[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 5 onwards
**Price Range**: 7-10 points
**Overview**: Snorlax utilizes its sheer bulk to be a bulky sweeper or act as a wall, and its brilliant coverage exemplifies what a great Pokemon can be, giving it the means of breaking through typical checks while having little limitation to customizability. It does suffer from its only viable recovery being Rest, which is often wanted on every set. Snorlax has minimal issues with its special bulk and keeps a majority of the special attacking threats at bay; however, physical attackers can take advantage of its poor Defense and it struggles in such an offensive metagame due to its pace of play and clear weaknesses, making it quite niche when considering its strengths against better walls in the current metagame.
Common Roles
========
**Setup Sweeper**: Curse is a staple on Snorlax, closing down the reliable way to revenge kill it from Defense boosts and giving it the offensive output to sweep through teams from Attack boosts. This set typically relies of Rest and Sleep Talk to give it extra longevity.
**Special Wall**: Snorlax has astounding special bulk, which allows it to check many specially offensive Pokemon. It can stay healthy after taking hits by using Rest, it can disrupt foes with Yawn and Encore, and it can deal damage with its great movepool.
Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Body Slam, Double-Edge
**Setup Moves**: Curse
**Utility Moves**: Rest, Sleep Talk, Substitute, Yawn, Encore, Brick Break
**Coverage**: Brick Break, Crunch, Earthquake, Fire Punch, Gunk Shot, Hammer Arm, Heat Crash, Heavy Slam, High Horsepower, Ice Punch, Iron Head, Outrage, Rock Slide, Seed Bomb, Supercell Slam, Thunder Punch, Wild Charge, Zen Headbutt
Niche Moves
========
**Facade**: If Snorlax is under threat of being statused, it can run Facade to turn it against the foe.
**Belly Drum**: Snorlax can maximize its solid Attack stat and become a fierce late-game cleaner at the cost of its HP.
**Block**: Block can enable Snorlax to trap a Pokemon lacking a pivot move and get extra boosts from Curse or get a Belly Drum off.
**Recycle**: Recycle allows Snorlax to restore extra health from an already-consumed Berry or even gain another temporary shield with a resistance Berry. It gets far more mileage out of this move if used in conjunction with Gluttony.
Common Items
========
**Leftovers**: Leftovers is a great item for Snorlax to extend its longevity in matches where it would be valuable late-game, making it less dependent on Rest to regain health.
**Chesto Berry**: Chesto Berry allows Snorlax to immediately wake up from a Rest and apply more pressure without having to rely on Sleep Talk.
**Sitrus / Iapapa Berry**: Sitrus and Iapapa Berry allow Snorlax to stay healthy after Belly Drum in combination with Gluttony; it can also increase its longevity via either Berry to gain an extra chance to break down even physically defensive walls.
**Choice Band**: Snorlax can leverage its sheer bulk to be a solid Choice Band attacker. Its STAB moves and coverage options means it can generally fit four moves onto its moveset and break through multiple bulkier foes.
Niche Items
========
**Custap Berry**: Custap Berry pairs extremely well with Gluttony, as Snorlax can get the effect far earlier and surprise a lot of teams with a strong move when they might anticipate another ability or item.
**Clear Amulet**: Clear Amulet helps Snorlax maintain its Attack boosts against Intimidate users. It can also block Parting Shot and other stat drops that may hinder it.
**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Snorlax can benefit more from Heavy-Duty Boots in matches where entry hazards may be more effective; it can then wall strong special attackers without being chipped down throughout the game.
**Mental Herb**: Snorlax is vulnerable to moves such as Encore and Taunt, so it can be prevented from constantly using Rest and other moves consistently. Mental Herb allows it to bypass this issue so it can't get locked into a move or forced into attacking when low on HP.
**Red Card**: Snorlax's incredible bulk means it could run Red Card to possibly phase out a boosted foe and regain momentum.
**Eject Button**: Eject Button allows Snorlax to take a strong special move and then pivot out to a counter that is too frail to switch in immediately.
**Chople Berry**: Chople Berry lets Snorlax survive one strong Fighting-type attack and counterattack with a strong STAB or coverage move.
Tera
========
Snorlax can be considered as a secondary Tera Captain, as its Normal typing, albeit what makes it a great wall, can be punished by plenty of Pokemon with strong Fighting-type moves; Tera Ghost can make Snorlax immune to Fighting, although it then cannot run Curse to set up. Tera Flying and Fairy can flip matchups against Fighting-types by resisting their moves and retaliating with a strong Tera Blast. It can also run Tera Ground to boost Earthquake, Tera Poison to boost Gunk Shot, and even Tera Normal to make its STAB moves that much deadlier. It may also take advantage of the plentiful resistances Tera Grass and Steel may offer while offsetting their weaknesses with Thick Fat.
Draft Strategy
========
Snorlax is a relatively standard bulky attacker that can lean into its excellent movepool and gargantuan special bulk. Since the metagame is very offensive, however, it struggles more than it ever did previously and it requires plenty of support to be a great team member.
**Physical Walls**: Snorlax is particularly frail on the physical side, so it would appreciate a teammate that can soak up such hits. Pokemon like Great Tusk, Pecharunt, and Landorus-T can take the strong Fighting-type moves that come to remove Snorlax, and in return, they appreciate its ability to keep special attackers at bay.
**Fast Pivots**: Snorlax excels at taking special hits, so Pokemon like Meowscarada, Cinderace, (AC) and Tornadus-T can all pivot to it for it to take the huge blows that would normally knock them out, giving it time to set up or heal back to full health with Rest.
**Entry Hazard Setters**: Snorlax is great at forcing switches with its combination of bulk and damage output, so Pokemon such as Hisuian Samurott, Deoxys-S, and Garchomp can spread Stealth Rock and Spikes so it has a better time cleaning through teams.
**Wallbreakers**: Snorlax really appreciates wallbreakers that can remove Ghost-, Rock- and Steel-types that are immune to or resist its STAB moves and take its coverage options well. Fighting-types with Dark-type coverage like Urshifu-S, Great Tusk, and Iron Valiant do this incredibly well, as they can keep foes that check Snorlax reliably at bay.
Checks and Counters
========
**Ghost-type Pokemon**: Ghost-types can take Snorlax's STAB attacks, forcing it to run extra coverage, which is often difficult to fit when it wants Rest, Sleep Talk, and Curse. Many bulky Ghost-types, such as Gholdengo, Annihilape, and Pecharunt, can also reliably take its coverage hits.
**Disruption**: Snorlax is incredibly prone to Taunt, Encore, and niche moves such as Disable, as they would lock it out of a crucial move that could completely stop a sweep from happening or make it useless, forcing it to swap out.
**Strong Physical Attackers**: Snorlax has a rough time with strong physical attackers, as it has subpar Defense. Fighting-types such as Urshifu-S and Iron Valiant can muscle through its gargantuan HP or force it out. Other non-Fighting-type wallbreakers such as Gouging Fire, Palafin, and Meowscarada can effectively break through Snorlax.
**Entry Hazards**: Snorlax can be easily worn down entry hazards or forced into running Heavy-Duty Boots, which is generally suboptimal with movesets thatmay want to have the gradual recovery of Leftovers or utilise utilize either Sitrus or Iapapa Berry. Hisuian Samurott can set Spikes while dealing damage and stop Snorlax from making much progress over a game. Other Pokemon such as Ting-Lu and Deoxys-S are excellent entry hazard Setters that can reduce its effectiveness.
**Phasing**: Snorlax is easier than most Pokemon to phaze, as it generally requires boosts to start dealing major damage against foes, so Pokemon that take it on reliably, such as Skarmory, Mandibuzz, and Hippowdon can remove a boosted Snorlax and heal off the damage.
