[OVERVIEW]
Scrafty can be run as an either bulky or fast setup sweeper, sporting both Bulk Up and Dragon Dance. Its solid bulk and defensive typing give it various opportunities to switch in against and set up on Pokemon such as Vaporeon and Palossand. However, this same typing also gives it weaknesses to common types such as Fairy and Fighting, which are often run as coverage on Pokemon Scrafty wants to check such as Mesprit and Absol. Scrafty's typing also has its ups and downs offensively, as it is able to hit most of the tier neutrally, but Fairy-types such as Aromatisse and Silvally-Fairy completely wall it if it is not running coverage. While Scrafty's defenses are good, its Attack is underwhelming without boosts and its Speed is very mediocre, with it still being outsped even at +1 by Pokemon such as Ribombee and Whimsicott.
[SET]
name: Bulk Up
move 1: Bulk Up
move 2: Knock Off
move 3: Drain Punch
move 4: Rest
item: Leftovers
ability: Shed Skin
nature: Careful
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
[SET COMMENTS]
This set allows Scrafty to serve as a special sponge that can soft check special attackers such as Heliolisk and Vanilluxe, which it can use as setup bait. This pairs well with Bulk Up because, after setting up, Scrafty can take both physical and special hits, ideally allowing it to slowly break through the opponent's remaining Pokemon. This is furthered by its combination of Rest and Shed Skin, which makes Scrafty harder to wear down and cripple with status conditions, although Shed Skin can be unreliable at times. Drain Punch also helps keep Scrafty healthy, while Knock Off does decent damage while crippling Pokemon that may depend on their items such as Weezing and Choice Scarf Passimian. Scrafty prefers to start setting up after threats to it such as Passimian, Aromatisse, and Braviary have been taken out, so Pokemon that can help against those such as Uxie, Togedemaru, and Rotom make for good teammates.
[SET]
name: Dragon Dance
move 1: Dragon Dance
move 2: Close Combat / High Jump Kick
move 3: Knock Off
move 4: Iron Head
item: Lum Berry / Chople Berry
ability: Moxie / Shed Skin
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Dragon Dance gives Scrafty a greater offensive presence, with Moxie giving it an easier time sweeping and maximum Speed with a Jolly nature allowing it to outspeed base 110 Speed Pokemon after one Dragon Dance. Close Combat serves as its powerful STAB move, although High Jump Kick is slightly more powerful and has no defense drops in exchange for considerably more risk. Iron Head hits Fairy-types like Silvally-Fairy and Aromatisse. Lum Berry gives Scrafty one-time protection from status conditions that would otherwise make it much harder to sweep, but Chople Berry can instead be used to take moves such as Close Combat from Choice Scarf Passimian, which still outspeeds +1 Scrafty, and Hitmontop's Mach Punch. Chople Berry can be run alongside Shed Skin so Scrafty can still set up against Pokemon like Vaporeon. Good teammates are Pokemon that can help against faster threats such as Ribombee and the previously mentioned Choice Scarf Passimian. Both Silvally-Fairy and Silvally-Steel make for good teammates, as they can check these threats and bring Scrafty onto the field with Parting Shot. Wallbreakers like Magmortar and Clawitzer can weaken bulky Pokemon such as Weezing and Aromatisse, making it easier for Scrafty to clean up the match.
