Metagame SV OU Metagame Discussion v4 [PALAFIN RETEST]

Because trying a suspect to actually improve the metagame instead of "I'm mad gouging is still here" would be too good of an idea

Ausma told me that Kyurem is in fact planned for a suspect most likely, but gouging fire takes priority over it due to the recent survey. It will be suspected right after most likely so don’t be disappointed as both are planned to get action, the survey just decided which one first. So those who want Kyurem suspected don’t be disappointed because Kyurem is planned to have a suspect after gouging.

That Kyurem suspect won't happen right away unless Gouging Fire avoids the boot as we'd have to wait for the meta to change after Gouging's ban, which is standard tiering protocol.

I know you really hate Kyurem, but you shouldn't start salivating just yet when suspecting Kyurem immediately after a Gouging Fire ban would be deviating from standard tiering protocol.

Additionally, Finchinator already indicated there'd be a playerbase survey in September or early October, which shows there's no time for an immediate Kyurem suspect after the Gouging Fire suspect.

Damn... If only there was a solution for this. I'm completely at a loss for how we'd solve this widespread problem in the meta!

Ban HDB, Defog, and Rapid Spin. We'll solve power creep by making everything switch in with heavy chip, allowing Lokix to ascend from UU and revenge kill everything. I, for one, welcome our first route bug overlord.

Alternately, we can storm Gamefreak headquarters, ship the design team off to the cotton candy mines, and impose some singles-oriented balance changes. Physical Assault Vest would look pretty good as a Great Tusk tech.

Or we can just accept that offensive mons only need one attacking stat, while defensive mons need two (or three, if they want to be bulky on both sides), and move BP has also been slowly but steadily increasing over time, furthering offensive firepower. Gamefreak actively desires VGC to be offensively inclined, and so we should expect that most of the new toys will favor offense. (Cough cough, Booster Energy, cough cough.)

There's also the option of playing lower tiers, which aren't nearly so power crept. If you preferred the power level of SS OU, then give SV UU a try; there's plenty of former OU staples that are viable in the tier.

Lastly, we can reject all of that and insist on a steady, comfortable power level, regardless of which moves, mons, or mechanics we need to ban to accomplish it. It'd require us to abandon all pretense at being the tier that allows the most options while avoiding overcentralization, and inspire a competitor to Smogon's tiering system (or maybe just a new tier?) but it's doable.

or—and hear me out, this is gonna be a jaw-dropper—we could keep doing the shit we're doing, which is working, slowly but surely, to create a power level that the majority of people are comfortable with. and also ban electro shot and free arch

We'll never get to the level you are comfortable with personally though since Kingambit and Ogerpon-Wellspring are not going anywhere unless Zamazenta goes.

future? that must mean you plan to ban glowking

thank fuck man. maybe if we ban gking the game will finally be good

Gouging Fire problem could be rectified if only we had a certain mole that could keep it in and naturally outspeeds :3

we already have a mole pokemon that does exactly that, it's called sand rush excadrill. find a better pokemon to shill buddy

So basically, what you're saying here I should never DM you or offer you anything in good faith, because you will just go against my wishes and instead attempt to humiliate me for it on public forum, and then add fuel to a fire? Like, you realize how this reads to me, right? Honestly, I'll never get this type of thing on any site. I've never posted anything from DMs with people publicly because I assume that when people post things privately, they want it to be private, and I respect that fact. But this isn't the first time this has happened to me on a forum, or at least potential happening in this case I suppose.
What I said here is if you have a solution, DMing it rather than sharing it in the forum feels pointless and I would not leave it in DMs, because that solution proposal is one of the things you're getting grilled for not sharing and now you say you'll share it with individuals but not the conversation that prompted it.

I specifically said I would repost it here BECAUSE you hadn't sent me anything, with the message being "Don't DM me this, I don't want this as a private conversation," because I want you to actually give something for the conversation you sparked about how our Tiering Policy working-as-intended is a problem for a broken metagame. This is not me receiving a message and outing something I think should be private. This is me pre-emptively saying "this is not something to bother DMing me, but I do say you should nut up and post it publicly". Believe what you want to about me, but at this point I'm sick of the martyr complex when you come in, call the tier a disaster, offer no solution, and then act attacked saying you experience anxiety for saying inflammatory stuff and dragging the intended function of the standard procedures.

The topic is long over but I was not leaving the conversation on the exact behavior I called out culminating in an accusation of bad faith behavior from me. I will at most concede it's easy to read it differently than I meant, but at this point I lack sympathy for a behavior you committed to unprompted despite disliking how it feels when you engage this way. Whether or not this is the last word, I wasn't leaving it on the previous message.

Now to see if the GF talk can be more civil than last time.

Why Gouging Fire should not be banned

1- I like Gouging Fire. Its Entei, but better both in design and in battle.
2- Its a dragon. Dragons are cool. Dragons are also checked by other Dragons & by Fairies.
3- Gouging Fire is weak to Stealth Rocks & Spikes. Gouging Fire can easily be defeated.
4- Gouging Fire is low in usage & is only A Ranked.
5- Gouging Fire keeps the meta balanced. Ban Gouging Fire & all hell will break loose in OU.
6- Gouging Fire can be poisoned.
7- Gouging Fire does not have priority.
8- I will stop playing OU if Gouging Fire gets banned.

Thank you reading. Please upvote to save Gouging Fire from being completely unused in Ubers.
