Samurott's Revenge.

Hi guys, this is basically my first foray into NU and pokemon in general after a long hiatus. This is the first team that I have had decent success with, peaking at about 1800 despite my [generally] terrible play, although i have not laddered using JUST this team, the vast majority of my games have been using this same core.

Hope you guys can give me some suggestions to improve!

The Team:

Samurott @ Life Orb
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Taunt
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Grass]

This is your standard Special Samurott and boy is he fucking amazing. I have no idea why he is like in the 30s in usage when hes so freaking strong, a hydro pump from this monster demolishes everything that doesn't resist. I generally lead with this bad boy, taunt their stealth rock user, then hydro pump whoever comes in for massive damage. If their lead is a speedy fucker, such as Scolipede then i generally just hydro pump him for the ohko. Samurott 2HKO's a majority of the tier, with even Regice taking about 40% from a hydro pump, 2hko after rocks.

Klang @ Eviolite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 84 HP / 252 Atk / 172 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Gear Grind
- Shift Gear
- Return
- Substitute

Klang is a new-ish addition to my team, I originally had 2 scarfers on my team, and instead of Klang i had a scarf Tauros. But i felt like i didnt need so much speed, so i opted for a bulky set-up sweeper. I generally try to take out the counters for Klang first, then switch in on something easy, sub and shift. Despite how easily he can come in, he is countered by a lot of the fighting types in the tier, as well as annoying shit like golurk that i have to look out for.

Eelektross @ Choice Specs
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Giga Drain
- Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt

Eelektross is the second part of my special sweeper core, along with Samurott. This poke is amazing, he has immunity to spikes and toxic spikes, can come in on most pokes due to his bulk and lack of weaknesses, and destroys everything with a specs thunderbolt. Similarily to Samurott, specs eelektross 2HKOs the majority of the tier, hence his high usage rate.

Luxray @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Superpower
- Wild Charge
- Crunch
- Ice Fang

Luxray is the newest member of the team. I originally had a scarf Pinsir here, but he felt pretty underwhelming, as his stab was resisted by a lot of things, such as Mis and Haunter. I'm currently trialling Luxray, and he's doing pretty well so far, able to come in on threats such as Primeape, take a hit, and KO back, as well as outspeeding any non-boosted pokes, and KO'ing threats such a braviary who don't expect to be outsped. I'm open to suggestions here.

Golbat @ Eviolite
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 248 HP / 228 Def / 32 Spd
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Taunt
- Brave Bird
- Super Fang

I absolutely adore Golbat. I feel like he's extremely underrated. His physical bulk is actually very impressive, with 4x resist to fighting. I generally switch him in on a physical theat such as primeape, or a cleric, and proceed to disable with taunt and weaken with super fang, or go for the ko with brave bird.

However golbat does have major weaknesses to ice, psychic, electric and worst of all rock (fucking stealth rock), which can reduce his effectiveness. But this can all be played around in my opinion.

Cradily @ Leftovers
Trait: Suction Cups
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Giga Drain
- Rock Slide
- Toxic

Cradily is my special tank, and rocks user. His job is to come in on a non-threat, set-up rocks, inflict status and do some damage. I had storm drain on him before, but it seems like every fucking goon these days is running that fucking liepard assist team, so I changed his ability to suction cups to counter that. Cradily's damage output is also underrated with rock slide and giga drain doing a good chunk of damage on certain targets.

So that's the team guys, would be appreciated if you guys could provide feedback.

Cheers, AleeT.

hey! so while i like this team, i've noticed that you have a strong weakness to np jynx. if luxray and klang are not maintained throughout the match, jynx easily steamrolls through four of your Pokemon, and has an easy time forcing switches while getting ample opportunities to set up with lovely kiss. the other thing i've also noticed is that a defensive core of cradily + golbat has horrible synergy, while you don't particularly need a "special wall".

what i would do is suggest changing cradily -> ground gem golem, which maintains stealth rocks on your team and gives you a better check to jynx. golem also has extremely good synergy with the rest of your team, as golbat handles fighting and ground moves that golem hates, while golem takes eats up electric moves aimed at samurott.

secondly, i would switch luxray -> scarf primeape. luxray is alright, but he doesn't really hit that hard, and is a more of a gimmick than anything against a smart player. primeape helps patch up some weaknesses against faster pokemon, provides a voltturn core with eelektross, and along with golem threatens the steel types (specifically metang) klang has problems with. u-turn is also a handy momentum grabber.

lastly, i'd switch eelektross's item to life orb and run an ev spread of 132 hp/252satk/124spd. eelektross and samurott make a solid life orb wallbreaking core, but i mainly suggest life orb over choice specs so that ground types like golurk, seismitoad, and golem can't switch in with ease and get off a free stealth rocks or eq because you're locked into an electric move. the ev spread allows you to outrun alomomola, while the leftover ev's are dumped into hp.

good luck!
