Official SPL Discussion Thread Main Predictions

Congregation of the Classiest (7) vs (5) Circus Maximus Tigers
SV OU: S1nn0hC0nfirm3d vs 3d - two very strong players with vastly different profiles. Sinnoh has mostly dealt in new-age offence with one or two twists, and his games are often pretty short. 3d has used a variety of squads this tour and is more likely to pull out a fatter BO or balance. I think Sinnoh's brings have been an inch more out there and that might give him the edge combined with his overall record - that Band Moon + double removal into stall was exactly what he needed - but 3d is definitely more than capable of going the distance with him, and I highly doubt he'll bring anything that makes the matchup unplayable. However, there's also momentum to keep in mind: Sinnoh just won a TB Game 3 and prevented a two-game slide from extending, while 3d was subbed into a meaningless tiebreaker game and then didn't play it.

SV OU: Kate vs Storm Zone - Congratulations to Storm Zone on defeating the villain of scheduling and causing a German man to have an Ohio moment. There's only so many ways I can call this guy one of the main protagonists of SV OU and he'd be the favourite against anyone but, like, three people. The way he approaches offence building is both immediately recognizable and difficult to replicate. The one thing he is missing, though, is a team tour trophy. Kate is looking to make this SPL her second time jumping in off the bench and clutching a team's season after SCL II, and she's a perpetual wildcard threat. Don't count her out; I doubt Storm gets se

SV OU: LpZ vs JJ09LIE - This is really close on the face of it. Both of them started playing officials in 2024 and have shown transferrable skills across disciplines, and both of them are highly capable pilots for whatever their team has cooked, generally favouring offence builds. I have this one at about 50/50 and no result here would really surprise me. The thing is, I have a premonition that someone is going to try and fish with stall and catastrophe will ensue, and my tarot cards are saying JJ will be the victim. Either he's going to load a stall team from late 2023 and run into triple Choice x Knock or LpZ will load a stall team and the game lasts 200 turns. I hope this doesn't come true.

SV OU: leng loi vs DugZa - both of these players have raised their profiles significantly over the past 12 months and it'd be very cool to see either with a trophy. Both of these players also lost their last games, but DugZa's was arguably worse because he lost to Ewin after he tried to schedule with him via Despicable Me GIF. I really value teambuilding and matchup in SV and think leng has an edge here for that reason; DugZa has looked really strong in his wins but when he gets off-balance some of the games start to scare me, and if leng has a good MU out the gate this could go a long way in destabilizing him.

I predicted a 7-5 but tiebreakers are an interesting proposition. SV is most likely Sinnoh vs Storm, a W1 rematch. I think SV2 is way too risky for either team, both teams have multiple 6+ win players lol.
Tigers pick first, and they probably have to pick around a very possible BW counterpick. GSC for Carapinga is never a bad choice but he might also be their best option for defending BW - idk what other personnel they have there. ORAS could be a fun pick if Ruffles keeps his momentum up, he could potentially drag McMeghan up there and that would be a blast.
Classiest have a unique situation, as their normal best option (ADV McMeghan) is probably a little risky into 8-2 dummy but they can also pick on the 1-9 BW slot. Their second pick means the Tigers heavily telegraph their personnel choices, which opens them up to doing some funny shit with McMeghan on offence if they figure they can leave BIHI to defending whatever classic gen. Could try and mismatch hunt in BW: I think you end up picking it 7+ times out of 10 no matter who you send there.

I'm gonna make a quick "hot take" even tho both players have been having a great season, and while sure, s1nn0h did clutched vs java, the stall hater in me just wants to say team matchup diff (even tho he literally got every single predict right)

Kate is good, but as long as Storm Zone doesn't bring meowscarada or some meme mon, this should be sz win

I'm personally impressed with how LpZ has performed, and I think he will win, but the game itself is a lot closer than what you might think, it comes down to prepping for weird offenses

dugza's teams have been personally a mystery to me, I can't quite put my finger on them, the way they are structured are just weird, but im ass so maybe lengbron James can figure out a pattern, last week was burned food, but I think things will change

While sinnoh did win his game vs sz in week 1, the game was "convoluted" to put it kindly. But both players have come a long way since then, sinnoh clutched up and saved his time against the tyrants, while sz saved his aura vs skibidi Ewin. I feel like both are dead even, I'm gonna bold sinnoh, but I wouldn't be surprised if sz wins

Carapinga has been having a super tier season while BIHI has struggled a bit, and while the writer of this post does not understand the details, inner workings and complex plays behind dpp and gsc, I feel like the don has better mental for this game

Classiest pick: BW: McMeghan vs 3d
