Steel-offensive-defensive-team-thing

Hey everybody! I'm new at the whole competitive side of pokemon, and I tried to make a good OU team, but I think it could use some help. I'm trying to go for a offensive team, but one that has good resistance and def to keep my pokes alive longer. And for some reason, I put three steel types in the mix XD.

i chose f-lass as my lead because I needed a entry hazard dropper that could lay the hazard without the worry of a rapid spin. I gave it destiny bond so it can remove the opposing pokemon early on; and because f-lass isn't so resiliant. This is also why I have taunt; so that i can force the opponent to fall for destiny bond.

Metagross @ Life Orb
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 228 Def / 28 Spd
Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)
- Meteor Mash
- Ice Punch
- Bullet Punch
- Hammer Arm

Metagross is not only one of my fav pokes, but it can hit hard and have quality def because of his steel-typing. I use a combination of hammer arm + bullet punch so i can reverse the negative effects of the speed draining hammer arm. meteor mash is just the signature meta-move, and it increases meta's attack so i can use hammer arm + bullet punch more effectively.

Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 232 SAtk / 24 Spd
Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def)
- Giga Drain
- Psychic
- U-turn
- Thunder Wave

Celebi is one of my SpAttackers, having coverage of pokemon that are bulked in def and not SpDef. Also, i can add paralysis to a poke, then switch effectively to a stronger poke such as meta or thunderous-t with u-turn.

Thundurus-T (M) @ Electric Gem
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Charge Beam

Thundurus-t is my major SpAttacker. I can effectively use the unreliable Charge beam to increase my SpA, and if that fails, t-t's electric gem will power up charge beam so it won't be a wasted move. after this, i can use nasty plot to further increase SpA, then blast 'em with a thunderbolt. And, I have coverage of steel and rock types with focus blast.

- Earthquake

Ah, forretress. The pokemon that evaded me for 4 generations. Now, i harness the power of the metal bagworm, using rapid spin to remove entry hazards and toxic spikes to add another hazard. Earthquake for getting rid of rock & ground types, and volt switch for easy retreats and water coverage.

Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 36 HP / 252 SAtk / 220 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

- Signal Beam

And finally, Magnezone! This is my revenge killer, although that role was sort of moved to Thundurus-t. I have signal beam to cover psychic types, which wasn't really covered by the rest of the team. I have the rarely-used tri attack to get the occational added effect, but I have that slot up for grabs. i have flash cannon for STAB, and HP Fire for extra coverage.

I know my team has a big-time fire weakness, so maybe you guys can help me with that, I have a few ideas, but I don't think I can effectively use them. Thanks!
 
Not so sure how I feel about your Thunderus set. NP and Charge Beam seem a little redundant, as does Electric Gem and Charge Beam. Maybe replace his item with Life Orb, and throw HP ice in there for coverage instead of Charge Beam?

Also, 5 of your pokes are weak to Fire, and the 6th is incredibly frail. You may want to think about some different team members. You also only have one physical attacker, not including Forretress, because you really should not rely on him to do much more than set up hazards and spin things away.
Consider replacing a special attacker with a pokemon that resists Fire type moves and is more physically oriented. Gyarados is one of my all time personal favorites, and is horrifying once it's set up.
Replace Tri-attack with T-bolt on Magnezone if you're dead set on running it, but at least one of the steels on your team should take a hike.
All in all, you should probably totally replace at least 2 of the guys on this team if you want to have a shot at winning a competitive battle against someone who know what they're doing. Make a more balanced team with better synergy, meaning your pokemon all have types that cover each others' weaknesses and gives them opportunities to switch in. Having 5 pokemon weak to fire in a tier heavily populated by Fire types and Fire type moves is never a good idea.
 
Hey there, Blueman900, that's quite the creative weather team you have posted on these forums. Weatherless isn't really that hard to pull off, but it still requires some sort of teambuilding skill. As I look over your team, I see a whole lot of holes that it has, and I shall help patch up these holes to the best of my ability. To kick things off before I start rating, I shall suggest some EV and moveset changes as is my custom. Keep in mind that you must take these changes into some consideration and test them out before implementing them on this thread. So, without further ado, I shall start rating. Alrighty, first up we have our blue metal killing machine, Metagross. I would recommend changing him to an Offensive Stealth Rock set over your current one. With the aftermentioned set, Metagross can deal a huge amount of damage while also laying the most important hazard in the game today, Stealth Rock. Metagross is further aided with Froslass using Spikes to wear down the opponent. Moving on to the grass pixie Celebi, you should change his set to an Offensive Life Orb variant over your current one. This set helps Celebi deal a lot of damage with just two coverage moves and it is also bulky enough to take on a plethora of hits. Moving on to the mystic genie that is Thundurus-T, Charge Beam isn't really necessary, as Nasty Plot raises his Special Attack through the roof, so I recommend changing that to HP Ice in order to hit Gliscor and Landorus. I also suggest using a Life Orb over Electric Gem to help him deal some real enormous damage. On Forretress, you have 80 Speed EV's, which is practically useless, so you should transfer them over to Special Defense (Speed is Spd and Special Defense is SpD for future reference). Also on Forretress, you should give it 0 IVs for speed and replace Earthquake with Gyro Ball to hit Terrakion and some other rock types that may be lurking in OU. Last, but certianly not least, we have our friend Magnezone. If Magnezone is going to be doing any revenge killing, it is begging for a Choice Scarf set over your current one. The Scarf set allows Magnezone to take advantage of its lackluster speed and get some revenge kills in. Well, that'ss all I have to say for now. I really hope that my advice helped. I wouldn't recommend a scarf Magnezone set, as it is outsped and basically outclassed by Choice scarf Magneton.
If you aren't looking to run a Choice scarf variant, Sub charge beam can be infuriating if you switch it in on the right thing (No one running a Ferrothorn on their team will want to battle you.) Sub 3 attacks besides charge beam is another good way to ensure you have a sub up after taking out a trapped steel type.
From what I read, though, trapping isn't even a priority of yours. Magnet Pull is one of the only reasons to run Magnezone over faster, stronger electric types. Considering the fact that you already have a stronger, faster, electric type I would recommend completely removing it in favor of a physically offensive poke that resists the Fire type moves that your team can't stomach.
Also, it seems you want to use your Celebi in more of a supporting role with T-wave and U-turn. Change your Forretress to a Specially bulky one, and run Defensive Celebi instead of that strange creature you have conceived. Or, instead of having two walls that are weak to fire, you could replace Celebi with something else that resists fire. There are plenty of bulky water type pokes that would fit here. Possibly Rotom-W with T-Wave as well, and Volt switch to act like U-turn did on your Celebi?
Just a few thoughts I guess but they're all pretty valid.
 
As a matter of fact, Scarf Magnezone is quite a viable option. I used one in one of my best teams, (not posted on smogon) and it can be quite the threat. Magnezone has a much higher special attack stat that lets it fire off a lot more powerful attacks. Scarf Magnzeone also only gets outsped by threats with 361 speed and above, and I doubt that those Pokemon such as Starmie will be able to completely wreck Magnezone. The only thing I can really think of that can outspeed Scarf Magnezone and pose a threat to it is Tornadus-T with Focus Blast/Superpower. However, I do agree with the above user that fire types can cause major problems for this team, so I suggest you fix that by putting in something like Jellicent. Also, I suggest replacing Meteor Mash with Earthquake on Metagross, or as mentioned above, to change the set to the SR set. I reccomend the SR set because it lets you use arguably one of the most useful moves in the game (stealth rock) as well as giving you more of a reason to use Jellicent (Spinblocker). Your fire type weakness to major common threats such as Heatran punishes 4 Pokemon on your team, 3 if you replace one with Jellicent or something. Therefore, you should be a little more prepared for the occasion. The rest of my suggestions have already been stated, so nothing else from me. Hope I helped, and good luck! Btw, welcome to smogon!
