Ceaseless Edge the signature move of Hisuian-Samurott has been an influential force within STABmons since the release of Pokemon HOME due its ability to both attack and setup hazards in one neat package. Its primary user is without a doubt Ting-Lu who is a mainstay of the OM alongside other users such as Tyranitar and occasional usage on more offensive orientated Pokemon such as Weavile, Darkrai, and Kingambit. Its ability to both setup hazards whilst dealing damage is the crux of what makes it so influential, for it does not lose momentum unlike normal hazard setting moves which require sacrificing a turn to establish hazards and with the case of Spikes specifically requires a whole 3 turns of no damage, just hazard stacking. With Ceaseless Edge the user is making progress in some form or another, yet another component that one has to consider is that removing hazards is usually a net loss of momentum, considering most teams are capable of blocking Mortal Spin, and until recently, having Rapid Spin and Defog blocked by Gholdengo meant that actually removing the hazards was quite difficult without some serious sacrifices.
This all being said, it isn't as though there are no ways of removing hazards or punishing the abusers of the move itself, as for the most part it is Ting-Lu who is using the move and as a result it is predictable. From defensive Landorus-Therians, Corviknights, and Skarmory using Beak Blast to punish Ceaseless Edge spam forcing it to take a burn or run a niche item in Protective Pads to the simple fact that STABmons is one of the tiers where hazard clearing is fairly abundant, meaning you don't have to look far for potential hazard clearing Pokemon. With the recent banning of Gholdengo it is unknown whether Ceaseless Edge will persist as a common point of complaint, and as such this suspect test is looking to find out whether it deserves to be restricted.
Requirements:
Requirements can be achieved by getting minimum 75 GXE in 25 games on the STABmons ladder. In order to participate in the suspect, you must create a fresh alt (creation date no earlier than 8/26/2024) with the prefix STBCE at the start of the name. When you have obtained the reqs, make sure to post proof of your alt's record (generally a screenshot) in this thread, and if you wish to do so, you can also share your thoughts on the test here.
Voting:
Once the suspect period is over, everyone who has obtained reqs will be tagged. The post will then outline a process of blind voting, which will be clarified once the time arrives. For now, follow the above "Requirements" subheading to ensure that you have posted your reqs correctly. You must post on this thread in order to be tagged in the voting thread, however you do not need to include your vote on this thread.
A super-majority of 60% restrict votes is required for Ceaseless Edge to be restricted.
TL;DR
- Ceaseless Edge will be allowed on ladder
- The minimum GXE requirement is 75 and the minimum game count is 25
- You must ladder on a newly-created alt using the prefix STBCE
- You must post your reqs in this thread, though the voting process will happen in a separate thread. You are not required to state your vote in this thread.
- The suspect test will conclude at 9/9/2024 at 11:59 PM GMT-5
- A restrict vote of 60% is required to restrict Ceaseless Edge in STABmons.
