(Yeah, Scrafty's movepool is great. You get the idea.)
Pros and Cons
Pros
- AMAZING movepool.
- Has three absolutely awesome abilities for a multitude of sets.
- Access to Dragon Dance to make it a very potent sweeper.
- Has surprisingly decent 65/115/115 bulk.
- AMAZING offensive STAB combo of Dark and Fighting.
- Access to utilities such as Roar and Encore.
- Resists Kingambit's Sucker Punch.
- Has access to a whopping FOUR setup moves, as well as many other good moves for versatility.
Cons
- A MISERABLE 58 Speed makes it rely on Dragon Dance and/or Sticky Web to be potent.
- Has a 4x weakness to Fairy, which is very common lately with Iron Valiant.
- 65 Health isn't the best, either.
- It can't even utilize half of its movepool because of its abysmal SpAtk. stat.
Analysis
This is my third thread on a SEVERELY underrated returner, this one being Scrafty! A surprisingly bulky Fighting-Type with a DEADLY STAB combo and three AMAZING abilities in the forms of Shed Skin, Moxie, and Intimidate, all for their own purposes. And Scrafty also got a big buff in the form of Terastallization, meaning it can get rid of its dreadful 4x Fairy weakness that it's had since Gen 6! And with Fairy being a seriously dominant typing in the metagame with Iron Valiant and Enamorus, this could be BIG for Scrafty. And with Scrafty's decent statspread and its hilariously wide movepool, it could be seriously versatile on the field. And with the newfound ability to terastallize, Scrafty can now become a more defensive Pokemon versus the likes of more threatening Pokemon that could otherwise fucking nuke it.
Tera Potential
Scrafty being Scrafty, would have a multitude of Tera Types to help it offensively or defensively. There's many ways to increase your Scrafty's longevity or potency with many interchangeable Tera Types depending on what set you run for it. These tera types will be listed below:
- Tera Fairy. Resists Fighting and Dark, as well as gaining a Dragon Immunity.
- Tera Steel. Resists Fairy. Not too much else, mainly a longevity thing.
- Tera Fighting. Powers up HJK and Close Combat/Drain Punch.
- Tera Dark. Powers up Crunch, could be used to directly threaten some other Pokemon.
- Tera Ground. Not too useful per se, only to gain an immunity versus a possible Thunderclap from Raging Bolt or Archaludon's Electro Shot.
- Tera Fire. Immune to Burns.
Potential Sets (I CANNOT believe I forgot this section on the first bit)
Scrafty is a rare case of a Pokemon with an ability to be used offensively or defensively, and I've got at least one set for both.
Dragon Dance
Ponyboy (Scrafty) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate/Moxie
Tera Type: Fairy/Fighting/Dark
EVs: 252 Atk / 16 SpD / 240 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- High Jump Kick/Drain Punch
- Crunch
- Zen Headbutt/Tera Blast
While the Teras and Moves are interchangeable, YOU NEED CRUNCH as well as a good Ability for the set for it to run properly (you can use Moxie for passive buffs upon KOes or Intimidate to increase your chances of proper setup). Tera Fairy is an option here because of your ability to run both Tera Blast and the fact that you can deal with other Fairies this way, though you can only hit for neutral damage. That won't matter, anyway, because if you hit the right matchup, you're gonna be at about +2 or +3 anyways.
Bulk Up/Defensive Hitter
Dallas (Scrafty) (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Fire/Steel
EVs: 212 HP / 44 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Roar/Substitute
- Knock Off/Tera Blast
This is a less aggro setup for Scrafty, as now we're utilizing its access to Bulk Up for effective longevity and potency at the same time, as Bulk Up will raise both Defense AND Attack, making it take a load of damage and deal a fucking truckload of it back somehow, which is exactly why this is SpDef invested. I'd recommend Tera Fire here as you can't be burned, meaning you could be even MORE potent while sitting and bulking yourself up to do some very silly things.
Pure "Stall" Scrafty
Two-Bit (Scrafty) (M) @ Leftovers/Chesto Berry
Ability: Intimidate/Shed Skin
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Roar
- Iron Defense/Super Fang
- Encore/Rest
We take FULL ADVANTAGE of what Scrafty can use for utility here, though everything here is interchangeable. You DO need Knock Off however for item denial upon opponent switchin or just all around. However, this set is entirely a fucking meme and is probably the least recommended out of the three sets I've made for dear Scrafty on this thread.
My Conclusions
Scrafty's.. Definitely not making OU. Or UU, per se. But with Terastallization under its belt, you can now make it resist Fairy and other threats, which could finally perhaps let it tier higher than PU for once? Who knows, but I'd say it would be cool seeing Scrafty in NU or possibly even RU, though it still might not happen sue to our DREADFUL powercreep since launch, which SEVERELY hurts its usage overall. However, they gave Scrafty a great arsenal of abilities and utility/support moves to back it up, which would probably facilitate it seeing NU or RU in usage. All in all, Scrafty seems to be an okay Pokemon, made better with Terastallization and new support to help it on an average team, though I do not recommend using it in OU past the next tiershift.
