spring 2013 anime season is nearly over!

so i don't know if you guys have been keeping up but this season has been a hell of a ride so far. i guess i'll talk a little about the shows i've been watching. i'll use vague language to mask spoilers, i recommend you guys use spoiler tags if you're talking about something specific

attack on titan was fantastic until the trost arc started. the pacing just completely slowed down and the animation has gotten worse too. however i can't judge a series based off a few episodes, and as a whole attack on titan has been magnificent so far. the next episode will resolve this first arc (it's a 2 cour so episode 14 will be a recap which i hate because every episode has a minimum of one minute of recap anyway)

hataraku maou-sama! suffers from the same problem that kokoro connect did - resolution within one arc and sloppy plot afterwards. the first arc was fantastic, i think the series is one of the best in terms of executing humour. it's incredibly well polished but unfortunately it's hit a dip in terms of ideas to forward the plot with. the interaction between the characters are hilarious, if a bit forced

yahari ore blahblahblah romcom snafu (oregairu), or as i like to call it, 'there's no way my little slice of life anime can be this good' has been the standout this season. slice of life is normally a bit dry but oregairu is so ridiculously well presented that it made me reconsider all of my preconceptions about the genre. the praise usually given is that it's real and i can't disagree. it's so real that it can take liberties with humour and tropes without detracting from its overall quality. my only complaints would be an imperfect adaptation (a lot of plot lines ended up going nowhere but i guess 'filler' is a necessity when your source material is not too far ahead)

also sensei best girl 2013

photo kano is a steaming pile of shit and i don't know what i was expecting

I tried to keep up with a lot of anime early on this season but it was too tough keeping track of 8 different shows at once.

Yahari, Valvrave, Gargantia, and Date a Live were my go-tos. I stopped watching Attack on Titan in favor of its manga which was a little more accessible to me. I wanted to continue Red Data Girl, but I fell into the same rut as AoT...

iirc there was another one or two anime I was watching but dropped because it was tough to keep up.

Oregairu is my aots. Attack on Titan is kinda meh and maousama didn't really go anywhere despite having great characters. Henneko was kinda generic moe for 75% of its episodes but I really love how the characters are animated and it produced a lot of excellent gifs. Date a live was IS 2.0 until Kurumi showed up and became the greatest yandere ever. Gargantia is the only anime I dropped this season because the plot went stupid and annoyed me.

I could post more when I'm not on my phone, but there wasn't much to say other than this was a pretty solid season imo.

Edit: fuck oreimo s2

there's no way my little sequel can be this retarded

seriously though HOOOOLY SHIT oregairu is SOOO GOOD ARAIGHAIHGOAHGAOIHGOAIHGAOIJ i will probably do a full analysis of ep12 later

Hataraku's main focus was pretty much the humor rather than plot, which was fine by me since it was hilarious. The books take a more serious tone while holding on to the humor through the later volumes. Gathering a main characters base usually doesn't go smoothly at first for a series like this but then it takes off. Really hoping for another season of this.

The only other one I followed this season was Date A Live, which was pretty average.
