I've never considered myself a good team builder but I've gotten a bit of traction out of this team. It's not perfect which is why I am posting this as I am looking for any pointers or replacements. After Primarina got bumped up to BL I wanted to give it a shot cause I felt it was one of the more underrated 'mons within the tier that can really put in some work.
First and foremost, the center of the team, Primarina. A fairly simple set, choice specs, 4 attacks, mainly here to hit hard and clean up teams that simply don't have the bulk to take many hits from the Water/Fairy STAB combo. The normal switch in to this thing that I have seen thus far is Toad and Ferrothorn, Toad really doesn't appreciate Moonblast and Ferro drops to usually 3 Hydro Pumps.
Primarina @ Choice Specs
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Moonblast
- Energy Ball
- Ice Beam
Following this up I was thinking since Primarina wasn't running a plus speed nature I figured it was going to have to take more hits, so in order to help that I decided to put on a dual screens Grimmsnarl. I complimented this with T-wave and Spirit Break just to be an all around annoying Pokemon, slowing down anything in front of it, bulking up its teammates and preventing special attackers from causing too much trouble.
Grimmsnarl @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Thunder Wave
- Spirit Break
Following this I wanted some form of hazards and hazard control so I went with a focus sash Excadrill. This was one of my 2 go-to lead Pokemon along with Grimmsnarl, it deals with opposing teams Excadrills along with other mons that match up well against drill but get stopped by the focus sash. That being said, against bulkier teams it basically just sets up rocks and faints.
Excadrill @ Focus Sash
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Iron Head
The next Pokemon I decided to use here was a Scarfed Hydreigon, another simple 4 attack set that just outspeeds all Pokemon that aren't scarfed and a chunk of scarfed Pokemon as well. Not the hardest hitter, also has its troubles with bulky teams but can deal with a lot of offensive Pokemon like non-scarf Dragapults. Just a fast and offensive Pokemon that can clean up in the end.
Hydreigon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- U-turn
The 5th member of the team is an Air Balloon Aegislash. Aegislash is an all around good Pokemon that can both dish out and take attacks. One of my main ways of dealing with a lot of bulkier builds and the balloon allows for switches into Excadrill and other earthquake users and hit them back with a strong blow, catching a lot of opponents off guard. I opted to use Close Combat over steel STAB and so far it has paid off.
Aegislash @ Air Balloon
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Sneak
- Close Combat
- King's Shield
The last Pokemon I went with was some added bulk in Clefable. It is a 2 attack plus wish-pass set, not the most useful of members, but it is there and it does tend to be fairly useful in a number of games. Will never sweep but does come in, absorb some hits, then heals itself and teammates.
Clefable @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spa
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Teleport
- Flamethrower
Final thoughts, the team is one of the better ones I have built but it does have its struggles, especially against bulky teams, and water types in general. The team has almost nothing to touch Toxapex with which has been a growing problem. On the offensive side, Dracovish is one of the Pokemon that can lay the hurt on this team, along with Terrakion if it can get up a Swords Dance.
Thank you for any ideas that can be given.
