Project SV RU Next Best Thing - Week 11: Tera

Double Thrusters Infernape
:infernape:
Infernape @ Eject Pack
Ability: Blaze
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Overheat
- Close Combat
- Vacuum Wave
- Grass Knot

this Infernape set has two ways to activate eject pack with Overheat and Close Combat using a mixed set. Both are very high BP stabs, which hit their targets hard even without investment. I chose to invest on the special side, as I wanted an Ape that can hit Slowbro on the switch with grass knot to 2hko it after rocks. Physical investment is viable as well, likely choosing something like knock off over grassknot to remove slowbros covert cloak or boots for its teammates. Ape can pick either Mach punch or vacuum wave for priority, likely choosing whichever it is invested in. The priority is weak, but it can definitely save your ass, and with Tera Fighting can be boosted to more acceptable strength. Infernape has so many good moves like encore, taunt, rocks, and any of these can fit in one of its slots if you prefer. Eject Pack allows ape to choose one of these moves over u-turn as you can see with this set. It can also be a good lure, using a special move or physical move first, then switching to attacking the other defensive stat next time it’s on the field. Special walls like umbreon and alolan muk for example will be stinged much harder by CC than anything special Infernape can throw out.

Amoonguss @ Eject Pack
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 248 HP / 172 Def / 88 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stun Spore
- Toxic
- Leaf Storm
- Foul Play

One of Amoonguss's biggest issues is how much of a momentum sink it can be at times. Eject Pack + Leaf Storm allows you to absorb a hit for your offensive team and get the momentum thanks to a slow Leaf Storm. Hoodra can absorb it but you can then Foul Play it after it gets an Atk boost.

Thank you everyone for your submissions!

:eject pack: It is time to vote for your favorite set! :eject pack:

Blastoise @ Eject Pack
Ability: Torrent
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shell Smash
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Tera Blast

Blastoise is an excellent shell smasher on its own, and the lethality of an endgame sweep by one cannot be overstated, however, what if you could have more than one Shell Smasher on your team without having to venture into niche and frankly pretty bad users like Cloyster. Eject Pack Blastoise does this with two excellent partners that are already found on most HO teams, being Mimikyu and Maushold, with the use of the move Copycat, copying the last move used in battle, foregoing their usual tools of Tidy Up and Swords Dance for the mostly superior Shell Smash. This strategy is far more effective with Mimikyu, as it has Disguise which lets it eat an attack while Shell Smashing, but depending on the situation and Tera, Maushold can also be an effective user of it as well. A +2 Attack +2 Speed Mimikyu is extremely lethal, and you can more easily run Life Orb over Red Card due to the additional speed boost. Emerging cores like Hippo + Hoodra make this strategy much more effective, as Hoodra usually wants to switch into a Shell Smashing Blastoise to D-Tail it out, but fall flat in front of a +2 Mimikyu.
Mienshao @ Eject Pack
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Acrobatics
- Ice Spinner

This is a bit of a unique set, as it combines eject pack with a bit of a unique move in acrobatics. Now, mienshao is not the strongest mon in the world, and usually can struggle a bit into some fighting types that outspeed it or can take its hits (primarily okidogi). And due to its fraility, if it can't claim that ko, its going to get knocked out. This set can alleviate some of those issues by making sure meinshao doesn't have to take that hit, something else has to. Now, mienshao doubly benefits from being switched out. Firstly, its regenerator ability activates, meaning it can potentially take a hit in a pinch. Secondly, it boosts the power of acro so mienshao in order to deal with okidogi and amoonguss better primarily, but have a really strong attack. Both of these mons are 2hit ko'd by full power acro, and other things don't like taking that hit.
Also this is one of the first times I've used mienshao in RU, really cool mon.

:mienshao: :klefki: :talonflame: :crawdaunt: :golurk: :mew:
This is the team I used this set on, which contains some unique sets on it. Firstly, lagging tail klefki can cripple any faster mon that trys to boost its speed (take that toise and yanmega) and doesn't really mind the lowered speed due to prankester. SD talon can outspeeed most of the tier and clean up games easily, while focus sash golurk can reliably get up rocks because all hazard leads don't like taking its hits. Now, the mons that benefit from this set. Craw is usually a mon that can struggle to get in and usually needs to be on volt turn teams to work effectively. Due to mienshao baiting in psychic types, craw can use the eject pack in order to get in safely and start dishing out damage. Mew also really likes the free pivot in and golurk can do some serious damage if it sticks around (it usually doesn't, but its nice if it does).
Goodra-Hisui @ Eject Pack
Ability: Sap Sipper
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt

Goodra-Hisui has an absurdly spammable movepool, which we capitalize on here with an offensive set featuring Draco Meteor to trigger Eject Pack, Fire Blast to obliterate incoming Steels, Flash Cannon for Fairy coverage, and Thunderbolt to annihilate bulky Waters.
Infernape @ Eject Pack

Wo-Chien about to go so fast with that one. You can Trick a Scarf on Slowbro's defensive answers like other fat waters, grass, and psychics to ruin them permanently. It also allows you to have a Slowbro that can ruin Stall's day.

Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Future Sight
- Psychic Noise
- Body Press

So, there were two sets I was having my eye on, Iron defense+Body Press Bro and AV Bro. I decided to go with the latter. AV Bro can wall many more things that it otherwise couldn't, and can be quite the stallbreaker tbh with tera poison. Scald is of course, a move that any slowbro needs (unless you are a freak like flampoke...) and future sight can help set up teammates to deal devestating damage. Psychic noise helps against opposing bros without coverk cloak, and can help break stall even easier. Body press finally does big damage to special walling mons such as chansey, hoodra and empoleon.

Calcs:
252 SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Slowbro: 210-248 (53.2 - 62.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Magnezone Volt Switch vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Slowbro: 302-356 (76.6 - 90.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (from full health, magnezone can't just volt switch out, it needs to use t-bolt, which you can take advantage of)
+1 252 SpA Armarouge Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Slowbro: 230-272 (58.3 - 69%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Block
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Rest

This set allows Slowbro to trap in passive opponents and stall them out, allowing it to set up and win. Rest is needed to heal status that could beat you, as well as granting pseudo-extra PP with the sleep turns, and Leftovers would work better on this set because it helps with stalling.
