Semi Anti Starter Sudowoodo

Alright, its time for me to put my money where my mouth is, most of my posts have been dubious at best so far... So in attempt to get some credibility back (I donno if i had any to begin with...) I wanted to propose this as an "anti Starter leadoff"

Sudowoodo@Shuca (sp?) Berry (Reduces Damage from Ground Type Moves)
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Attack (for sure) 252 HP (or split in HP and Def, this needs a bit of work still)
Moveset:
- Low Kick
- Wood Hammer
- Stone Edge
- Thief/Stealth Rock/Earthquake

Ok first of all this is meant as an Anti Tyranitar, Swampert, Hippopowdon starter of sorts... I think of the 3 Hippo provides the most problems...

Full EV Adamant Sudo Low Kick is a OHKO on Tyranitar and its fat arse. Have not checked Wood Hammer against Swampert but by extension if Low Kick OHKOs Tyranitar at Full HP setups (no defense added), then Wood Hammer should OHKO Swampert similarly. (Different Setups may change this)

Now we have a problem with Sudo; Its slower... and there is no way it could survive a Choice Band Tyranitar Earthquake would it?... Not so fast, with the Shuca berry you in fact with Sudowoodo's Defense would survive Earthquake from even Choice Band Tyranitar, and would in turn OHKO Tyranitar with Low Kick... similar happens with Swampert if he tries to Earthquake you (Swampert could use waterfall i suppose, but would they? I somehow doubt swampert would use a less strong attack... but I don't know)

Your berry activates on your first hitting of opponents Earthquake... this is why I was thinking Thief, to run away after your KO then come back later to thief something useful if opponent decides to run, but in the long run perhaps Earthquake or Stealth Rock might be easier...

For fear of being yet again flamed and shot down, I am going to propose at least a discussion of this type of setup (while yes its situational, its not entierly out of the question)

So Here goes nothing...

He only hits 261 with scarf with jolly and max speed. I think Ground berry is fine. I was going to suggest focus strip, but then you die with Wood Hammer recoil.

imo:

Sudowoodo @ Expert Belt / Life Orb / CB
Trait: Rock Head
Adamant Nature
68 HP / 252 Atk / 188 Spd
-Wood Hammer
-Double-Edge
-Stone Edge
-Explosion / Earthquake

The magic of this guy is that he hits hard and he can utilize a few very strong moves. Thanks to Rock Head, he doesn't take recoil damage from Double-Edge and Wood Hammer. With those EVs, he outspeeds Relaxed-nature Swampert.

Also, he is cool since, with Sandstream, his Special Def increases, which means he could be formidable.

Rock head.

I would prefer focus strip because you get to survive Salamence hydro pump, Infernape close combat and so forth. Sudowoodo is not afraid of sandstream either, but it is never going to kill more than 1 pokemon, since it is so slow (comedy trick room). Give it a few speed EVs to outspeed Snorlax and throw in explosion in last spot, in case you ever get the opportunity to use it. EVed to outspeed -speed Swampert is handy too, like Judgement said.

Edit: you should use both earthquake and explosion (so forget double edge), as the former OHKOs Infernape and friends.

yea all of those setups work just fine and perhaps even better. Perhaps I am trying to get a bit Greedy because I specifically was looking for a setup that might work, but that also KOs Tyranitar before keeling over.

Wow, I forgot about Rock Head. In that case, I would suggest focus strip along with max Atk and the rest in HP/Defenses.

I like this setup a lot and Judgement basically points out all the strong points. It's a good thing he can outspeed Swampert since he might be in trouble if Swampert carries Surf, although I don't know how common that will be.

Forgive me for sounding stupid(although thats not stopped me before) but do you mean Focus Band which has a chance to surive attacks at 1HP? or Focus Sash which only surives OHKO moves (such as Horn Drill, Sheer Cold etc). Or was I missing some effect of one of these items?

I think i meant focus sash. And by OHKO, what it means is if the attack would KO while you are at full HP, you survive. It applies to more than Hord Drill, etc.

Thanks Sciz... ok it does, I was remiss I didnt know that that item also stopped you from being KOed by Anything in one hit... In which case that would in fact be better than the Berry item anyway since it was intended for leadoff

Point Edit: From the Calculations I have done (I need to rerun them just to make sure) the ground berry would end up leaving Sudowoodo with about 100 I think HP, but that might not be enough to really matter in the long run anyway)

exactly. The only problem I see is a U-turn lead Pokemon. They can ruin the Focus Sash and switch to a counter right away.

My guess is if I ever intended to use Sudowoodo as a leadoff, eventually you know what uses U-Turn, and which case I would just switch out sudo to something that might give me a type matchup that might favor me... prediction obviously comes into play huge here... but I agree with the U-Turn point
