tacticat (currently #5)

hello! to celebrate six years on smogon i'm going to be posting a joke team that actually takes lives (or maybe it's just the ru ladder who knows). i was inspired by esteemed user aurora to make this team, as she was also laddering with a joke team and i wanted to join in on the fun. it's mostly just some really wacky sets thrown together, but they seem to have a surprising amount of synergy! it's currently #5 on the ladder, but i'm gonna stop using it now to give other players a chance to win.

i picked out some fun replays. a couple of these are just me being really lucky, but i decided to include them because of hilarious hax like double freeze against some poor sap. i know the list of replays looks daunting, but i promise they're highly entertaining and you can get a good idea of the team from them. the team portrayed here isn't what you see in all the replays, as i edited it quite a lot during the laddering. the core mons stay the same though

Delibird @ Focus Sash
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Destiny Bond
- Freeze-Dry

what better way to lead off a troll team than one of the most forgettable mons there is? a lot of people don't know what to expect when they see this in team preview, but it's an amazing suicide lead. spikes are easy to set up and get the chip damage that my mons obv really like, as none of them are exceptionally hard hitting. rapid spin is beautiful on a lead as it breaks other sashes and prevents them going up on my side, while freeze dry offers really good neutral coverage (and a super effective hit against defoggers), as well as a chance to freeze hehe. destiny bond is hilariouswhen you get knocked down to sash, as you can then often out-psyche your opponent if he chooses not to attack and get off another layer of spikes or a freeze dry.

Amoonguss @ Choice Specs
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 224 HP / 252 SpA / 32 Spe
Modest Nature
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Spore

this replaced toxic orb jolteon, who while cool, was a bit inefficient. this completely patches up my weaknesses to tangrowth, virizion and rotom-c, while also forming a regenerator core with alomomola and absorbing toxic spikes. being able to put stuff to sleep is just a bonus, and it hits surprisingly hard as well. might test toxic plate

594.png

Alomomola @ Choice Band
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Atk / 224 SpD / 32 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Knock Off
- Healing Wish
- Aqua Jet

this set is fucking hilarious. i remember molk used it against me last gen in some fake stall team, and it just got better now with knock off. seriously knock off just annihilates jellicent, and there's a replay when it 2HKOs eviolite roselia. waterfall is hilariously strong, easily ohkoing tank rhyperior. aqua jet snipes off stuff like delphox after SR and a spike, and is just strong against stuff like hitmonlee. not had to use healing wish yet, but it's obviously a superb move for any team to have as backup.

208.png

Steelix @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 232 HP / 252 SpA / 24 Spe
Modest Nature
- Earth Power
- Flash Cannon
- Dark Pulse
- Stealth Rock

this is honestly just here because i needed stealth rock, something for electric types, and i fondly remembered celevers legendary specs steelix in some nbt thread last gen. it obviously still doesnt hit very hard, but can receive a baton pass from togetic on a lot of moves aimed at it, and is just really fun to use, which this team is really all about. also dgaf about people trying to burn it. dark pulse is because i couldnt think of another special move he get that benefits from sheer force, and i guess it hits stuff like sigilyph harder than flash cannon. also has the obvious advantage against opposing mega steelix which is funny as hell

176.png

Togetic @ Eviolite
Ability: Super Luck
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Dazzling Gleam
- Baton Pass
- Nasty Plot
- Roost

i initially had this as some lame nasty plot water pulse set with seren grace, but realized that by changing it to baton pass it supports nearly the entire team with the exception of mola. yes it means i now have a standard set, sue me. it's my main answer to fighting types that my team struggles with a bit, and is just REALLY fucking tanky. love this mon.

tacticat (Liepard) @ Black Glasses
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Copycat
- Dark Pulse
- Encore

TACTICAT. sweeps stupidly easily in this meta, cobalion leaving was an absolute godsend. stops bulky shit like CM sub meloetta from setting up on me, and just uses them to set up a counter sweep. sometimes has a bit of trouble setting up nasty plot in some situations, and that's where togetic comes in. copycat gives dark pulse priority. i chose timid over modest because being able to outspeed delphox is pretty crucial. props to molk who came up with this set in early xy ou or something, idk he just begged me to credit him. loser

THREATLIST
what threats

Jellicent: lured and KOed by mola, liepard sets up, jolteon KOs
Scrafty: togetic walls and kills. problematic otherwise but i preserve toge
Flygon: Mola handles it well, togetic KOs, delibird freeze dries, liepard kills at +2
Glalie: Mola 2HKOs, steelix smacks it around with flash cannon, jolteon and liepard outspeed and hurt it
Steelix: my steelix is faster and hits it harder, mola beats it, liepard can kill with enough boosts. no recovery and worn down by spikes
Tyrantrum: massacred by steelix, mola can take a hit and knock it off to make it easier to deal with, liepard really hurts it. outsped and badly hurt by delibird
Virizion: pretty big threat; togetic walls a couple turns and can BP to jolteon who kills with hp flying/kill it with dazzling gleam
Alomomola: encored and set up on by liepard, jolteon kills it, togetic uses it as setup bait, steelix can hurt it a bit, delibird can freeze dry i guess
Aromatisse: togetic sets up on it, steelix massacres it, its worn down by hazards quite well
Durant: Jolteon outspeeds and KOs, Steelix OHKOs and survives any hit, mola can take some hits and hit it hard, liepard kills if using copycat DP
Emboar: dangerous. wont sweep me but deals a lot of damage before going down. mola does well against it though
Houndoom: lol CB mola counters this thing, aqua jet is a ohko after LO or a spike.
Rhyperior: Mola OHKOs (i love saying this) steelix lives an eq and deals big damage. still kinda threatening though
Sigilyph: liepard and jolteon outspeed and ko. just not a threat
Tangrowth: threatening mon. steelix can survive anything except LO leaf storm/focus blast and hit it hard, toetic can set up on it if sleep clause is broken, both my sweepers deal terrible damage at +2
Dugtrio: can trap jolteon, gotta be careful. toge sets up, mola walls and ohkos with aqua jet, liepard ohkos if using copycat. steelix is crippled by eq but wins 1o1
Escavalier: dangerous mon. steelix wins 1o1, so does mola, rest doesnt handle it very well
Fletchinder: steelix deals a lot with dark pulse lol. mola wrecks it, jolteon wrecks it, liepard wrecks if copycat
Hitmonlee: Togetic can wall and set up on it, mola beats it 1o1. otherwise can be quite a threat
Jolteon: gotta depend on steelix and copycat dark pulse
Rotom-C: really annoying mon. nothing can deal with it particularly well
Seismitoad: OHKOd by delibird, togetic can set up on it i guess? not seen it
Sneasel: mola beats it, steelix beats it, jolteon outspeeds and deals a lot of damage
Togetic: Steelix cracks this egg with flash cannon, my togetic can set up, jolteon has tbolt

this was just S and A ranks, rest can be played around

252+ Atk Choice Band Alomomola Waterfall vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 354-423 (81.7 - 97.6%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

also because this team runs spikes

252+ Atk Choice Band Alomomola Waterfall vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 354-423 (81.7 - 97.6%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after 1 layer of Spikes

and together

252+ Atk Choice Band Alomomola Waterfall vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 354-423 (81.7 - 97.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes

always factor in hazards, especially on HO teams

ok people sweep has himself made a legendary omanyte joke team that uses specs amoonguss. i tested it on my team over jolteon and it was a stroke of genius on his part. it fixed basically all issues with my team (virizion, rotom-c, tangrowth) while still being really trolly, especially with spore. might test toxic plate too. so yeah as of now jolteon -> amoonguss

team is actually legit now lol
