SS OU Specs Primarina Triple Fairy Offence

I've never considered myself a good team builder but I've gotten a bit of traction out of this team. It's not perfect which is why I am posting this as I am looking for any pointers or replacements. After Primarina got bumped up to BL I wanted to give it a shot cause I felt it was one of the more underrated 'mons within the tier that can really put in some work.

First and foremost, the center of the team, Primarina. A fairly simple set, choice specs, 4 attacks, mainly here to hit hard and clean up teams that simply don't have the bulk to take many hits from the Water/Fairy STAB combo. The normal switch in to this thing that I have seen thus far is Toad and Ferrothorn, Toad really doesn't appreciate Moonblast and Ferro drops to usually 3 Hydro Pumps.

Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Moonblast
- Energy Ball
- Ice Beam

Following this up I was thinking since Primarina wasn't running a plus speed nature I figured it was going to have to take more hits, so in order to help that I decided to put on a dual screens Grimmsnarl. I complimented this with T-wave and Spirit Break just to be an all around annoying Pokemon, slowing down anything in front of it, bulking up its teammates and preventing special attackers from causing too much trouble.

- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Thunder Wave
- Spirit Break

Following this I wanted some form of hazards and hazard control so I went with a focus sash Excadrill. This was one of my 2 go-to lead Pokemon along with Grimmsnarl, it deals with opposing teams Excadrills along with other mons that match up well against drill but get stopped by the focus sash. That being said, against bulkier teams it basically just sets up rocks and faints.

- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Iron Head

The next Pokemon I decided to use here was a Scarfed Hydreigon, another simple 4 attack set that just outspeeds all Pokemon that aren't scarfed and a chunk of scarfed Pokemon as well. Not the hardest hitter, also has its troubles with bulky teams but can deal with a lot of offensive Pokemon like non-scarf Dragapults. Just a fast and offensive Pokemon that can clean up in the end.

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- U-turn

The 5th member of the team is an Air Balloon Aegislash. Aegislash is an all around good Pokemon that can both dish out and take attacks. One of my main ways of dealing with a lot of bulkier builds and the balloon allows for switches into Excadrill and other earthquake users and hit them back with a strong blow, catching a lot of opponents off guard. I opted to use Close Combat over steel STAB and so far it has paid off.

Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Sneak
- Close Combat
- King's Shield

The last Pokemon I went with was some added bulk in Clefable. It is a 2 attack plus wish-pass set, not the most useful of members, but it is there and it does tend to be fairly useful in a number of games. Will never sweep but does come in, absorb some hits, then heals itself and teammates.

- Teleport
- Flamethrower

Final thoughts, the team is one of the better ones I have built but it does have its struggles, especially against bulky teams, and water types in general. The team has almost nothing to touch Toxapex with which has been a growing problem. On the offensive side, Dracovish is one of the Pokemon that can lay the hurt on this team, along with Terrakion if it can get up a Swords Dance.

Thank you for any ideas that can be given.

Heyyos! Nice Screens HO team you've got here that centers around Primarina! I can see that this team looks pretty freaking fun to play with cause Specs Primarina is such a fun mon to use. I have some thoughts for you to consider and give a try for your team.

Firstly, Clef is such a misfit here. This is because of a few reasons. 1. You are already overloading on fairy spam 2. Your EV nature and moveset mismatch is resulting in inefficiency and 3. Your team has other holes you need to patch up and Clef doesn't help you solve the problem. We will need an offensive water check this slot that doesn't waste the veil turns so I think that the best slot for this is to use Scarf Keldeo. Scarf Keldeo is an interesting fit for this team because it is able to "nullify" Dracovish's fishious rend and even though it's pretty normal for Dracovish to carry psychic fangs, it is not the go to move for vish players since its a lot easier to just click rend. For offensive teams to play around vish without using toad (which saps momentum), you will need to do a lot of juggling around. Also, Scarf Keldeo helps you deal with Zeraora (weakened), Terrakion (scarf terrak is not common in the meta) and helps deal with dark types like Bisharp / Weavile which this team might see problems with despite the dual fairy offense.

Next, since we swapped out clef for a faster scarfer, I think hydreigon can now be swapped from scarf to a fat breaker by using it's LO Nasty Plot set. Nasty Plot is one of those sets that has been forgotten over time because home released a new set of threats (in the form of Zeraora) but it is such a powerful wall breaker against fatter teams that you may have problems with. I will opt to use Flamethrower on this set so that you can have a solid way of dealing with Ferrothorn. Nothing much I need to say about this but maybe some calcs will show you the might of LO nasty plot
252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Toxapex: 199-234 (65.4 - 76.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Toxapex: 395-465 (129.9 - 152.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Flash Cannon vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Clefable: 341-403 (86.5 - 102.2%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO after Leftovers recovery

Aegislash is an interesting mon and I like that you opted to use the physical set since it's still a very prominent threat, but I think Aegislash is one of those mons that you don't need to run King Shield anymore to revert back to defensive forme. This is because your team is pretty much HO in nature and using King Shield to revert your defenses is a huge sap of momentum so a quick fix to that is to ensure that you keep your primary STABs and run Iron Head over King Shield to give you more sweeping power. No need to run Jolly because Adamant base 60 is just fine for offensive Aegislash

730.png

Lastly, I am not a fan of Torrent + Hydro Pump because 1. Torrent boost on Primarina is not as strong as what we'd like it to be because Hydro Pump is its only STAB and I rlly rlly hate missing Hydro Pumps on key switches only to lose because of that. So as a result, I swapped to Liquid Voice Hyper Voice set and I never looked back. Sure you lose 20 BP on your primary stab but you gain 100% accuracy and the ability to bypass subs. I just simply love it a lot more Hydro Pump so I think you might like it as well. We are also going to use Psychic so you can deal adequate damage to Toxapex and mons like Galarian Weezing
252+ SpA Choice Specs Primarina Psychic vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Toxapex: 234-276 (76.9 - 90.7%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
252+ SpA Choice Specs Primarina Psychic vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Weezing-Galar: 286-338 (85.6 - 101.1%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

With these changes, your team should now be able to more easily deal with the threats that you have listed and function more effectively as a cohesive team. Have fun with the team and stay safe amidst the pandemic!

Appreciate the advice, I played some games with the new squad, only thing I changed was I kept king's shield, so far about 7-1 with the team. Thanks again.
