[SET COMMENTS]
Runerigus's small niche in UU stems from its titanic physical bulk and excellent defensive typing, making it a sturdy check to Pokemon like Cobalion, Gigalith, and Rhyperior; its most important factor, though, is its ability to completely wall Toxtricity, an extremely lethal Pokemon that would otherwise decimate the defensive teams Runerigus fits on. Unfortunately, it suffers from many issues; its lack of recovery and vulnerability to all forms of entry hazards make it easy to wear down, and its poor Attack stat makes it quite passive. In addition, it's prone to giving free turns to extremely dangerous Pokemon like Celebi, Roserade, and Reuniclus, all of which can either threaten it out or use it as setup fodder. Thus, Runerigus is generally tough to fit on teams. Runerigus also has a poor matchup against common entry hazard removers like Galarian Weezing, Tsareena, and Noivern. Will-O-Wisp makes it easier for Runerigus to check the physical attackers it's meant to deal with and makes Pokemon like Pangoro think twice before switching into it. Body Press gives Runerigus coverage for Pokemon like Pangoro, Umbreon, and Incineroar, notably being unaffected by the latter's Intimidate. Toxic Spikes can be used over either Will-O-Wisp or Body Press, though it makes Runerigus more passive overall. It can also be used over Stealth Rock if another Pokemon on Runerigus's team can fit the latter.
Runerigus is very passive, so it fits best on balanced or defensive teams that can make up for its shortcomings. Pokemon like Vileplume and Galarian Weezing make for good partners that can check threats to Runerigus like Pangoro and, in Galarian Weezing's case, Incineroar. Galarian Weezing can also provide Defog support; it is worth noting that both Galarian Weezing and Runerigus are weak to Roserade, though. In return, Runerigus can help to ease the matchup against Lucario and Cobalion. Sylveon is a very important partner for Runerigus, providing it with Wish and Heal Bell support as well as checking Noivern, an extremely prominent Pokemon that completely walls Runerigus. Vaporeon and Umbreon can perform similar roles, with each helping out Runerigus in different ways; Vaporeon can handle Pokemon like Inteleon, while Umbreon can handle Pokemon like Chandelure, both of which are big threats to Runerigus. Milotic can also handle Pokemon like Inteleon and Chandelure decently, while also checking Reuniclus. In return, Runerigus can check Electric-types like Heliolisk and Toxtricity for Vaporeon and Milotic, and Fighting-types like Cobalion and Lucario for Umbreon. Noivern can take Grass- and Water-type attacks aimed at Runerigus from the likes of Roserade and Rotom-W, though it must be careful when switching into both Pokemon. It can also act as a secondary check to Swords Dance Cobalion, since Runerigus is vulnerable to chip damage, and act as a form of entry hazard removal. Steel-types like Bronzong and Escavalier can check problematic Pokemon like Roserade and Celebi for Runerigus, and they appreciate its ability to handle Fighting-types like Cobalion in return. Escavalier, particularly Swords Dance variants, can also help to combat Reuniclus, which sets up on Runerigus for free.
