I already have HP Ice on the team but many battles it seems it would come in handy to have it on a faster member. I do like hp grass for things like swampert though. Any advice for this set would be greatly GREATLY appreciated.
Blastoise @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 6 Def
Calm Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Yawn
- Scald
- Toxic
This is probably my favorite Blastoise set. Idk if it's standard, because I very rarely will look up sets, but it definitely should be. It deals with spin blockers like a BOSS yawning on their switch in, and then spinning on their switch out. Along with that it can hash out burn (w/scald) and toxic as well. This isn't even mentioning that it's great against Chandelure, one of the most common UU spin blockers. Water is one of the best defensive typings (spc and phy) in my opinion and Blastiose puts it to very good use, especially against the fire strong UU environment. Cores excellently with Arcanine.
Arcanine @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 6 SDef
Bold Nature
- Morning Sun
- Toxic
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Ground]
Arcanine is great against both Darmanitan and Victini as well as other UU threats (shaymin, heracross), making it a great wall. HP ground is there to hit fire types, Fire blast for powerful stab, morning sun recovery, and toxic is their for status. Hidden power could be changed as well as toxic to Wil-O. E-speed may be added for needed priority as well... Arcanine also cores greatly with blastoise for a fire water core which I feel has it's weaknesses covered by the rest of the team.
Closing Comments
If you're still wondering about the name it's because of my two sweepers somewhat similar tails with a ball on the end (Idk I found them interesting :P). I also think it's a funny name considering both pokemon hold such power while the move (tail whip) is something that would never be used seriously in competitive play. Now that that's over with... This team is in it's pretty early stages and if you'd like to give it a try I'll post an importable version if someone tells my how to do the whole "spoilers" thing. ANY feedback positive or negative would be greatly appreciated by me.
