I've never played competitive Pokemon before and I'm looking to start seriously playing PvP in Showdown and in-game, but I'm too nervous to try out my team in any actual matches -- mainly because it's gimmicky as hell. I love the weird and unlikely synergies you can pull off in doubles, so most of my theorycraft teams are based around one of these weird synergies or another. Here is my current Trick Room team I've made up.
Greedent @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Cheek Pouch
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Brave Nature
- Earthquake
- Psychic Fangs
- Belly Drum
- Protect
Drifblim @ Normal Gem
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Brave Nature
- Trick Room
- Explosion
- Acrobatics
- Phantom Force
Rabsca @ Focus Sash
Ability: Telepathy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Trick Room
- Revival Blessing
- Safeguard
- Psychic
Orthworm @ Grassy Seed
Ability: Earth Eater
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Body Press
- Shed Tail
- Iron Defense
- Stealth Rock
Arboliva @ Leftovers
Ability: Seed Sower
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Terrain Pulse
- Strength Sap
- Pollen Puff
- Giga Drain
Grafaiai @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Taunt
- Substitute
- Baton Pass
- Knock Off
The idea is to start off with Greedent and Drifblim in the front.
Turn 1: Greedent uses Belly Drum, Drifblim sets up Trick Room. Greedent eats its Sitrus Berry and heals back to full.
Turn 2: Greedent uses Protect, Drifblim Explodes. Use your fainted Pokemon to bring in one of Grafaiai, Arboliva, or Orthworm -- Grafaiai to support Greedent, Arboliva to deal with the Special Side of things, or Orthworm to act as a more resilient secondary Physical threat (which gets some extra heals from Greedent's EQs).
Once you lose another Pokemon or lose Trick Room, bring in Rabsca to reapply Trick Room and Revival Blessing one of your mons back, depending on the situation.
I don't know the meta, and I don't know how resilient or frail this team is. I am most confident in the Greedent/Drifblim/Rabsca 'shell' I have, but didn't quite have much idea on what to do for the other three (Orthworm I added because honestly it's just my favorite Pokemon from this gen). Are there any edits I can make to my Greedent/Drifblim/Rabsca shell to make it more resilient to disruption, and what sort of support should the last three slots comprise of?
Many thanks in advance from a nervous noob
