Our new victim for Week 12 will be… Baxcalibur!
:sv/Baxcalibur:

Baxcalibur @ Loaded Dice
Ability: Thermal Exchange
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Icicle Spear
- Earthquake
- Glaive Rush

. . . . . . . The newest addition to the roster of Pseudo Legendary pokemon, this frozen monster fits the image of what many players thought Kyurem-Black should’ve been at its debut in Gen 5. With the fourth highest attack stat currently in SV, STAB priority in ice shard, a unique 120 BP dragon type move, and two different boosting options, Baxcalibur can be tweaked and tailored to fill an offensive niche on many types of teams. Loaded Dice gives access to an (average) 112.5 base power STAB move in Icicle Spear, helping it plow any fairies that otherwise resist its Tera Dragon-boosted Glaive Rush. Earthquake rounds out the set with coverage to hit annoying steel types like Kingambit and Gholdengo.

How will YOU crush this cryogenic concavenator? Submissions end Tuesday, April 18th at 23:59 GMT-3!

Please remember to clarify if you are submitting a set as a check or a true counter!

COUNTER

Dondozo @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Liquidation
- Body Press
- Protect/rest

Hardest defensive counter not only bax gets blocked, but you can also use him to set up

252 Atk Baxcalibur Glaive Rush vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Dondozo: 187-222 (37.1 - 44%) -- 99.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Baxcalibur Icicle Spear (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Dondozo: 60-72 (11.9 - 14.2%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252 Atk Baxcalibur Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Dondozo: 105-124 (20.8 - 24.6%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

+2 4 Def Dondozo Body Press vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Baxcalibur: 278-328 (74.9 - 88.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

:sv/orthworm:
Orthworm @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Earth Eater
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Heavy Slam
- Body Press
- Stealth Rock
- Shed Tail/Spikes

COUNTER
possibly the only reliable counter to this thing. even super bulky non resists take too much from tera dragon, while orth has very high def and resists/is immune to all its moves. also hits pretty well in return or just sr/shed tail

WELLL shed tail got banned but i'll keep this submission for now, since it wont drop till next month :>

+1 252 Atk Tera Dragon Baxcalibur Glaive Rush vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Orthworm: 118-139 (34.3 - 40.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Def Orthworm Body Press vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Baxcalibur: 222-262 (59.8 - 70.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Def Orthworm Body Press vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Dragon Baxcalibur: 111-131 (29.9 - 35.3%) -- 22.5% chance to 3HKO

U can sub/dd if u predict a switch

The Corv (Corviknight) @ Leftovers
Ability: Mirror Armor
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Brave Bird
- Body Press
- Protect
- Roost

So first of all, body press nets you a guaranteed 2HKO. Now all we have to do is ensure we can hit twice.

252+ Def Corviknight Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Baxcalibur: 178-210 (47.9 - 56.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

If bax is boosted, really you'll have to hit that body press right away and then tera steel to guarantee you'll survive for the kill. This is regardless of whatever tera type bax is. If bax is not boosted then you get a free kill. Good Luck!

And curse you who stole dondozo from me. Have fun getting everyone to vote for you. >:(

Gholdengo @ Air Balloon
Level: 100
Timid Nature
Ability: Good as Gold
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
- Make It Rain
- Shadow Ball
- Recover
- Nasty Plot

Being a meta defining threat. Balloon gholdengo is still one of his most used sets.

If baxcalibur sets up a ddance. It can easily tank any hit as it's balloon hasn't been popped.

+1 252 Atk Baxcalibur Glaive Rush vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Gholdengo: 166-196 (52.6 - 62.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
And if it is not +1, then no way it is breaking through.

252 Atk Baxcalibur Glaive Rush vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Gholdengo: 111-131 (35.2 - 41.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

While this set also ohkoes baxcalibur with a make it rain.

252 SpA Gholdengo Make It Rain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Baxcalibur: 338-398 (91.1 - 107.2%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

Iron Valiant @ Choice Specs
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Moonblast
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Psyshock

As long as Bax isn't boosted all you need to do is click Moonblast. Also very unlikely to go down to a 5 hit Icicle spear unboosted. Booster Energy doesn't work since you have to tera in order to get the OHKO on that set, and that makes it feel a lot more shaky imo.

252 SpA Choice Specs Iron Valiant Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Baxcalibur: 498-588 (134.2 - 158.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Baxcalibur Icicle Spear (5 hits) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Iron Valiant: 245-290 (84.7 - 100.3%) -- approx. 6.3% chance to OHKO

Tauros-Paldea-Blaze (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Body Press
- Raging Bull
- Protect

it is a hard check as it can come in on any attack and force it out with body press as with protect you can recover a lot of damage off meaning they have to play around it. Intimidate makes it so it is easier to take on and you can hard switch in on any attack, body press and make sure you keep it in check. If it dragon dances on switch you can tera flying to 50/50 it at that point, and i doubt they would risk a icicle spear

-1 252 Atk Baxcalibur Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tauros-Paldea-Blaze: 112-132 (31.6 - 37.2%) -- 84.1% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
-1 252 Atk Baxcalibur Glaive Rush vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tauros-Paldea-Blaze: 100-118 (28.2 - 33.3%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
-1 252 Atk Baxcalibur Glaive Rush vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tauros-Paldea-Blaze: 100-118 (28.2 - 33.3%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

you do have to be careful of tera dragon but after glaive rush you do enough damage to it that you can force it out or protect to recover enough hp to be out of range

252 Atk Tera Dragon Baxcalibur Glaive Rush vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tauros-Paldea-Blaze: 198-234 (55.9 - 66.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Tera Dragon Baxcalibur Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tauros-Paldea-Blaze: 166-196 (46.8 - 55.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Ability: Huge Power
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 116 HP / 252 Atk / 140 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Liquidation
- Ice Spinner

At least the first time you need to switch Choice Band Azumarill into Baxcalibur, it can take any 2 unboosted DD Baxcalibur hits or any one post-Dragon Dance Baxcalibur hit and OHKO back regardless of whether this Baxcalibur Teras:

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Dragon Baxcalibur: 576-678 (155.2 - 182.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Baxcalibur Earthquake vs. 116 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 142-168 (38.3 - 45.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+1 252 Atk Tera Dragon Baxcalibur Earthquake vs. 116 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 213-251 (57.5 - 67.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Baxcalibur Icicle Spear (5 hits) vs. 116 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 135-160 (36.4 - 43.2%) -- approx. 3HKO
+1 252 Atk Tera Dragon Baxcalibur Icicle Spear (5 hits) vs. 116 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 200-240 (54 - 64.8%) -- approx. 2HKO

Reserving tinkaton
I always try and come up with the dumbest answers to these. With that in mind.

Tinkaton as a counter

:Tinkaton: @ Air Balloon
Ability: Mold Breaker
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 204 Atk / 104 Def / 200 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Play Rough
- Gigaton Hammer
- Knock Off
- Stealth Rock

The speed allows you to outspeed +0 :baxcalibur:. The attack allows you to ohko it with gigaton hammer and even if they tera to live, play rough will kill afterwards. Air balloon allows you to switch in guaranteed and :tinkaton: can live a + 1 icicle spear with ease, guaranteeing the kill. Tera flying and the defence aren’t needed, but can be used to help :tinkaton: pivot into it under some niche circumstances.

Gigaton hammer into bax
204 Atk Mold Breaker Tinkaton Gigaton Hammer vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Baxcalibur: 372-438 (100.2 - 118%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Gigaton hammer into tera bax
204 Atk Mold Breaker Tinkaton Gigaton Hammer vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Dragon Baxcalibur: 186-219 (50.1 - 59%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Play rough into bax
204 Atk Mold Breaker Tinkaton Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Dragon Baxcalibur: 210-248 (56.6 - 66.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Icicle spear into tink
+1 252 Atk Tera Dragon Baxcalibur Icicle Spear (5 hits) vs. 0 HP / 104 Def Tinkaton: 180-215 (57.8 - 69.1%) -- approx. 2HKO

Walking.Wake.full.3905907.jpg

Walking Wake @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
EVs: 12 HP/244 SpA/252 Spe
Timid Nature
Tera-Type: Water
- Hydro Steam
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Substitute

So... some of you may remember that I tried to make an Assault Vest Baxcalibur check Walking Wake. Apparently that flopped, so instead I'm making Wake check Bax. Much easier to realize.

Anyway, a healthy Wake can always afford to aggressively switch into Bax most of the time. If it Glaives immediately (in front of possible Fairy switch-ins, no less), good play on its part, but apart from that...

252 Atk Baxcalibur Icicle Spear (5 hits) vs. 12 HP / 0 Def Walking Wake: 245-290 (71.6 - 84.7%) -- approx. 2HKO
252 Atk Baxcalibur Earthquake vs. 12 HP / 0 Def Walking Wake: 128-151 (37.4 - 44.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Meanwhile, Wake's Booster Energy procs on switch-in, allowing it to outspeed Bax even if it DDs that turn. That in turn allows Draco to safely pick up the kill.

244 SpA Walking Wake Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Baxcalibur: 464-548 (125 - 147.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

As per usual, 12 HP and 244 SpA EVs ensure that Wake's Speed gets boosted instead of its Special Attack.

I could've shifted those 12 EVs into Attack and ran a Naive nature to try and make Aqua Jet work as priority, although I don't have enough experience to tell you what exactly Jet achieves damage-wise or whether the loss in special bulk would be worth it. So instead I figured Substitute would do as Wake's final move. The ease in prediction always comes in handy from experience, and last time I checked, 342 doesn't cleanly divide by 4 :]

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 236 HP / 252 Atk / 20 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Close Combat
- Thief

It's probably not that hard to tell that I like Scizor a lot, so I'm happy that this week's victim does not like Scizor. Like most setup sweepers without priority, Baxcalibur is weak to priority. Common moves like mach punch and bullet punch scare it a lot. In fact, Baxcalibur would almost never risk setting up in front of Scizor or Breloom because of their powerful stab priority, which can take out a large chunk of it's health. Scizor can actually OHKO bax 50% of the time so if rocks are up or Baxcalibur has taken chip from a weak u-turn or volt switch, then it's as good as dead. If Baxcalibur's teammates have already terastallised, then Baxcalibur has no way out of this. Even if it has setup, scizor can simply tera steel to guarantee the OHKO. Scizor can also tank any hit from Baxcalibur fairly well, taking about 50-60% at most from a +1 earthquake and 60-70% from a +1 tera dragon glaive rush. If bax decides to tera dragon and glaive rush, it will be in for a nasty surprise because all of Scizor moves have at least a chance to OHKO after glaive rush. Scizor is a check because it cannot repeatedly switch into Baxcalibur, however, if given the opportunity, it can remove Baxcalibur for good.
252+ Atk Choice Band Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Baxcalibur: 344-408 (92.7 - 109.9%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Technician Tera Steel Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Baxcalibur: 460-544 (123.9 - 146.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Scizor Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Baxcalibur: 460-542 (123.9 - 146%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Adamant Nature
Ability: Huge Power
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Liquidation
- Belly drum

Someone had already submitted a CB Azumarill set, but I think dropping the Sitrus berry is not the way you want to go. This is key in understanding that Bax’s strongest move at +1 deals a max of 60% to Azum
+1 252 Atk Baxcalibur Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Azumarill: 212-250 (52.4 - 61.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
This means with a Sitrus Berry you can never be 2hko by non tera blast Bax, which lets you aggressively switch into attacks as well.

You still will ohko with Play rough in return making this a very safe play. Plus you can pressure the Bax player into sacking it in fear of your belly drum, something that cannot be replicated by Choice band
252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Baxcalibur: 384-452 (103.5 - 121.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
