It deserves to be on this site for the following reasons
- Its probably one of the few if not the only pokemon set that fully initialize the ability swarm
- This set allows heracross to deal easily annihilate some of his best counters in the tier like gligar and crobat while retaining all the offensive presence that the other sets provide.
- There is no need to bluff a choiced set thanks to the high usage of scarfs and bands on heracross it also provides huge an element of surprise
- it destroys stalling teams if used right
- pretty enjoyable to use as it can serve multiple roles like wall breaking scouting pseudo sweepind (softing opponents walls like cofagrigus that will try WoW giving a free turn setting up and 2hko it render it useless from stopping a second attempt of heracross sweep )
- It allows you to finish games in the lower ladder a lot faster something extremely helpful especially in a tier known for its heavy stall and long games :)
- Megahorn reaches the awesome BP of 180 when swarm in active and after just one sword dance boost its capable of 1hko anything that doesn't resist while 1hkoing even those pokes that resist it if they don't run an 252/252 physical defensive spread notably it 1hko's spacial defensive Empoleon and 2hkos crobat (with Megahorn) and it beats it if next turn if it decides to go "brave" or to roost off damage
- Moxie and Close combat can be used over swarm and Megahorn
if you hate the low accuracy but the defense drops will put it into an disadvantageous position of being easily revenge killed by common weak priority moves like much/sucker punch from a hitmo the defense drops also allow scarfed mienshao break the sub with u-turn while predicting heracross move and buffering it with the correct switch leaving it exposed it also stops it from completely humiliate Gligar the so called ultimate physical wall of UU (gligar is nothing but a perfect set up fodder for this heracross set since earthq wont break heracros's subs i often boost heracros's attack in the catastrophic level of x4 with this kind of fodder-ing gligars with taunt are rare many times they wont use it against it never expecting me to run sword dance along substitute witch is used only by a tiny %1 me and a few friends of mine lol ) . Moxie helps in situations where you need to get a little boost while keeping offensive pressure without spending a turn to sword dance for example if you need to maximize the kill ratio of stone edge ( aproxx 96%) by double stoning an enemy crobat after the consuption of th berry,or if you just want to preserve the substitute when you know that your opponent has priority like fake out mienshao, moxie can also be used to switch modes in case of emergency simply by well timing a stealth rocks damage that will put heracross into the berry range and simply sweep like it had a choice scarf using the conventional domino effect.
- I got the inspiration for this was the AI pinch berry tactics in the Battle frontier of pokemon Emerald (the best place to make your fist steps into the competitive pokemon battling ) and its since then in my arsenal (6 years) used with great success, notably i peaked in the top 20 of PO UU Ladder in my first day of playing UU only having a short look in the usage rates of that tier i never had the chance to go further in the ladder of UU don't ask why
Team synergy and counters
- Heracross appreciates rain in fact that's where he gets really strong sweeper not only it allows heracross to beat a lot of pokemon in one to one situations like chandelure zaptos and the nindo family that rely on their respectable fire attacks to beat heracross but rain also adds some stalling pokemon like Amoongus and defensive roserade in the list of pokemon that heracross can fodder since they cant anymore break it's subs with hp fire.
- Heracross can be extremely synergistic with the U-turn-pursuit tactic to lure and trap problematic ghost types i personally prefer
u-turn mienshao as a lure for ghost types and krokodile for trapping , i prefer krokodile because ghost types switch out a lot easier against it more than any other dark type in the tier probably fearing a moxie boost after crunch ko it also have a sweet resistance to stealth rocks and a secondary use as late game sweeper. - obviously since heracross has this amazing ability of softing its very own counters it can be used along miensahao since the almost have they share same defensive counters.
- this heracros's set obviously has weaknesses surprisingly different that his conventional set, most notable is the weakness to weak priority moves that are all over the UU metagame like machamp bullet punch ice shards shadow sneak and fake out ,luckily for this set the higher you go in the ladder the less you see those overrated but unneeded priority moves, heracross also hates phrasing moves as they destroy turns of preparation and boosting ,a perfect example of pokemon that combines both priority and phazing is hitmontom and it's naturally one of the best counters of this set especially since it has access intimidate witch Nerf heracross's attacks
- Magnet support can be used as it allows it to break through troublesome steel types like registeel but the presence of steel types in UU is not that strong.
I hope i was analytic enough for the Smogon standards , i tried to be pass a much experience i had with heracross
