[OVERVIEW]

An excellent typing, a plethora of utility moves such as Toxic, Yawn, and Stealth Rock, and good matchups against the tier's entry hazard removers like Excadrill, Tentacruel, and Mandibuzz make Swampert a solid hazard setter. Good matchups against top threats like Jirachi, Krookodile, and Lycanroc-D contribute to Swampert's great defensive utility. Flip Turn also lets it be a slow pivot, limiting its passivity, making progress against walls such as Chansey, and bringing in slower teammates like Conkeldurr to wallbreak. However, many of the tier's threats hinder Swampert. Grass-types like Tangrowth and Zarude threaten to OHKO it, while powerful wallbreakers like Conkeldurr and Azumarill take advantage of its lack of reliable recovery to break through it. Swampert is also very vulnerable to status and Knock Off, especially from Pokemon it should check like Excadrill and Nihilego, which make it much less effective as a tank. Swampert also competes for a team slot with fellow hazard setter Ground-types Excadrill and Krookodile, which keep up offensive pressure more consistently.

[SET COMMENTS]

Earthquake deals massive damage to entry hazard removers like Excadrill and Tentacruel. Flip Turn makes progress against foes like Zarude and Salamence while also bringing in teammates like Conkeldurr and Azumarill safely. Toxic cripples walls such as Tangrowth that force out Swampert. Yawn instead can shut down offensive powerhouses that may threaten Swampert's teammates and force switches, allowing Swampert to generate even more momentum. 112 Special Defense EVs allow Swampert to tank powerful special hits from foes like Thundurus-T and Salamence, while 144 Defense EVs prevent Swampert from getting 2HKOed by Excadrill and Zygarde-10%. A Sassy nature is used so that Swampert can underspeed defensive Celesteela.

Slow wallbreakers, such as Conkeldurr and Mamoswine, greatly appreciate Yawn crippling enemies and Flip Turn giving them safe entry against Pokemon like Hydreigon and Amoonguss to wallbreak. Offensive pivots such as Thundurus-T, Azelf, and Zarude form VoltTurn cores with Swampert while also overwhelming foes that Swampert can't handle, such as Roserade and Hydreigon. Tapu Bulu gives Swampert much-appreciated additional recovery through Grassy Terrain. In turn, Swampert can help deal with Poison-types such as Nidoking, Nihilego, and Tentacruel, which threaten Tapu Bulu. Wish recovery from clerics such as Umbreon and Jirachi is also great for its longevity. Swampert greatly appreciates Pokemon like Skarmory and Moltres that can check the Grass-types that it fears so much. The former also forms an entry hazard stacking core with Swampert, while the latter forms a VoltTurn core with it. Entry hazard removers like Tentacruel, Excadrill, and Mandibuzz stop Spikes from punishing Swampert's longevity.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A Choice Band set with Liquidation, Earthquake, Ice Punch, and Flip Turn takes advantage of Swampert's solid Attack while also dealing with the Dragon- and Grass-types of the tier more effectively. Ice Beam can be used on the defensive set for a similar purpose, but this forces Swampert to sacrifice one of its utility moves. Scald can potentially burn foes like Skarmory that Swampert otherwise struggles against, but it is hard to slot into Swampert's moveset over its other utility moves. High Horsepower is a good alternative to Earthquake if Swampert is being run alongside Tapu Bulu, since Grassy Surge weakens Earthquake, but is an inferior pick otherwise. A physically defensive EV spread with a Relaxed nature allows Swampert to tank powerful physical attacks from foes like Mamoswine, Lycanroc-D, and Excadrill, but it makes Swampert more vulnerable to powerful special attackers like Thundurus and Azelf.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types and Grass-type Coverage**: Pokemon such as Amoonguss, Zarude, Tangrowth, and Tapu Bulu can easily scare Swampert out with their 4x super effective STAB moves, though the latter two do not like the potential of being inflicted by Toxic. Swampert similarly fears Grass-type coverage, leaving it unable to deal with Gyarados's Power Whip and properly check Thundurus-T until it scouts for Grass Knot.

**Dragon-types**: Salamence and Hydreigon both either resist or are immune to Swampert's STAB moves and can force it out, though Swampert can cripple these Pokemon with Toxic.

**Toxic**: Pokemon like Excadrill and Rotom-H that struggle to deal with Swampert otherwise can use Toxic to cripple it, drastically worsening its longevity.

**Powerful Wallbreakers**: Thanks to Swampert's lack of reliable recovery, Pokemon like Conkeldurr, Choice Specs Primarina, and Azumarill can overwhelm it and take it out easily.

[OVERVIEW]

  • An excellent Water/Ground typing, access to a plethora of utility moves such as Toxic, Yawn, and Stealth Rock, and good matchups against the tier's other hazard setters like Excadrill and Nidoqueen make Swampert a solid choice for a hazard setter. this should rather be about its fair matchup against entry hazard removers like excadrill and mandibuzz instead, beating other entry hazard setters isn't relevant. I would still say it can check threats like excadrill, jirachi, krook, and celesteela though.
  • Access to Flip Turn also allows Swampert to act as a slow pivot, letting it make progress against walls such as Chansey and Tangrowth (you do like 5 to tang and get chipped with rocky helmet) while bringing in slower, frailer teammates like Conkeldurr. its important to note it limits its passivity and allows it to fit on offensive teams, giving it a niche over most rockers since rocks + momentum is great.
  • However, Swampert finds itself being stonewalled by a large number of the tier's threats, such as Tangrowth and Celesteela, meaning that is gets forced out often. you literally beat celesteela since flip turn chips it and you bring a strong ass threat in, talk about extreme vulnerability to grass-types and powerful wallbreakers here instead.
  • talk about lack of reliable recovery and status vulnerability
  • Swampert also finds itself competing for a slot on teams with fellow hazard setter Ground-types Excadrill and Krookodile, which also offer more role compression than Swampert. The former also acts a hazard remover with Rapid Spin, while the latter can use Knock Off to cripple foes that Swampert struggles with.

Paragraph 1
  • Earthquake is Swampert's main damaging move, dealing massive damage to other hazard setters like Excadrill and Nidoqueen and letting it get hazards up without much trouble. once again reword to it dealing lots of damage to entry hazard removers like excadrill and tentacruel, letting it act as a decent stealth rock setter. add how it also hurts threats like aegislash
  • Flip Turn lets Swampert make progress against foes like Thundurus-T Tangrowth and Salamence that force it out while also allowing it to act as a slow pivot to bring in teammates like Conkeldurr and Diggersby safely.
  • Toxic can be used to cripple walls such as Tangrowth that force out Swampert. Yawn can be used for similar reasons as well as being able to shut down offensive powerhouses that may threaten Swampert's teammates, but since it take a turn for the opponent to be put to sleep, it is much more risky. yawn is actually better due to the switches it forces, allowing swampert to get free momentum. reword to describe it better
  • Stealth Rock allows Swampert to cause chip damage to the opposing team, allowing teammates like Heracross and Tapu Bulu to take out opponents more easily.
  • Leftovers gives Swampert a method of recovery, which it lacks otherwise. general info that doesn't need to be stated
  • Damp makes Swampert immune to Explosion from suicide lead Regieleki, allowing Swampert to completely wall it.
  • A physically defensive EV spread with a Relaxed nature allows Swampert to check powerful physical attackers like Mamoswine, Lycanroc-D, and Excadrill while giving it a slow Flip Turn to underspeed threats like Aegislash, Primarina, and defensive Celesteela. tank powerful physical attacks. For example, it turns Mamoswine's Earthquake from a 2HKO to a 3HKO.

Paragraph 2
  • Tapu Bulu makes an excellent partner for Swampert, as its Grassy Terrain gives Swampert additional recovery, which increases its longevity even further. In turn, Swampert can help deal with Poison-types such as Nidoking, non-Grass Knot Nihilego, and Tentacruel that threaten Tapu Bulu.
  • Slow, frail wallbreakers, such as Conkeldurr, Mamoswine, and Diggersby greatly appreciate having Swampert as a teammate, as the combination of Yawn to cripple enemies and Flip Turn to pivot out allows them to be brought in safely against Pokemon that may otherwise knock them out. (Pokemon that force them out like?)
  • Offensive pivots such as Thundurus-T, Mienshao, and Zarude form VoltTurn cores with Swampert to help bring each other and their teammates onto the field while also being able to deal with foes that Swampert can't handle, such as Celesteela and Hydreigon.
  • mention clerics like syleveon and jirachi to provide wish support
  • checks to Grass-types like skarmory and moltres should be brought up. say how the former also lets it form an entry hazard stacking core while the latter helps make a momentum core

  • A Choice Band set with Liquidation, Earthquake, Ice Punch, and Flip Turn can be used to take advantage of Swampert's base 110 Attack while also being able to deal with the Dragon- and Grass-types of the tier more effectively.
  • Scald can be used as an alternative Water-type attack to potentially burn foes like Skarmory Celesteela that Swampert otherwise struggles against, but it is hard to slot into Swampert's moveset over the utility other moves provide. and uses Swampert's low Special Attack to deal damage.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types and Grass-type Coverage**: Pokemon such as Amoonguss, Zarude, Tangrowth, and Tapu Bulu can easily scare Swampert out with their 4x super effective STAB moves, though the latter two do not like taking a potential Toxic. former does not appreciate taking an Earthquake. say how it also gets forced out by threats that carry Grass-type coverage like gyarados and how it can't switch into thundurus-t until it scouts for grass knot

**Dragon-types**: Salamence, Hydriegon, and Zygarde-10% zydog doesn't do this, swampert can check it in a pinch all either resist or are immune to Swampert's STAB moves and can force it out, though Swampert can cripple these Pokemon with Toxic or make progress against them with Flip Turn.

**Flying-types**: Mandibuzz, Celesteela, and Skarmory are all immune to Swampert's main damaging move in Earthquake, making it so they can easily force out Swampert. The latter two are also immune to Toxic thanks to their Steel-typing, making it even harder for Swampert to deal with them. this section shouldn't be here. mandi dies if it gets toxic, swampert beats celesteela, and skarm isn't big enough to have its own section. just cut this part.

add a section on status, especially from threats who swampert typically checks like excadrill and rotom-h

add a section on powerful wallbreakers like conkeldurr, choice specs primarina, and azumarill who can muscle through swampert

  • Access to Flip Turn also allows Swampert to act as a slow pivot that can work on offensive teams, limiting its passivity, letting it make progress against walls such as Chansey, and bringing in slower, frailer would not call conk frail when he tanks a hit from a lot teammates like Conkeldurr to wallbreak.
  • However, Swampert finds itself hindered by a large number of the tier's threats. • Swampert is also very vulnerable to status moves like Toxic, especially from Pokemon it should check like Excadrill, making it much less effective as a tank. try to add that knock off from Pokemon like Nihilego and Thundurus-T also contribute to this, just make sure to not make it so wordy
  • Swampert also finds itself competing for a slot on teams with fellow hazard setter Ground-types Excadrill and Krookodile, which also offer more role compression than Swampert. However, if running Swampert alongside Tapu Bulu, High Horsepower should be used as the Ground STAB move instead, since Earthquake's damage output is heavily weakened by the Grassy Terrain that Tapu Bulu sets up.
  • Flip Turn lets Swampert make progress against foes like Thundurus-T and Salamence while also allowing it to act as a slow pivot to bring in teammates like Conkeldurr and Diggersby safely. Thundurus-t will likely not stay in unless they're OHKOing you with Grass Knot, change this for something like Zarude or Hydreigon since those are mons Conkeldurr can actually check. Diggersby is also a weird mention, it doesn't want to be in front of Salamence or most switch-ins that swampert attracts, change this to something like Azumarill or Mamoswine.

  • Offensive pivots such as Thundurus-T, Mienshao, and Zarude form VoltTurn cores with Swampert to help bring each other and their teammates onto the field while also being able to deal with foes I would go with "overwhelm" instead because they don't necessarily want to go with roserade 1 v 1, but together they can keep up the pressure that Swampert can't handle, such as Roserade and Hydreigon.

[OVERVIEW]

An excellent Water/Ground typing, access to a plethora of utility moves such as Toxic, Yawn, and Stealth Rock, and good matchups against the tier's hazard removers like Excadrill, Tentacruel, and Mandibuzz make Swampert a solid choice for a hazard setter. Good matchups against Pokemon like Jirachi, Krookodile, and Celesteelamaybe use Lycanroc-D or Rotom-H over Celesteela as an example here contribute to Swampert's great defensive utility, making it useful with dealing with many top threats, Access to Flip Turn also allows Swampert to act as a slow pivot, limiting its passivity, letting it make progress against walls such as Chansey, and bringing in slower teammates like Conkeldurr to wallbreak. However, Swampert finds itself hindered by a large number of the tier's threats. Grass-types like Tangrowth and Zarude threaten to OHKO Swampert with their 4x super effective STAB moves, while powerful wallbreakers like Mienshao new example is needed here since Shao is UUBL and Azumarill take advantage of Swampert's lack of reliable recovery to break through it. Swampert is also very vulnerable to status and utility moves like Toxic and Knock Off, especially from Pokemon it should check like Excadrill and Nihilego, making it much less effective as a tank. Swampert also finds itself competing for a slot on teams with fellow hazard setter Ground-types Excadrill and Krookodile, which also offer more role compression than Swampert instead of saying they offer more role compression, I'd say they can keep up offensive pressure more consistently. The former also acts a hazard remover with Rapid Spin, while the latter can use Knock Off to cripple foes that Swampert struggles with. Swampert does have better matchups against hazard removers such as Moltres and Tentacruel, though. I'd honestly cut this part I've crossed out since I think this overview is a bit wordy.

Earthquake is Swampert's main damaging move, dealing massive damage to other hazard removers like Excadrill and Tentacruel and letting it get hazards up without much trouble while also taking care of threats like Aegislash. The basic info is covered by mentioning its ability to hit hazard removers imo, everything else can be cut so this isn't too wordy. However, if running Swampert alongside Tapu Bulu, High Horsepower should be used instead, since Earthquake's damage output is heavily weakened by Grassy Terrain. Now that Tapu Bulu is more niche again, I'd move the High Horsepower line to Other Options. Flip Turn lets Swampert make progress against foes like Zarude and Salamence while also allowing it to act as a slow pivot to bring in teammates like Conkeldurr and Azumarill safely. Toxic can be used to cripple walls such as Tangrowth that force out Swampert. Yawn can be used to shut down offensive powerhouses that may threaten Swampert's teammates instead of what you have here, list common switch-ins to Swampert that it can deter from attacking it with Yawn, then generating momentum with Yawn and force switches, allowing Swampert to generate even more momentum. A physically defensive EV spread with a Relaxed nature allows Swampert to tank powerful physical attacks from foes like Mamoswine, Lycanroc-D, and Excadrill while giving it a slow Flip Turn to underspeed threats like defensive Celesteela. Update your spread and nature info here. You can move the mention of a physically defensive spread to Other Options. 28 Speed IVs allows Swampert to underspeed opposing Swampert with Flip Turn while still being able to outspeed Chansey.

Tapu Bulu makes an excellent partner for Swampert, as its Grassy Terrain gives Swampert additional recovery, which increases its longevity even further. In turn, Swampert can help deal with Poison-types such as Nidoking, Nihilego, and Tentacruel that threaten Tapu Bulu. I'd put the Tapu Bulu sentences further down in this section considering it's no longer as prominent as when this analysis was first written up. Slow wallbreakers, such as Conkeldurr and Mamoswine, greatly appreciate having Swampert as a teammate, as the combination of Yawn to cripple enemies and Flip Turn to pivot out allows them to be brought in safely against Pokemon like Hydriegon and Amoonguss to wallbreak. Offensive pivots such as Thundurus-T, Mienshao, and Zarude form VoltTurn cores with Swampert to help bring each other and their teammates onto the field while also being able to overwhelm foes that Swampert can't handle, such as Roserade and Hydreigon. Swampert greatly appreciates Pokemon like Skarmory and Moltres that can check the Grass-types that Swampert fears so much. The former also forms a hazard stacking core with Swampert while the latter forms a momentum core with it. Clerics such as Sylveon replace Sylveon with Umbreon here and Jirachi provide Wish support, which Swampert greatly appreciates as a method of increasing its longevity. Entry hazard removers like Tentacruel, Excadrill, and Mandibuzz remove Spikes from the battlefield, which helps increase Swampert's longevity.

A Choice Band set with Liquidation, Earthquake, Ice Punch, and Flip Turn can be used to take advantage of Swampert's base 110 Attack stat while also being able to deal with the Dragon- and Grass-types of the tier more effectively. **Grass-types and Grass-type coverage**: Pokemon such as Amoonguss, Zarude, Tangrowth, and Tapu Bulu can easily scare Swampert out with their 4x super effective STAB moves, though the latter two do not like the potential of taking a Toxic. Swampert also fears Grass-type coverage from non-Grass-type Pokemon for a similar reason, leaving it unable to deal with Gyarados's Power Whip and being unable to properly check Thundurus-T until it scouts for Grass Knot.

**Dragon-types**: Salamence and Hydriegon both either resist or are immune to Swampert's STAB moves and can force it out, though Swampert can cripple these Pokemon with Toxic or make progress against them with Flip Turn Flip Turn isn't particularly threatening to them so I don't think it's necessary to note here.

**Status**: Pokemon like Excadrill and Rotom-H that struggle to deal with Swampert otherwise can use Toxic to cripple it, negating Swampert's Leftovers recovery and drastically worsening its longevity.

**Powerful wallbreakers**: Pokemon like Conkeldurr, Choice Specs Primarina, and Azumarill can overwhelm Swampert's defenses with their extreme offensive prowess note that this is because of its lack of a reliable recovery move and take it out easily.

[OVERVIEW]

An excellent Water/Ground typing, access to a plethora of utility moves such as Toxic, Yawn, and Stealth Rock, and good matchups against the tier's entry hazard removers like Excadrill, Tentacruel, and Mandibuzz make Swampert a solid choice for a hazard setter. Good matchups against Pokemon top threats like Jirachi, Krookodile, and Lycanroc-D contribute to Swampert's great defensive utility, making it useful with dealing with many top threats, Access to Flip Turn also allows Swampert to act as utility. Flip Turn lets it also be a slow pivot, limiting its passivity, letting it make making progress against walls such as Chansey, and bringing in slower teammates like Conkeldurr to wallbreak. However, Swampert finds itself hindered by a large number of the tier's threats. many of the tier's threats hinder Swampert. Grass-types like Tangrowth and Zarude threaten to OHKO Swampert with their 4x super effective STAB moves, it, while powerful wallbreakers like Conkeldurr and Azumarill take advantage of Swampert's its lack of reliable recovery to break through it. Swampert is also very vulnerable to status and utility moves like Toxic and Knock Off, (if there's 1 more utility move worth including, just do "status, Knock Off, and _____". if there's 2+ more important ones, ignore this change) especially from Pokemon it should check like Excadrill and Nihilego, making which make it much less effective as a tank. Swampert also finds itself competing for a slot on teams competes for a teamslot with fellow hazard setter Ground-types Excadrill and Krookodile, which also keep up offensive pressure more consistently than Swampert.

[SET COMMENTS]

Earthquake is Swampert's main damaging move, dealing deals massive damage to other entry hazard removers like Excadrill and Tentacruel. Flip Turn lets Swampert make makes progress against foes like Zarude and Salamence while also allowing it to act as a slow pivot to bring bringing in teammates like Conkeldurr and Azumarill safely with a slow pivot. Toxic can be used to cripple cripples walls such as Tangrowth that force out Swampert. Yawn instead can be used to shut down offensive powerhouses that may threaten Swampert's teammates, (AC) and force switches, allowing Swampert as well as forcing switches to generate even more momentum. 112 Special Defense EVs and a Sassy Careful (see note with nature) nature allow Swampert to tank powerful special hits from foes like Thundurus-T and Salamence, while 144 Defense EVs prevent Swampert from getting 2HKOed by Excadrill and Zygarde-10% from 2HKOing it. 28 Speed IVs allows Swampert to underspeed opposing Swampert with Flip Turn while still being able to outspeed Chansey.

Slow wallbreakers, such as Conkeldurr and Mamoswine, greatly appreciate having Swampert as a teammate, as the combination of Yawn to cripple enemies and Flip Turn to pivot out allows them to be brought in safely Swampert crippling enemies and Flip Turn giving them safe entry (you can change "Swampert" to "Yawn" if you want, but my guess was that both tox and yawn help there. tho, again, you can change it if that's wrong) against Pokemon like Hydriegon Hydreigon and Amoonguss to wallbreak. Offensive pivots such as Thundurus-T, Mienshao, and Zarude form VoltTurn cores with Swampert to help bring each other and their teammates onto the field while also being able to overwhelm while also overwhelming foes that Swampert can't handle, such as Roserade and Hydreigon. Tapu Bulu makes an great partner for Swampert, as its Grassy Terrain gives Swampert additional recovery, which increases its longevity even further. gives Swampert much-appreciated additional recovery through Grassy Terrain. In turn, Swampert can help deal with Poison-types such as Nidoking, Nihilego, and Tentacruel, (AC) that which threaten Tapu Bulu. Wish recovery from clerics such as Umbreon and Jirachi is also great for its longevity. Swampert greatly appreciates Pokemon like Skarmory and Moltres that can check the Grass-types that Swampert it fears so much. The former also forms an entry hazard stacking core with Swampert, (AC) while the latter forms a momentum VoltTurn core with it. Clerics such as Umbreon and Jirachi provide Wish support, which Swampert greatly appreciates as a method of increasing its longevity. Entry hazard removers like Tentacruel, Excadrill, and Mandibuzz remove Spikes from the battlefield, which helps increase Swampert's longevity. stop Spikes from punishing Swampert's pivoting.

A physically defensive EV spread with a Relaxed an Impish (assuming nature remains careful) nature allows Swampert to tank powerful physical attacks from foes like Mamoswine, Lycanroc-D, and Excadrill, (AC) while giving it a slow Flip Turn to underspeed threats like defensive Celesteela, (not sure how going physdef over spdef would affect what swampert is able to underspeed) but it makes Swampert more vulnerable to powerful special attackers like Thundurus and Azelf.
