Safari Zone

Is there a statistically better solution to the Safari Zone pokemon catching other than simply throwing safari balls at pokemon? Is it better to throw mud first, or throw bait before that? I feel my quest to find a Black Sludge may be a bit shortened due to the unstable catching technique of the Safari Zone.

Well, for one, when you find the area where Croagunk or Toxicroak reside, stand in the middle of a grassy area and "spin" your character around instead of walking around. That is, if you're facing north, press any direction but UP, and so on, essentially spinning in place. This will net you lots of encounters without counting down yor time in the Great Marsh.

I haven't ran into any Pokemon that seem to require throwing something to catch like Yellow version's Dragonair in D/P so I can't answer that specifically.

This could have easily gone in Simple Question/Simple answers, however.

I got so annoyed with finding Skorupi\Crogunk in the Safari Zone that I went on the GTS and traded away a L100 Jirachi for someone's L22 Skorupi. Hey, I had plenty of clones of it, and it seemed a lot easier then spending an hour or two hunting for one that would stay in its ball.

You are not required to throw stuff to catch "Yellow's Dragonair", you can catch it just by throwing a Safari Ball w/out anything else. And their are Dragonairs in the Safari Park in FR/LG/R/B/G as well, so yeah.

I spent 3/4 of an hour in the Park spinning on the spot trying to catch a Shroomish... have they changed the Safari catch formula again?

Required? No. But if it doesn't run you can catch it with one ball.

New pokes are added every day, and the rare ones (shroomish, kangaskahn, yanma) only a have a 3% encounter rate, while others (croagunk, scorupi, carnivine) have a 10% encounter rate. Pests like marill and psyduck appear much more frequently.

In Emerald at least (I'm not sure if GameFreak changed this, but I doubt they did), throwing rocks (mud) would make a pokemon easier to catch, but more likely to flee. In contrast, throwing bait will make a pokemon less likely to run, but harder to catch. However, I find that many pokemon can be caught simply by throwing a Safari Ball.

I've noticed the only way I can catch Croagunk is to simply throw Safari Balls.

If you bait them, they'll run before you can catch them.

In R/S/E, you can't throw rocks/mud at the Pokemon. You can either creep closer, or throw a PokeBlock at it. If it likes the flavor, it'll stay. If not, tough. It will flee. I know about this stuff.

So to find Croagunk am I supposed to continuously look through binoculars until I find one on a spot (I did try once for about half an hour with no luck)? And then go to that spot and keep spinning until I find it? Also does compound eyes work in the Great Marsh?

Funny, I thought the catch rate was easier in this generation then previous ones. I caught the second Skorupi I saw, and a few Croagunk's as well, all with ease.

o_o

Anyways, I used to use skorupi babies for trade fodder. I've moved onto gibles (jolly with 31s in spd/attack and crap defenses) in hopes that maybe one of the people I happen to trade with will appreciate them.

I love the spinning around in one place idea posted earlier. I've found more success just throwing as many balls as possible at a guy instead of food and rocks. Whenever I see a croagunk, skorupi, carnivine, or a rare old guy I just chuck away (I figure multiples can't hurt, since they are harder to catch and then use down the line for breeding purposes).

There are too many Bibarel and Bidoof, well every where really but it's even more annoying in safari zone.

Ben's got it right. Never throw mud, ever. Just toss those balls around and hope for the best. I got Croagunk, Drapion and Carnivine that way. They will flee 90% of the time on the first mud toss, and i never even caught one that hung around.

o0, I tend to just throw mud, then a ball and they generally get in. First Croagunk I saw, I did that. Then got a Black Sludge from it :D

By the way, can anyone seem to capture Whiscash/Quagsire? I mean, after throwing 9 muds in a row at them, I still couldn't get them in the damn ball.

it's easier in a corner, too. no chance of moving if you dont want to!

TAKE THAT, ESTABLISHMENT!
