Project SS AG Victim of the Week - Week 8: Zekrom

Art Coming Soon

Welcome to the AG iteration of Victim of the Week. Hopefully this project will help gather information and spread knowledge of checks and counters to popular Pokemon in the tier.

How it works
Each week I will nominate a Pokemon as VotW. You guys will need to nominate a Pokemon to either check or counter the VotW (make sure to state which in post).
The submission phase will last 5 days and the voting phase will last 2 days each cycle.
The "Hall of Fame" will be a ladder system with the winner getting 3 points each week, 2nd place getting 2, and 3rd place getting 1. Plus your sets will be archived.

Rules
1. Follow the definitions for checks and counters in The Smog issue #32.
2. Please make sure to explain the set. Doesn't need to be long just make sure people know why its a check / counter. Preferably with calcs
3. Reservations only last 12 hours, don't john.
4. Different sets of the same Pokemon can be nominated.
5. Don't be toxic, if someone posts a 'bad' set help them out instead of flaming.
6. Make sure Pokemon is on the VR or a viable niche
7. Do not vote for yourself
8. You can only submit one set per week

The First victim of the week is: Calyrex-Shadow

calyrex-shadow.gif

Calyrex-Shadow @ Life Orb
Ability: As One (Spectrier)
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Astral Barrage
- Psyshock
- Draining Kiss

Calyrex shadow is the strongest pokemon released in the new crowned tundra dlc, with a blazing 150 base speed it outspeeds almost everything and an insane 165 special attack with an ability that boosts special attack every time it gets a kill makes it easy to snowball through teams.

We need to find check and counters to this thing fast!

[submission phase ends Saturday January 23rd]

Reserving yveltal

Yveltal @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Dark Aura
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Foul Play
- Defog
- Roost

This yveltal set 1v1s every caly set there is, even on sets like this with draining kiss and life orb its not enough to KO yvel ( +2 252 SpA Life Orb Calyrex-Shadow Draining Kiss vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Yveltal: 250-294 (54.8 - 64.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO ) meanwhile you always ohko back (0 Atk Dark Aura Yveltal Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Calyrex-Shadow: 852-1008 (249.8 - 295.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO), of course if your yveltal is chipped enough or the opposing caly is set up alot it will beat you but realistically that should never happen

:tyranitar:
Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Rest
- Snarl
- Thunder Wave

In my belief, Tyranitar is the second best calyrex check, only really behind yveltal. Calyrex can only hit tyranitar with a pollen puff and leaf storm, while Tyranitar can hit with a super effective and a special attack lowering snarl, which also beats sub leech variants. tyranitar may also defensively dynamax against calyrex, allowing it to easily eat up calyrex's hits and ohko back with a very powerful max darkness.

:marshadow: Sash marshadow is probably the 2nd best way to deal with caly shadow, Spectral thief is guaranteed an ohko no matter what, and it goes through substitute, and if its a sash caly shadow follow up with a shadow sneak. Realistically the only way that a Caly Shadow can beat it is by using dynamax with a psychic move to get psychic terrain.

Marshadow @ Focus Sash
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Shadow Sneak
- Spectral Thief
- Rock Tomb
- Close Combat

:yveltal:
Yveltal @ Life Orb
Ability: Dark Aura
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tailwind
- Dark Pulse / Sucker Punch
- Oblivion Wing
- Shadow Ball

honestly my opinion is that an offensive yveltal can check calyrex shadow. tailwind for increasing speed, a guaranteed ohko with either dark pulse or sucker punch or shadow ball plus oblivion wing.

:ditto:
Ditto @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Imposter
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 30 Atk
- Transform

Ditto can easily destroy calyrex shadow. Usually, you switch into ditto right after one of your mons die meaning that you get a nice boost when u switch into ditto allowing you to destroy calyrex shadow using astral barrage. This is basically the best way to deal with calyrex shadow because you kill the calyrex and you become a calyrex and most likely have a boost.

:ss/kyogre:
Kyogre @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Water Spout
- Origin Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Thunder

With a Choice Scarf, Kyogre is capable of outspeeding and revenge killing Calyrex-S with a powerful Water Spout or Origin Pulse under rain. With full health, Kyogre can also 2HKO a Dynamaxed Calyrex-S. The opponent can also switch into a Kyogre check like Eternatus or Ferrothorn, which its teammates can take advantage of.

:Regieleki:
Regieleki @ Life Orb
Ability: Transistor
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Assurance
- Wild Charge
- Rapid Spin
- Explosion

Regieleki's ludicrous speed allows it to go first against Calyrex-Shadow, and it can OHKO with Assurance. While it's very frail and therefore difficult to switch in, it can make use of useful teammates, such as Teleport Chansey. It can also lure Dynamax, and the user can switch out to a specially defensive mon like Yveltal or Tyranitar.

Yveltal
Yveltal @ Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: Dark Aura
EVs: 252 Hp / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Snarl
- Sucker Punch
- Defog
- Roost

Snarl ignoring substitute is very threatening to Calyrex-Shadow on its own. Adding to that, its secondary effect lowering Target's Special Attack Stat by 1 stage also threatens its common check Xerneas and also special attackers like Eternatus on switch in.Sucker punch allows it to move before faster opponents provided they choose to attack which could be very useful on heavily boosted pokemons with low Hp remaining. Both Snarl and Sucker Punch OHKO non-dynamaxed Calyrex-Shadow. Its Hp and SpD investment allows it to take 3 Draining kisses from Calyrex-Shadow.Roost and Defog help Yveltal to stay in the long run.

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
- Foul Play

252 SpA Life Orb Calyrex-Shadow Draining Kiss vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 101-122 (25.6 - 30.9%) -- 99.5% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Calyrex-Shadow Draining Kiss vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 205-242 (52 - 61.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
0- Atk Umbreon Foul Play vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Calyrex-Shadow: 388-460 (113.7 - 134.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Although not as offensively threatening as Tyranitar or Yveltal, Umbreon can serve as a solid switch in to Calyrex-S. Umbreon cannot be 3hko'd on switch in by Draining Kiss even with rocks up , and even if Calyrex plots on the switch, Umbreon still avoids a ohko by Draining Kiss. In return, Umbreon threatens an ohko itself with Foul Play. This forces the Calyrex user to either use their Dynamax to remove Umbreon or switch out, allowing Umbreon to heal up itself or a teammate with Wish.

1. Frozoid
2.Pannuracotta
3.Frito135

DON'T VOTE FOR YOURSELF

Sorry for waiting so long to do week 2

The winner of week one is Frozoid With his Special Defensive Yveltal :Yveltal:

The Second Victim of the week is: Groudon
groudon.gif

Groudon @ Life Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Precipice Blades
- Stone Edge
- Aerial Ace

Although Groudon Didn't do that well in ag snake, it is still an incredibly dangerous threat.
Groudon gets access to max airstream via Aerial Ace which allows it to boost its own speed
and with an incredible attack stat and ground/rock coverage it is very difficult to stop after
it sets up a swords dance.

Post your checks and counters below

:ss/kyogre:
Kyogre @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Water Spout
- Origin Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Thunder
Kyogre is one of the best checks against Groudon. Using water sprout it can easily kill this mon wether Groudon is in dyna or wether it is not in dyna.
252 SpA Kyogre Water Spout (150 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Dynamax Groudon in Rain: 894-1052 (131 - 154.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Kyogre Water Spout (150 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Dynamax Groudon in Sun: 296-350 (43.4 - 51.3%) -- 6.6% chance to 2HKO
From these calcs you can easily assume that Groudon will die without Dyna whether it is in rain or sun. When Groudon is in Dyna, assuming Kyogre is a switch in and it most likely will be you are guaranteed to kill Groudon. If sun is out then you have a very high chance of killing Groudon but there is that extremely small chance that you won't. Kyogre can also switch in against Groudon because it will be using Sword Dance therefore you will have full health while attacking allowing you to maximize your water sprout power. There is also no risk of a speed tie because you are scarf therefore you will always go first. So in total, Kyogre is guaranteed to go first and will kill the Groudon if it is not in Dyna, if it is you have a very high chance of killing it in sun and are guaranteed to kill it in rain.

:Bronzong:

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Toxic
- Grass Knot
- Rest/Stealth Rock
- Protect
Bronzong is able to wall all of Groudon's attacks, notably not getting 2HKOed by Max Rockfall or Max Airstream. Additionally, it can stall with Toxic and Protect and chip Groudon with Grass Knot. However, its lack of reliable recovery means it won't be able to outlast Groudon without Protect.

+2 252 Atk Life Orb Groudon Max Rockfall vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Bronzong: 133-156 (39.3 - 46.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Groudon Max Airstream vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Bronzong: 112-133 (33.1 - 39.3%) -- 99.9% chance to 3HKO

I would like to reserve defensive Zygarde-C
Zygarde @ Leftovers
Ability: Power Construct
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Haze
- Glare
- Rest
- Thousand Arrows

With its immense bulk, Zygarde-C can even tank Precipice Blades at +2 Attack. Zygarde-C can use Haze to remove stat boosts and Paralyze Groudon with Glare while having an option to recover health using Rest.

+2 252 Atk Life Orb Groudon Precipice Blades vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Zygarde-Complete: 356-421 (55.9 - 66.1%)
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Groudon Max Quake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Dynamax Zygarde-Complete: 417-491 (32.7 - 38.6%)

Solrock @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Morning Sun
- Will-O-Wisp
- Grass Knot / (Bulldoze/Rock Tomb, latter can miss tho, if you want to revenge Don instead of getting dmg)
- Iron Defense

In honor of USUM the sunpebble. Set is obviously optimized to be used against sd don and nothing else otherwise stealth rock/toxic etc are options. Levitate makes it immune to blades/eq while it takes resisted from airstream/fire coverage and edge with only 8 pp only hits neutral and 80% of the time.
