Hello people of smogon, I have made a pretty strong team that I would like to share with you. It’s a team centered around Volcanion + Weavile + Zamazenta. A short summary of the team : Volcanion and Weavile chips down bulky waters and overall mons that Zamazenta has trouble breaking through with body press. Here is the link to the team: https://pokepast.es/f70418cc23880634
Description of Roles and Sets
Volcanion @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Water Absorb
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 Spe
Modest Nature
- Steam Eruption
- Flamethrower
- Fire Spin
- Taunt
Volcanion is an extremely strong stall breaker / breaker, and his bulk allows him to live powerful hits from Pokémon like Ogerpon Wellspring and Darkrai. Volcanion also shares a pretty nice ability with Ogerpon Wellspring ; Water Absorb. This allows Volcanion to muscle past the likes of Alomomola or Dondozo that would otherwise 1v1 Volcanion. I am running a trapping set using Fire Spin + Taunt with Tera Ghost to trap and kill Dondozo, Alomomola and Blissey, mons that are Gen 9 Staples for Stall and Fat. Tera Ghost helps give Volcanion an immunity to blissey’s seismic toss and dondozo’s uncommon body press.
Weavile @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Triple Axel
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard
- Low Kick
Weavile is a Pokémon that benefits heavily from the removal of bulky waters like Dondozo and Alomomola, as they can use Weavile as setup fodder or as a free pivot into another Pokémon. I added Weavile because it synergies well with Volcanion. Volcanion as a Pokémon is prone to dragon types, like Roaring Moon and Raging Bolt. That’s why the standard set usually has Tera blast fairy, but this set doesn’t. I added Weavile because it DESTROYS dragons. Triple Axle can kill almost any dragon type if it lands a full 3 hits, and ice shard helps pick up KO’s on dragons can’t be outsped but are already chipped down. I am using knock off as STAB, (it’s also just really good) and am using Low Kick so I can hit Kyurem and Kingambit for more damage, two Pokémon that would otherwise use Weavile as Setup Fodder. The reason why I am using a Choice Band is because it offers more breaking potential. Tera Ice also helps me get surprise KO’s or two shots. I was also not planning on using Weavile as a sweeper, thanks to…
Zamazenta @ Leftovers
Ability: Dauntless Shield
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 104 HP / 252 Def / 152 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Crunch
- Roar
As most of you probably know, Zamazenta is annoyingly good as a sweeper. I added Zamazenta onto this team because like Weavile, it benefits heavily from the removal of Dondozo and Alomomola. (Some of its other checks are Skarmory, Moltres, Corviknight, Dragapult, Gholdengo, Slowking Galar, etc. Weavile and Volcanion deal with all of them though) Zamazenta is the perfect sweeper for this team, it has high speed and bulk, it can kill it’s chipped checks pretty easily, and most importantly, it can revenge kill other sweepers thanks to its bulk. Zamazenta is going to be a late game sweeper, so it’s important that it is not brought out early. Roar + Crunch are there so it can 1v1 psychic and ghost Pokémon, and faze out opposing sweepers that can threaten the game. Tera Fire is so I don’t get burnt by Moltres.
Ting-Lu @ Leftovers
Ability: Vessel of Ruin
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Whirlwind
- Ruination
Since my offensive core was complete, I needed a defensive backbone. I noticed that my team was actually pretty weak to dragapult, despite having Weavile. I also lacked a stealth rocker, and thought that additional fazing would help in the case that Zamazenta dies early (somehow). I also noticed that Tera Ghost kingambit was a threat to this team, so Ting-Lu was the perfect Pokémon to add. Due to its typing and ability, it can switch in on most dragapult (despite the fact that burn annoys it) and can get Stealth Rock up on it. Whirlwind helps me vs sweepers that Zamazenta would die to on the spot, and also forces out Tera Ghost Kingambit. I have ruination to punish common Ting-Lu switchins, it also helps me damage Kingambit in the case I am burnt and EQ doesn’t do enough. Tera Poison is to resist Fairy Types.
Corviknight @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Brave Bird
- Defog
- U-turn
- Roost
I added Corviknight mainly as a wall that can defog off hazards and tank hits from Pokémon that would hurt Ting-Lu. Corviknight can check Pokémon like Ogerpon-Wellspring and non specs Kyurem. Defog was used to take hazards off for Weavile and Zamazenta, also for Volcanion if its boots are knocked off. I have U-Turn to pivot into my breakers and roost to keep my corviknight healthy. I never mentioned items a lot in this thread, but you can also use Rocky Helmet here if you want to, I just prefer leftovers for health regeneration. I have Brave Bird over body press because of STAB, it also forces Ogerpon-Wellspring out, I dislike body press because it doesn’t deal enough damage to Ogerpon-Wellspring. Tera Dragon is to resist water, fire and electric attacks.
Weezing-Galar @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Neutralizing Gas
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 HP / 64 Def / 16 SpA / 176 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Strange Steam
- Defog
- Pain Split
- Will-O-Wisp
Weezing-Galar is almost considered like the glue to my defensive core. This Pokémon is incredible, it does not get enough usage for what it can do. I added this Pokémon mainly as a niche check to Kingambit, and also to help vs hazards and iron valiant, but this Pokémon did much more. Thanks to its ability, Weezing-Galar can bypass abilities like good as gold, supreme overlord and purifying salt. This means that Weezing-Galar can defog threatening hazards off the field, even if Gholdengo is in the field. It can Will-O-Wisp Gholdengo, and go through Gargancl’s Purfiying Salt and burn in too, which would be devastating on a Garagncl. This Pokémon also invalidates regenerator Pokémon to get back health, and racks up toxic DAMAGE on Gliscor. While the EVs on this Weezing Galar are a bit strange, they have a purpose. 252 HP is all for bulk, and 64 in defense is also for bulk. I ended up having 176 in speed, which is enough to hit 200 speed, 1 point above the max speed of an Adamant Kingambit, which was STILL threatening to this team. I am running the 16 in SPA just because of the analysis set, but you can just put them into defence if you think they are useless. I am running Pain Split to recover Health, and Strange Steam as a stab move that beats Valiant. Tera Flying is for an immunity to ground moves.
Sorry For Yapping
This Was My First RMT
Hope you guys use the team and Enjoy, I accept all criticism, and I actually encourage it. I would love for this team to be improved.
Here is the link for the team once again, if you missed it: https://pokepast.es/f70418cc23880634
Also sorry I don’t know how to add mini sprites so this RMT is really bland! :)
