Resource SS CAP Role Compendium

Approved by snake_rattler
Special thanks to BP for helping with the OP

The idea of this thread is to provide a visual list of what Pokémon does what in the SS CAP metagame. This will help new and experienced players alike in finding Pokémon that fit their teams when looking for specific roles, as well as help players build more diverse teams by not always using the same Pokémon to fill the same role. Each Pokemon that are on here are on here based on their viability in the CAP metagame and their performance of generic or specific (niche, if you will) roles that benefit your team. If you feel there is a Pokemon viable for the roles mentioned below and it hasn't been added to the group, recommend it in your post.

Pokemon are listed in alphabetical order. More niche Pokemon (either Ranked C on the Viability Ranks or those appearing in a role that is not one of their main ones) are separated by a vertical bar.

For those who do not understand what the terminology such as Wallbreaker and Pivot mean: http://www.smogon.com/dp/articles/pokemon_dictionary

How is Torkoal not niche

Usually dedicated weather teams want to run 2 weather setters. For example rain runs Pelipper and than a Rain Dance users such as Ludicolo. On sun for example we have the opportunity to run 2 Drought users those being Jumbao and Torkoal. Torkoal is strictly better than Ninetales in this case because of its access to Stealth Rock which provides any Sun team with a lot of role compression.

Haem ok... But it's a plus if your weather setters ends up being good. Jumbao is a sun setter that happens to be good. Torkoal is very bad (no healing, average/low offensive potential, slow). Also even full rain or full sun don't really need 2 setters, it's pretty rare since that archetype exists.

As a general rule, Pokemon marked as niche are those ranked as C on the VR, or those that appear somewhere that is not their main role (such as Toxic Spikes Pajantom). As Torkoal is currently B- it doesn't fall under the niche category. I've updated the OP to make that rule clearer.

I've also separated pivots, putting the offensive ones on offensive roles, because their previous placement was somewhat misleading. Thanks to Jordy for the suggestion.
