SV LC Stray Cat Strut - Meowth Hyper Offense [Peak #1]

Introduction

MK007 here. I've played LC on and off for the past 3 gens, and I'm back with another Meowth Hyper Offense Team in LC. For this team, I thought that it would be fun to lead with Meowth and Tera Normal on Turn 1 every game. The goal was to spam Meowth's already strong Technichian boosted Fake Out + Double Edge, but with the add on of Terastalization boosting the power even further. I climbed to #1 on the ladder relatively quickly with this team, so I figured I would share it in case anyone wants to use it.

Teambuilding Process

:meowth:
As stated previously, my goal was to spam Meowth's normal-type STAB moves so this was a good place to start.

:meowth: :larvesta:
I also really wanted to run bulky larvesta. This can blanket check many physical attackers in the tier, and help get meowth in with a slow (13 speed) U-turn.

:meowth: :vullaby: :larvesta: :squirtle: :foongus:
Since I was running Larvesta I added dedicated hazard removal with bulky Squirtle and defog Vullaby. This gives me multiple chances to get rid of hazards. With Squirtle and Larvesta completing 2/3 of a defensive FWG core, I added Foongus to complete it.

:meowth: :vullaby: :larvesta: :squirtle: :foongus: :diglett-alola:
For the last slot I initially started with Mudbray, but eventually ended up going with Diglett-Alola. The reason for Diglett-Alola is to help stop setup sweepers that use Tera Ghost such as Shellder, Vullaby, and Magby. These threats give the team fits and cannot be revenged with Fake Out. Diglett-Alola lets me have a sucker punch user to help deal with these threats. Additionally, Air Balloon Diglett-Alola lets me hard switch into Glimmett without worrying about Mud Shot. Glimmett was a real problem for this team before I added Diglett-Alola, and still is, but is far less of a problem than it used to be. Additionally, Diglett-Alola gives me multiple type immunities with Ground/Steel typing which can also be useful for cheesing some extra value in specific scenarios.

The Team
:sv/meowth: :Life Orb:
Ability: Technician
Level: 5
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 236 Atk / 36 SpD / 196 Spe
Lonely Nature
IVs: 19 HP
- Fake Out
- Double-Edge
- Feint
- Knock Off

Meowth is the offensive engine of the team. Tera boosted Fake Out + Double-Edge kills a surprisingly high amount of common mons in the tier such as Mienfoo, Foongus, and Mareanie. You do die to recoil from Life Orb and Double-Edge eventually, but usually if you get to that point the value that you got out of Meowth already will mean you're in a favorable position to win with the rest of the team. 19HP IVs cut meowth's HP from 20 to 19 so Life Orb Recoil is only 1HP.

:sv/vullaby: :Eviolite:
Ability: Weak Armor
Level: 5
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 236 Atk / 76 Def / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Knock Off
- Defog
- U-turn

Vullaby is practically mandatory on any team in LC, and this one is no exception. This is essentially the standard physical vull set, with one exception. I am choosing to run Defog > Roost since I am running a Larvesta. U-turn could probably be dropped for Roost but I prefer the ability to potentially bring Meowth in safely with a U-turn which has happened many times.

:sv/larvesta: :Eviolite:
Ability: Flame Body
Level: 5
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 76 HP / 236 Def / 156 SpD / 36 Spe
Impish Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Morning Sun

Larvesta is the backbone of the team. It's a blanket answer to physical attackers such as Mienfoo, Grookey, and Tinkatink, has solid staying power with Morning Sun, 120BP physical STAB with Flare Blitz, and the ability to U-turn out to bring Meowth in safely or to pivot to another situational pick. Larvesta has won me so many games by itself due to how many teams in LC are unprepared for it. In this era where Onix and Diglett do not exist, Larvesta can really shine. I am running 23HP/16DEF to really make Larvesta a bother for physical attackers.

:sv/squirtle: :Eviolite:
Ability: Torrent
Level: 5
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 164 HP / 212 Atk / 76 Def / 4 SpD / 12 Spe
Impish Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Wave Crash
- Flip Turn
- Aqua Jet

Squirtle plays two big roles and one small role for this team. The two big roles are spinning away hazards and being part of the defensive FWG core. The small role is having a small amount of offensive presence with Wave Crash doing a surprising amount of damage, Flip Turn allowing for easy pivoting, and Aqua Jet giving the team a 3rd form of priority outside of Meowth and Diglett-Alola. Wave Crash can do a surprising amount of damage, especially when Torrent boosted but Squirtle's bread and butter on this team is to be another stubborn Physical Wall. I am running 23HP/15DEF right now which really lets it stick around longer than it should.

:sv/foongus: :Eviolite:
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 5
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 44 HP / 236 Def / 156 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Synthesis

This is a standard Foongus set for SV. There isn't too much to say about Foongus that hasn't been said 1000 times over in the past. Regenerator lets it hang around a while, it functions as a secondary check to fighters such as Mienfoo if for some reason my Larvesta isn't up, and can take out certain mons with Spore. I have been surprised by how many games have come down to Foongus being the last mon standing and securing a win. It does a lot to help glue this team together and is easy to find all-around value with, much like Vullaby.

:sv/diglett-alola: :Air Balloon:
Ability: Tangling Hair
Level: 5
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 36 Def / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Sucker Punch
- Rock Blast
- Substitute

Diglett-Alola offers so much more role compression for this team than I ever thought it would. Revenging Tera-Ghost users and the rare Drifloon with Sucker Punch is almost mandatory when so many teams click Tera-Ghost vs Meowth. Edgequake coverage is always useful, especially with how fast Diglett-A is. Air Balloon lets Diglet-Alola switch into Glimmett which is extremely annoying for this team as it is a very capable rocksetter and makes Larvesta unusable if you don't deal with it immediately. Physically Defensive Squirtle and Vullaby both don't like coming in on Glimmett, which is where Diglett fits right into the team. As previously mentioned, you also get a poison immunity and an electric immunity due to Diglett-A's typing. The poison immunity has come in useful more times than I thought it would in Foongus vs Foongus sludge bomb spams. You can try your luck at switching into chinchou volt switches when you see them to gain some momentum, but it is a 50/50. Overall Diglett-Alola covers some crucial flaws for this team against specific matchups that I don't think any other mon in the tier can. I've tried Pawniard and Mudbray, and each had flaws that Diglett-Alola just doesn't.
