This my first time making a RMT ever on Smogon, I've been playing on showdown since SUMO but I really only got into comp OU in Gen 8. Pretty much been a mid ladder player since gen 8, I usually have my alts anywhere from 1500-1700 and one of the reasons I think I struggle is that I usually suck at teambuilding, and so I lurk on this forum a lot. Recently though I made a team that I think is pretty decent, so I thought I would take the opportunity to share it and maybe get some criticism/feedback.
The inspiration for building this team was that I wanted to use Scarf Sneasler. The idea of being able to u-turn on something like a tusk and rather than just dealing 5%, inflict poison sounded very enticing, and so the start of the teambuilding process revolved around Scarf Sneasler. Sneasler is usually going to be the fastest mon on either side in a given game, especially given it gets the jump on booster valiant. While sneasler wants to spam dire claw and U turn in most games, dont be afraid to click switcheroo on something obnoxious like a Skeledirge that really wants its boots, or a set up sweeper that would break past Corvi or the specially defensive backbone.
Sneasler @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Poison Touch
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dire Claw
- U-turn
- Close Combat
- Switcheroo
Pretty much mandatory on a team using poison touch sneasler is a mon that clicks hex, and so I decided to go with a wisp pult set to be the special counterpart to the fast offense sneasler provides as well as to help with the teams matchup against dangerous set up sweepers. Pult is pretty much essential on this team imo because without the fast wisp+infiltrator it provides, the team can very much struggle against stuff like Sub+SD shifu or Sub+ID zama.
Dragapult @ Spell Tag
Ability: Infiltrator
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hex
- Will-O-Wisp
- Draco Meteor
- U-turn
Corviknight was the third mon and the first component on the defensive backbone for this team. Defog Corvi is imo, despite Gholdengo existing, the only consistent way to keep hazards off in this metagame, especially with now how it matches up well against the two new hazard setters, HRott and Kleavor, especially with rocky helmet. Its also this teams most consistent check to Dnite/Chien Pao (although there really arent any consistent checks to those two unless they waste tera) With tera water it is also the team's consistent Urshifu check, although if you can pivot in pult safely, burning it makes your life significantly easier.
Corviknight @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- U-turn
- Brave Bird
- Defog
- Roost
The next mon I added to the team is a personal favorite of mine, and the first member of the teams specially defensive duo. Glowking offers Future Sight+Chilly Receptionn support which is immense in helping this team break through the physical walls that prevent sneasler from clicking CC too freely. Future Sight obviously blows away Tusk, but despite hitting for neutral/resisted damage, future sight can make a big difference against something like a Corviknight or Dozo, especially with rocks up. I chose to run EQ and sludge on this Glowking, because I think sludge as a stab is good and EQ alleviates a lot of the pressure of constant prediction in matchups against Heatran.
Slowking-Galar @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Chilly Reception
- Earthquake
- Future Sight
- Sludge Bomb
The second member of this teams specially defensive backbone, and a mon that I think is criminally underrated and underutilized right now is sp def Garg. Sp Def Garg is the get out of jail free card a lot of the time in terms of damage output with this team. With salt cure, it does an amazing job of harassing the opponents bulky cores, and Garg makes keeping rocks up really easy with all of the free turns it gets, something that is very important to help sneasler poke holes. It also is the teams ghost resist and is a huge help against Dirge, although if people start running covert dirge again that will be a problem. You can sub out tera fairy for tera water if you want, depends if you are struggling a lot with scarf ghold and sun teams.
Garganacl @ Leftovers
Ability: Purifying Salt
Tera Type: Fairy/Water
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Recover
- Stealth Rock
- Salt Cure
- Curse
For the final member of this team, I decided that I wanted a physical breaker that could help break down the team for Sneasler. CB Great Tusk fits that role perfectly, and it also provides a decent amount of physical bulk to help Corvi out against things like gambit. Tusk is able to click knock off pretty freely on many of the ghost types in the tier that are expecting a Close Combat, and its particularly nice for Sneasler when something like Dirge is at 40 and without boots. Overall Tusk helps round out the team by adding a little bit of bulk and a whole lot of power.
Great Tusk @ Choice Band
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Headlong Rush
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Ice Spinner
My peak with this team is in the 1700s, which I know is not all that impressive but I am mainly posting this just for fun and to hopefully receive a little feedback. Heres the full paste if you dont feel like scrolling through and copying each mon. https://pokepast.es/cc06f99482c7816f
