- Knock Off

Despite being out for less than a week, there have been a few sets that have popped up as standouts. AV, Specs and AcidPress (though acidpress is a bit meh compared to the first two) are all the main sets people have been running. However, a set that hasn't talked much, if at all, about is Choice Band Hoodra.
This set decides to suprise special walls that think they can either completely wall it or temporarily wall it depending on the set (and not sometimes flop like acid press does when its revealed) by hitting them for big damage and still having good wallbreaking potential after the set has been revealed. Hoodra can pressure quite a few of the physical walls in the tier through sheer damage or crippling them with knock. Only really hippo and forretress are safe against all of hoodra's moves, but that's where a few suprises can come in handy.
The ability chosen is sap sipper, which while usually mediocre on normal hoodra sets, is excellent here. By switching into something like a stun spore from amoonguss or leech seed from wo chien, hoodra can gain a +1 attack boost which allows it to 2hit or OHKO things it usually couldn't. For example, hippowdon is probably the best switch in to hoodra (though it can get overwhelmed) as it avoids the 2hit ko from outrage. However, at +1, this is not the case and the opponent now doesn't really feel comfortable using these status moves otherwise they could boost up hoodra.
The tera types are flexible I feel. Tera ground boosts the power of e-quake to deal more damage and remove your ground and fighting weaknesses, potentially letting you take a hit and respond with a ko. Tera dragon removes said weaknesses, but boosts the power of outrage to stupifying levels.

Calcs:
252+ Atk Choice Band Goodra-Hisui Outrage vs. 252 HP / 204+ Def Chesnaught: 175-207 (46 - 54.4%) -- 53.1% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Goodra-Hisui Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Neutralizing Gas Weezing-Galar: 342-404 (102.3 - 120.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Goodra-Hisui Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 181-214 (45.9 - 54.3%) -- 53.1% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Goodra-Hisui Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Hippowdon: 172-204 (40.9 - 48.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+1 252+ Atk Choice Band Goodra-Hisui Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Hippowdon: 259-306 (61.6 - 72.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Goodra-Hisui Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Jirachi: 300-354 (74.2 - 87.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Defensive tank Goodra

Goodra-Hisui @ Leftovers
Ability: Shell Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 244 Def / 12 Spe
Tera Type: Flying
Bold Nature
- Acid Armor
- Flash Cannon
- Flamethrower
- Rest

Here we have a densive attemp when using Goodra, which already has good natural bulk, especially when taking into account weaknesses and resistances. Shell Armor is the perfect ability alongside Acid Armor (picked over Shelter due to the PP) and Rest + Leftovers allows Goodra to keep itself healthy throughout the match. Flash Cannon + Flamethrower is the combination of attacking moves chosen to keep some offensive presence, even with uninvested offenses.

The EVs spread is a bulky defensive one, with 12 Spe points in order to outspeed some slower monsters, even with minimal EVs investment.

Tera Flying is just perfect because this way we resist Fighting while being neutral to Ground, and this is important if we want to set-up and we predict the coming of Ground/Fighting moves.

Bulk Setup Sweeper Hoodra
:Goodra-Hisui: @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Shell Armor
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 HP / 64 Def / 56 SpD / 136 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Body Press
- Acid Armor
- Rest
- Flash Cannon / Heavy Slam

With acid armor and body press, hoodra can become a great threat to the enemy, shell armor is perfect for hoodra, as it makes him immune to critical hits, hoodra spread also are nice for outspeed pokémon with a base speed of 70, flash cannon can be used to hit fairy Pokémon that would normally resist body press, such as geezing and fezandipiti, heavy slam also is another good option.

Physical-based AV Tank

:sv/goodra-hisui:
Goodra-Hisui @ Assault Vest
Ability: Gooey
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Atk / 216 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Tail
- Heavy Slam
- Knock Off
- Ice Spinner / Earthquake

Alternative EV spread: 252 HP / 40 SpD / 216 Spe with a Careful nature

A classic AV Tank set for Hoodra, forgoing Draco Meteor whos damage is often not enough to break past what it wants to due to being limited in how much SpA investment you can have without losing on too much bulk and speed, allowing for a +Atk nature for a stronger Dragon Tail. Since Draco Meteor is not used in this set, we can use this 4th slot for added utility or coverage; Since Knock Off already heavily cripples Fire types and Jirachi, and Hoodra's first 3 slots already cover almost everything we want, I opted for Ice Spinner, a fun little option that helps against cheesy Terrain teams ; although Earthquake is still viable as the strongest option against opposing Hoodra.

Thank you everyone for your submissions!

Week 5 - Eject Pack

:eject pack::eject pack::eject pack::eject pack:
This week of Next Best Thing will be a little special: This time, you will submit a set using a specific item!

Eject Pack is an item that forces a Pokemon suffering a stat drop to switch out. It is a niche item that can be played in conjunction with moves such as Leaf Storm, Draco Meteor, or Close Combat for example. Do not forget that your submission must show viability, it is recommended to stick to Pokemon present in the Viability Ranking you can find here. More than ever, showing a team in which your set fits is a great idea as Eject Pack is a supportive pivoting option that lets teammates enter the field.

Submission deadline: Sunday, July 14th, 11:59 pm GMT-7

HO Combo

Blastoise @ Eject Pack
Ability: Torrent
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shell Smash
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Tera Blast

Blastoise is an excellent shell smasher on its own, and the lethality of an endgame sweep by one cannot be overstated, however, what if you could have more than one Shell Smasher on your team without having to venture into niche and frankly pretty bad users like Cloyster. Eject Pack Blastoise does this with two excellent partners that are already found on most HO teams, being Mimikyu and Maushold, with the use of the move Copycat, copying the last move used in battle, foregoing their usual tools of Tidy Up and Swords Dance for the mostly superior Shell Smash. This strategy is far more effective with Mimikyu, as it has Disguise which lets it eat an attack while Shell Smashing, but depending on the situation and Tera, Maushold can also be an effective user of it as well. A +2 Attack +2 Speed Mimikyu is extremely lethal, and you can more easily run Life Orb over Red Card due to the additional speed boost. Emerging cores like Hippo + Hoodra make this strategy much more effective, as Hoodra usually wants to switch into a Shell Smashing Blastoise to D-Tail it out, but fall flat in front of a +2 Mimikyu.

Eject Acro Mienshao
:sv/mienshao:
Mienshao @ Eject Pack
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Acrobatics
- Ice Spinner
This is a bit of a unique set, as it combines eject pack with a bit of a unique move in acrobatics. Now, mienshao is not the strongest mon in the world, and usually can struggle a bit into some fighting types that outspeed it or can take its hits (primarily okidogi). And due to its fraility, if it can't claim that ko, its going to get knocked out. This set can alleviate some of those issues by making sure meinshao doesn't have to take that hit, something else has to. Now, mienshao doubly benefits from being switched out. Firstly, its regenerator ability activates, meaning it can potentially take a hit in a pinch. Secondly, it boosts the power of acro so mienshao in order to deal with okidogi and amoonguss better primarily, but have a really strong attack. Both of these mons are 2hit ko'd by full power acro, and other things don't like taking that hit.
Also this is one of the first times I've used mienshao in RU, really cool mon.

:mienshao: :klefki: :talonflame: :crawdaunt: :golurk: :mew:
This is the team I used this set on, which contains some unique sets on it. Firstly, lagging tail klefki can cripple any faster mon that trys to boost its speed (take that toise and yanmega) and doesn't really mind the lowered speed due to prankester. SD talon can outspeeed most of the tier and clean up games easily, while focus sash golurk can reliably get up rocks because all hazard leads don't like taking its hits. Now, the mons that benefit from this set. Craw is usually a mon that can struggle to get in and usually needs to be on volt turn teams to work effectively. Due to mienshao baiting in psychic types, craw can use the eject pack in order to get in safely and start dishing out damage. Mew also really likes the free pivot in and golurk can do some serious damage if it sticks around (it usually doesn't, but its nice if it does).

Eject Hoodra

Goodra-Hisui @ Eject Pack
Ability: Sap Sipper
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt

Goodra-Hisui has an absurdly spammable movepool, which we capitalize on here with an offensive set featuring Draco Meteor to trigger Eject Pack, Fire Blast to obliterate incoming Steels, Flash Cannon for Fairy coverage, and Thunderbolt to annihilate bulky Waters.

Calcs:
252+ SpA Goodra-Hisui Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Slowbro: 230-272 (58.3 - 69%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Goodra-Hisui Flash Cannon vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Fezandipiti: 212-252 (55.7 - 66.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Goodra-Hisui Draco Meteor vs. 104 HP / 152 SpD Assault Vest Cyclizar: 320-378 (104.2 - 123.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Goodra-Hisui Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 32 SpD Jirachi: 226-268 (55.9 - 66.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Goodra-Hisui Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 169-201 (39.6 - 47.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Goodra-Hisui Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Wo-Chien: 136-162 (36.3 - 43.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ SpA Goodra-Hisui Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 126-148 (31.9 - 37.5%) -- 0.2% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
