Alolan Muk is an amazing defensive part of any Dark team, with its Poison typing and an amazing Special Defense stat providing Dark a comfortable switch-in to the likes of special Iron Valiant, Enamorus, Volcarona, and Tapu Lele. Poison Touch gives Alolan Muk the ability to poison common switch-ins such as Great Tusk, Rotom-W, and Zapdos. Poison Jab provides an accurate and solid way to deal damage to Fairy-types such as Tapu Lele and Tapu Koko. Knock Off makes progress against item-reliant Pokemon such as Porygon2 and Celesteela. Pursuit grants Alolan Muk the ability to trap Pokemon like Alolan Raichu, Gholdengo, and Galarian Slowking that attempt to switch out against it. Alternatively, Drain Punch gives Alolan Muk both another form of recovery and a tool to deal with Steel-types like Hisuian Goodra, Heatran, and Hydreigon. Finally, Protect can allow Alolan Muk to scout Choice-locked threats such as Meowscarada and Enamorus and take advantage of Black Sludge recovery. Investing 20 EVs in Attack helps Alolan Muk always break Kyurem's Substitute with Poison Jab. Mandibuzz is a great partner to complement Alolan Muk, as its immunity to Ground makes it easier to switch into threats such as Excadrill, Garchomp, and Great Tusk. and it has access to Defog to remove entry hazards that would whittle down Alolan Muk, allowing it to make the most out of Black Sludge. Furthermore, Mandibuzz checks physical setup sweepers like Scizor and Mega Gallade by using Foul Play. With its Ghost typing and Will-O-Wisp, Mega Sableye can handle threatening Fighting-types such as Sneasler, Iron Hands, and Mega Gallade. Mega Sableye is also excellent to pair with Alolan Muk, as it grants Dark a bulky Magic Bounce user. Meowscarada helps threaten out several Water- and Ground-type threats that threaten Alolan Muk like Choice Band Urshifu-R, Mega Swampert, and Great Tusk with its powerful Flower Trick. Both Hydreigon and Weavile appreciate having Alolan Muk on the team. as it can effectively Pursuit trap Tapu Lele. Alolan Muk complements Ting-Lu's hazard-stacking capabilities by spreading poison to wear down foes or removing Heavy-Duty Boots. Hydreigon is a wallbreaker that checks defensive Pokemon that Alolan Muk struggles to break like Hippowdon, opposing Alolan Muk, and Toxapex. Weavile checks Ground-, Dragon-, and Flying-types such as Garchomp, Mega Altaria, and Landorus.
