Tournaments SSPL II - Finalissima

I would be lying to say that I did not dream of lifting the trophy when I signed up to manage, but actually doing it feels surreal - this is the first PL that I've participated in (as either a player or manager) and my only other experience with managing came from DLWC earlier this year.

The road to winning this tournament was certainly bumpy as we struggled to separate ourselves from our opponents throughout the regular season (our differential was a paltry +1) due to a multitude of issues, and our situation hardly improved with our co-manager being permabanned from the site in the middle of the semifinals, but the resilience that kept us in weeks that we should have lost during the regular season really kicked in and we somehow dominated the best two teams in the league en route to the title! This would have been impossible if the players we had did not possess the profile required to rise when the stakes are high - your meticulousness in prep, skill in battle and resilience in face of adversity was what made you champions. I hope to see you guys in future tournaments, and please select these players if any prospective managers are reading this as they can be wonderful contributors to teams aspiring to win the final prize.
Akaru Kokuyo - the LeBron of this team. Every single game that you played was important due to how our weeks shook out and you only dropped one game! Enjoy the 8-1 record (probably the best this tournament has ever seen) and trophy before you play for us again next year GOAT View attachment wigmae.webp

GoldCat - definition of a professional, never really stuck around for chatting in the server but always read the scouts and prepared accordingly en route to the best RU record in the league this year. Thanks for being a consistent force for us throughout the campaign :sphearical:

Skyrio - you were definitely unfortunate to not have logged in a dominant record this year due to hax, but hey you haxed the opponent when it mattered the most :psysly:. Good luck in Masters!

Micciu - same thing, luck wasn't in your favour this year but you came up big for us when it mattered, and a 4-4 record isn't the end of the world :woop:

Gondra - thanks for playing so many games despite expecting to be a substitute lol, you ended up being one of our main OU players and got a positive record with some huge wins along the way. Enjoy the CA!

Wadley - really happy that you fought back after a mixed start, you have the quality and definitely deserve a spot on the biggest stage as a lower tier player :tyke:

SEROO - probably the best 3k buy ever LOL, the way you filled in for multiple tiers against some of the best lower tier players on the site was incredibly admirable, thanks for always being available and helping out with prep too!

Irene / I hope that you are happy to see that we won the tournament in the end. Thanks for being supportive in the weeks you were here and putting up a respectable display on the field as well.

tier - things might not worked out in PU but that OU comeback was legendary - a few details in your favour and you would have had a perfect playoff record against SPL level players. Thanks for coming back to save the team in the playoffs as both an OU sub and helper for PU!

Elfuseon - not your best display ever, but all of your wins were pivotal in our fight for a playoff spot, and you were a great team presence as well. Please consider finding a religion of your choice to improve your luck :psycry:

Fc - your season was definitely a bit disappointing, but I appreciate how you kept on plugging away and got us important wins while supporting us in multiple tiers as the season progressed. Goes to show how valuable you can still be even when you aren't always getting it done in battle :psyglad:

Mimikyu Stardust - choking badly in a winning position during the regular season before going perfect in the playoffs when the CA was in reach is such a classic Mimikyu Stardust run. Thanks for being a good friend and stepping up when we needed you the most View attachment wigdeter.webp

Joya - it sucks to see you sidelined by illness, but you were instrumental in helping our best OU player prep and took on a managerial role for us in the playoffs after Irene's ban when Skyrio had an emergency in real life. You were more valuable than you think, don't feel bad about this run

AIRedzone - thank you so much for helping out Akaru in DOU despite not being drafted. Your support was fantastic and you absolutely deserve to be picked in the future, I'm sorry for not doing so this year :psysad:

lolebruh GOATed support in the finals king :tyke:
Big thank you to the hosts for making sure that this tournament was held smoothly. The tournament didn't start off well but you guys did fantastically to recover from that - there weren't really any notable issues during the tournament and the host team deserves all the credit in the world for working behind the scenes so everyone else can have a great time.

I would also like to address the wider community in this post and how generation 8 metagames can move forward as an oldgen. I was certainly glad to see so many users say that they care about SS metagames in their managerial signup posts, but as Amaranth said in his post, the community can't get itself back on track with only words - I hope that everyone who hopes to see generation 8 thrive on Smogon can help make this a reality by helping out with the numerous projects that are being run to improve the state of generation 8 singles, such as sample teams, viability rankings (PM me any sample/personal ranking submissions if you're interested in contributing) and analyses. I would like to see top players who have been on record expressing their fondness for the tier to contribute in any way they can - e.g. Ox the Fox bbeeaa if you two can spend an hour on Discord criticising the subforum's resources for SS OU, please grace us with your expertise by submitting teams and personal rankings of your own to improve these resources :tyke:.

Thanks to anyone who reads this, and I wish you all a wonderful day. I hope I can see you guys playing in tournaments involving the tier in the future!
