Gholdengo @ Covert Cloak
Ability: Good As Gold
EVs: 188 HP/252 SpA/68 Spe
Modest Nature
Tera-Type: Ghost
- Hex
- Recover/Make It Rain
- Nasty Plot
- Thunder Wave

Gholdengo has what is arguably the best typing to take Cresselia on: Steel to resist both Moonblast and Stored Power, and Ghost to hit it hard with a super-effective STAB move. However, even though it resists Stored Power, Ghold can only afford to let Cress to get up to +4/+4 and still take a hit from it safely, hence why its a check. It has only has a slim to chance to survive a +5/+5, and only if Cress gets one of the three absolute lowest roles possible.

+5 0 SpA Cresselia Stored Power (220 BP) vs. 188 HP / 0 SpD Gholdengo: 352-414 (97.2 - 114.3%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

Of course, offensive Gholdengo would absolutely fall flat on its face; hence the shift in nature from Timid to Modest, and a significant investment in HP. The 68 Speed EVs it still has allows Ghold to speed-creep this particular Cress, and Thunder Wave it to slow it down even more.

The paralysis that Ghold can inflict with TWave also has the potential to completely negate any action from Cress at all, buying Ghold time to catch up to its Special Defense boosts with Nasty Plot, before inflicting heavy damage with a boosted Hex. Realistically, by the time Ghold had switched in and successfully got a Thunder Wave off, Cress would've already gotten to +2/+2, since it won't want to attack any sooner that. However, if it chooses to attack at that point in time, or better yet tries to go for a third CM but gets para'd...

+2 0 SpA Cresselia Stored Power (100 BP) vs. 188 HP / 0 SpD Gholdengo: 92-108 (25.4 - 29.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
+2 0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 188 HP / 0 SpD Gholdengo: 58-69 (16 - 19%) -- possible 6HKO
+2 252+ SpA Gholdengo Hex (130 BP) vs. +2 252 HP / 0 SpD Cresselia: 408-480 (91.8 - 108.1%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

Of course, Cress can still Tera-Poison to soften the blow, but it won't survive non-Tera Hex into Tera-Ghost Hex :]

+2 252+ SpA Gholdengo Hex (130 BP) vs. +2 252 HP / 0 SpD Tera Poison Cresselia: 204-240 (45.9 - 54%) -- 3.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ SpA Tera Ghost Gholdengo Hex (130 BP) vs. +2 252 HP / 0 SpD Tera Poison Cresselia: 272-320 (61.2 - 72%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

What's the benefit of having hex over shadow ball? Bc cress can wear you down over time with hazards and switch in chip. It can also just boost over your dengo with tera poison and outpace you. Plus, it makes your dengo weaker to cress's teammates and switches. And lastly, if cress gets to +2 before you switch dengo into it you kinda just lose without good para hax as it takes you 2-3 turns to start doing damage through the cms.

Hey, wanted to clear a couple things before starting the voting phase.

NoobHereWaddup Do you want to submit it as Check instead of Counter still? Its fine if you need 2 specific moves, we are submitting sets after all and Tinkaton already likes to run those moves anyway. But yeah, your call

Zora489 Cresselia actually does a lot specially after a Calm Mind

+1 0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Hoopa-Unbound: 128-152 (42.5 - 50.4%)

You can actually lose as the Hoopa if they get the right plays and rolls on their side. I think your set would fit better as a Check rather than a Counter. If thats fine then I will submit it as such in the voting phase, but also your call.

Finally, the user that reserved Kingambit has since been banned. If someone else (who hasn't already made a submission) wants to take it then feel free.

Banded priority to the rescue! As long as you can get Dragonite in safetly all you need to do is Tera and click Extreme Speed and Sneasler is cooked no matter what. Of course this is reliant on Tera but hey, if you're using dnite you're practically saving Tera for it anyways.

...Unless it's Grassy Seed, but if that's the case you can just click Outrage instead and you still win, so long as multiscale is up, but that does give you a small chance at a loss if you get unlucky with Dire Claw status roll if they go for it since they'll be able to move first in that case.

It can KO sneasler often esp after the 6% from stealth rocks since 37.2 + 56.1 = 93.3 + 6.25 = 99.55 so you basically always KO it

this is a 3hko at most... and it is not really doing much damage otherwise... it can take dire claw -> 3 acrobatics often

But... it can tera flying which makes it a 2hko with poison or forces a lot of slcak off

252+ Atk Tera Flying Sneasler Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 40+ Def Skeledirge: 172-204 (41.7 - 49.5%) -- 85.9% chance to 2HKO after poison damage

Overall.. skeledirge is a hard check that can often come in and deal with sneasler under most circumstances

Gholdengo @ Leftovers
Ability: Good as Gold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Tera Type: Flying
Bold Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Make It Rain
- Thunder Wave
- Recover

Physdef Gholdengo has been my go-to Sneasler check since HOME dropped. Being immune to Sneasler's STAB combo and resisting its most common coverage move in Acrobatics, Gholdengo can switch in and win the 1v1 nearly every time:

+2 252+ Atk Tera Flying Sneasler Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gholdengo: 147-173 (38.8 - 45.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Gholdengo Make It Rain over 2 turns vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Sneasler: 332-392 (110.2 - 130.2%) -- guaranteed KO in 2 turns

The one major caveat I've run into is Light Screen. Sneasler is very common on Screens teams right now, and behind Light Screen things can get dicey:

0 SpA Gholdengo Make It Rain over 3 turns vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Sneasler through Light Screen: 215-254 (71.4 - 84.3%) -- not a KO
0 SpA Gholdengo Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Sneasler through Light Screen: 66-78 (21.9 - 25.9%) -- 3.8% chance to 4HKO

It's mainly for this reason that I'm using Thunder Wave in the third slot: even if Sneasler breaks through para and wins the 1v1, the speed drop will cripple it for a much easier revenge kill.

Houndstone is a check. While it has to rely on Rest for recovery, its physical bulk, typing, and Fluffy allow it to switch in on Sneasler's attacks somewhat comfortably, even after a Swords Dance boost. In a pinch, it can take even a +6 Tera Flying Acrobatics from full, although it obviously needs a free switch-in opportunity for that to amount to anything. Once in, Houndstone can attempt to either threaten Sneasler with a burn from Will-O-Wisp or phaze it out. There's not much else it can do, but burn and Rocky Helmet chip do add up eventually, since all of Sneasler's attacks make contact.

This is my spinblocker chesnaught set. Its multifunctional as a physical wall with little weaknesses, and its ability to setup and sweep, much like garg with its bulletproof ability. And lastly, it sets unremovable spikes when paired with gholdengo. I'd say this technically counts as a counter, but things become a bit problematic pre-tera but shouldn't be hard to make happen with proper hazard control. Generally, chesnaught can switch in on sneasler as it takes at most 50% from dire claw, and then you instantly tera the chesnaught and synth on their switch-out. Then, on later turns you can set spikes and pop their balloon without much risk.

As you can see, you aren't even weak to SD as you eat those hits as well. And covert cloak helps with many other pokemon within the meta, such as garg and flinchers. I like the set, and if you have any questions on the mon you can dm me.

EDIT : The - speed nature is for beating corviknight.

Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SpA (0 Spe IVs)

Tera-Type: Steel

In all realism, there's no outspeeding a Sneasler that has successfully triggered its Unburden ability. The mons that can are few and very far between; Swift Swim and Chlorophyll users need both Rain or Sun up respectively and a higher natural Speed stat, Dragapult needs not one, but 2 Dragon Dances up, and even Regieleki would need to Rapid Spin at least once. However, there's always one solution; if you can't outspeed it, set Trick Room up in its face and watch it cry as it can't do anything about it. (Or rather, forwent the ability to stop it for setting up like a scrub.)

Enter Armarouge, a very reliable Trick Room setter that not only checks Sneasler itself, but also allows the entire rest of the team to check Sneasler. Part of that reliability lies in its physical bulk; with 252 HP and 4 Def EVs, a healthy Armarouge can very easily take a single +2 attack from Sneasler

Rocks do interfere with this, unfortunately, so you'll either have to lead with Armarouge, or Tera-Steel immediately the next time it switches into Sneasler. This completely denies Dire Claw as an option and also cuts down on the damage output from Acrobatics (and allows you to survive the Tera variant, which it otherwise won't), but you'll also have to hope Sneasler didn't predict the Tera and click Close Combat instead.

+2 252+ Atk Sneasler Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tera Steel Armarouge: 131-154 (35 - 41.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 252+ Atk Tera Flying Sneasler Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tera Steel Armarouge: 196-231 (52.4 - 61.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Sneasler Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tera Steel Armarouge: 428-506 (114.4 - 135.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Psychic completely destroys a Sneasler that's yet to Tera, but the main thing you wanna click against it after your Trick Room is Armor Cannon. Not only does it let you get out afterwards thanks to the Eject Pack, but also deals heavy damage to Sneasler that Tera-Flying won't save it from.

252+ SpA Armarouge Armor Cannon vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tera Flying Sneasler: 252-297 (83.7 - 98.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

As you can see, even the lowest roll for Armor Cannon puts Sneasler in range for a Rocky Helmet user to finish it off, just by taking a hit in Armarouge's place. And if it switches out, you get the switch momentum instead, putting the Sneasler user on the backfoot either way :]

The other attacks are self-explanatory; Psychic hits most of the Fire-resists as hard as Armarouge can, and is especially good against Toxapex and Iron Moth, and Aura Sphere smacks Heatran which otherwise walls it off.

COUNTER : Dondozo :sv/dondozo:

Dondozo @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Liquidation
- Curse
- Sleep Talk
- Rest

The best pure physical wall in the game (sorry Zamazenta). It can check Sneasler even as it boosts thanks to its Unaware ability. And thanks to Sleep Talk, if Dondozo gets statused due to Dire Claw, the whale can just use Rest and get back to full again. And Curse makes sure it never loses to Sneasler.

Important calcs:
252+ Atk Tera Flying Sneasler Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Dondozo: 142-168 (28.1 - 33.3%) -- 91.1% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Tera Flying Sneasler Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Dondozo: 129-153 (25.5 - 30.3%) -- 0.5% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Tera Flying Sneasler Dire Claw vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Dondozo: 94-112 (18.6 - 22.2%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Dondozo Liquidation vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Flying Sneasler: 138-163 (45.8 - 54.1%) -- 50.8% chance to 2HKO

Toxapex:

Counter:

Toxapex @ Covert Cloak
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Psychic/Ground
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Haze
- Toxic
- Tera Blast/Surf
- Recover

So all in all, Toxapex is the best reliable check that you can use against Sneasler in my opinion. Covert Cloak allows it to not fall asleep/para which allows it to Counter Sneasler Reliably Also Max Defense allows it to withstand non tera Acrobatics. Its not over yet, You can chip down Sneasler using Surf or even Tera Psychic Blast for an OHKO!!(if sneasler is not invested in HP). Sneasler's move are all well countered by Toxapex. Also Swords Dance can do nothing Because of Haze! It also survives 5 hits from Tera'd Sneasler Acrobatics !!!
252+ Atk Tera Flying Sneasler Acrobatics (60 BP) vs. 252 HP / 192+ Def Toxapex: 60-72 (19.7 - 23.6%) -- possible 5HKO
252+ Atk Tera Flying Sneasler Dire Claw vs. 252 HP / 192+ Def Toxapex: 40-48 (13.1 - 15.7%) -- possible 7HKO
252+ Atk Tera Flying Sneasler Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 192+ Def Toxapex: 60-71 (19.7 - 23.3%) -- possible 5HKO

0- Atk Tera Psychic Toxapex Tera Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Sneasler: 324-384 (107.6 - 127.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
