Metagame SV OU Metagame Discussion v4 [PALAFIN RETEST]

An endgame Kingambit capable of using Tera is one of the greatest atrocities of all time.
It's one of the few Pokémon in the tier that can run a decent variety of items, and beyond its raw power, the 50/50 Sucker Punch + the 50/50 x 4/5 viable Tera-types provides an exercise that requires more guesswork than skill or interaction between opponents.

Wow this diagram actually encompasses my feelings very well. I don't consider most of the bottom right to be 'broken' per say but very actively annoying due to a mix of Tera and general structures (Mola not as much tho), but everything else is spot on. Even if I've had to begrudgingly accept that Gambit exists, it still borders on deeply unpleasant to me.

I wouldn't mind a suspect of Kingambit myself. Leaving aside a potential Tera Blast suspect, Kingambit is probably the only mon aside from Kyurem that could get enough support for a suspect test. Although we would have to deal with a huge change in the meta after its ban given Kingambit's role in the meta. It would literally shake the foundations of the meta much like a Zamazenta (I believe the wolf is 100% fair and balanced) ban would.
kingambit has been that mon we all knew was absurd from day 1 but has always been viewed as just barely fine enough to stay. It would have a huge impact on the metagame, but I hardly see that as a bad thing.

there are too many turns of phrase in this post, my bar-puzzle brain is screaming that this has to be a hint
Overflowing pools. Shopping.

Smogon events where they temporarily unban something with no plans of it being permanent starting with the Iron bundle for the season and because no one will push for bundle to actually be Unbanned afterwards but it will give content creators something not stale to talk about. Not off the table from the not a test/retest comment because it's not intentional to actually unban after.

But. It only affects OU so that can't be it either.

And its not us shopping from our overflowing pools of money we make pump and dumping our showdown tied shitcoin. Idk. That would be sweet though.

I don't see that as a bad thing either. Kingambit is a stupidly cheap mon and has an unhealthy effect on the meta with its ridiculous power and priority from Supreme Overlord. Its ability basically makes the entire mon itself a side-grade to Last Respects and Rage Fist by giving Kingambit a boost to all its damaging attacks. If Tera didn't exist, Fighting-type Pokemon might have actually been able to beat it consistently, but it can just Tera out of its typing and check the Fighting-types it faces instead.

Nice.

An OU suspect test of your choice - 500,000 likes (quantity available: the 1)
Can be pooled among as many users as needed to hit 500k. Suspect must be within reasonable tiering practices — i.e: no complex bans — and on something topically relevant in the metagame. Must be approved by @Finchinator and @Ruft, we can provide a list of reasonable options if necessary. Will be launched at the conclusion of the badgeshop, or one week after an ongoing suspect ends, if applicable.

As part of Smogon’s 2024 Likeshop hosted by UT, if the community can pool together 500k likes, then we can have a fun OU suspect within reason — see more in the above quote/corresponding thread

First time I've seen one of these. Is there any place I can ask (be it the shop, here, or another thread) if I have questions about things like pooling or my own count?

Attention: I have officially started the campaign for a Tera Blast Suspect Test. With my own likes we are 0.5% of the way there. Please consider contributing in the thread.

Tera blast is a controversial element that brings back shades of Hidden Power, and a test on this element could notably reduce tera variance to be more restricted by a Pokemon's movepool. No more tera electric DD Kyurem

Tera blast ban could also possibly open up usage of some banned pokemon such as Regieleki

Yeah, just wanted to confirm where to ask if the initial rules post had anything I didn't quite follow (EX: Reaction Score is equivalent to Likes vs excluding things like Angry/Sad/Haha ones that weren't "Like" reactions specifically)

The Suspect one is a funny experiment because of the number of steps it goes through to work: Besides getting everyone to pool behind picking an option, subsequently it'd also have to actually make the 60% threshold to change anything, so raw numbers first and then ratio on the next step.
