SS OU Rmt ssou: Specs Regieleki offense Peak: 1550

I wanted to build a team around Specs Regieleki because after looking at calcs I realised it does insane damage to any mon that isn't immune and can do lots of damage to resists that switch in with Volt switch. This team relies a lot on predicting when your opponent is going to bring their ground type in and you doubling it into mons that can get free damage in the team matchup.

First mon:
regieleki.gif

Regieleki @ Choice Specs
Ability: Transistor
EVs: 4 Hp / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Ancient Power
- Rising Voltage

Self explanatory it is the mon that I decided to build the team around and my lead against any team that doesn't have a ground type due to the fact that it outspeeds every mon in the metagame and is guaranteed to get a volt switch or thunderbolt off on whatever switches in. Thunderbolt is main stab move and the thing that I click most the time whenever there is a mon that isn't immune or resists electric and it OHKOS essentially all mons that don't resist making it a great cleaner. Volt switch for pivoting out on a resist that switches in and doing tons of damage. Ancient power helps it kill lando that switches in if it is chipped a lot. Rising voltage is to take advantage of opposing Tapu Kokos as that is not a great match up for me and rising voltage OHKOS koko with full hp.

Second Mon:
weavile.gif

Weavile @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Knock Off

After Regieleki, the first thing that I thought was I need something that can kill grounds. Weavile is one of the best mons in the current metagame and it can prevents mons such as Scale shot Garchomp, Rillaboom and Landorus with its strong priority in ice shard as well as providing knock of support which can do crucial chip to mons preventing them from healing with leftovers. This is a mon that I often double into when I have regieleki out and they have a ground out. I use icicle crash over triple axel because it is much more important I get reliable damage and the guaranteed kill (ignoring the 10% chance) instead of the possibility of a 120 bp triple axel.

Third Mon:
heatran.gif

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock

Heatran is extremely good at luring ground types such as Garchomp and Landorus in and can do lots of chip damage with Magma storm. I put Stealth Rock on it so that it can get hazards up whilst the opponent is switching out. I am torn on whether I put rocks on Lando and toxic on Heatran and even if I should put flash cannon and heatran and make it flame body to punish pivoting and do reliable chip with flash cannon on incoming mons. I am definitely open to changing the set on Heatran to whatever people reading would reccomend/think is better.

Fourth Mon
corviknight.gif

Corviknight @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD
Impish Nature
- Defog
- Roost
- U-turn
- Brave Bird

Yes it is another dual steel core - Corviknight is one of the best defensive mons in the ou metagame at the moment and it walls mons that could threaten my team such as Rillaboom and Excadrill as well as Lando and doing pretty well against Garchomp. I have spdef investment so it can take a hit from no specs magnezone and pivot out safely into another mon that can kill. It is essential that this mon stays alive as without I get destroyed by Excadrill. I chose Rocky Helmet over leftovers because it can do crucial chip damage to Landorus switching out.

Fifth Mon:
urshifu-rapid-strike.gif

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike @ Choice Band
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Surging Strikes
- U-turn
- Aqua Jet
- Close Combat

Standard Urshifu set gives me another option against ground types and has good synergy with Weavile as well as providing crucial momentum and chip damage this eases my rain mu a tiny bit as it means I have a way to punish them however rain is a horrible matchup for me. Pivoting out on mons like toxapex can allow eleki to claim a free kill (if lando is dead) as well as being a great way to stop mons such as Blaziken and Volcarona from sweeping with Aqua jet and can do massive damage with Close combat if I am able to click it for free.

Sixth Mon:
landorus-therian.gif

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 228 SpD / 28 Spe
Careful Nature
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Toxic

Lando set to provide utility such as knock off and toxic to wear down ground types such as opposing Landorus and Garchomp as well as providing more momentum for my team. It helps in easing my zeraora matchup which is a mon that without this i can do barely anything against it. This mon is spdef so that I can do stuff against Arctozolt and has enough speed investment to out speed modest zone with no investment and Arctozolt outside of hail. I am open to changing the moveset on this and maybe swapping some moves with Heatran as well.

Threats:
Volcanion: Nothing I have wants to switch into it and my best bet against it is revenge killing with eleki or just pummeling it with band close combat from shifu.
Rain: Shitty mu for me i have to abuse shifu in rain and try to stall out their turns and kill there ground. Once rain setter is dead it shouldn't be hard.

Please tell me any recommendations you have to improve this team. The only thing I insist on is keeping Specs Regieleki.

Hello Nir1x. I’m here to rate your team and give you suggestions to improve it.

I like the idea of using Regieleki :regieleki:, as it is, in my opinion, an underrated Pokemon with an interesting potential in OU. Sure, this thing needs a lot of support to get pass through the opposing Ground type, but once the Ground type is dead, Regieleki becomes almost impossible to stop. Urshifu-R :urshifu-rapid-strike: and Weavile :weavile: are two great offensive Pokemon who apply a lot of pressure on Ground types and can take advantage of Regieleki forcing things like Landorus-T to come on a double switch and try breaking the opposing team. Coviknight :corviknight: is a good defensive pivot and the best answer to a lot of threatening breakers. SpD Landorus-T :landorus-therian: is also a great pivot and defensive Pokemon that goes well with Corviknight. However, I’m less convinced by Heatran :heatran: as I feel you can already use Landorus-T to deal with some special threats and set Rocks. Sure, Heatran can be a useful offensive presence, but this team struggles way too much against Rain and Urshifu-R and thus, having a Water resist in this slot could greatly improve this kind of matchup. I also think that, even if you can double switch on your two Ground killers when you have Regieleki on the field, you may have a hard time breaking cores like Landorus-T + Toxapex + Corviknight which are very common and can just autopilot against your team, having decent answers to most of your offensive options.

I will focus my suggestions on bettering the poor Rain/Urshifu-R matchup as well as trying to give a way to force progress against Ground types a bit more efficiently so that Regieleki can truly shine. Let’s dive into the changes!

Major Changes

:heatran: -> :tapu fini:: Heatran doesn’t seem that much useful here and, as a Water resistance is more than required to deal with Urshifu and the Rain matchup, I would suggest using a defensive bulky Water type in this slot. Tapu fini is a nice candidate. It is a very good Weavile answer, alleviate Heatran pressure on Landorus-T and helps a lot against things like Urshifu-R and Barraskewda (even though Toxapex is better against those). Tapu Fini also help against Garchomp and, even if it can beat on its own a Swords Dance Garchomp, it is able to weaken it and leave it in Weavile or even Regieleki range. Last nice thing with Tapu Fini is that with a Calm Mind set it can be a deadly threat and smack unprepared teams. A trapping set could also work to trap and delete Toxapex for Weavile/Urshifu-R. Here is the set I would use:

tapufini.gif

Tapu Fini @ Leftovers
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 192 Def / 64 Spe
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Taunt
- Draining Kiss
- Scald

An alternative in this slot could be to use a mixed Def Toxapex with Toxic Spikes over Tapu Fini so that you can force Poison on Ground types likes Garchomp and Hippowdon. You could even consider a Future Sight Slowbro to pressure Ground types, but you will be left weaker to Weavile.

:urshifu-rapid-strike: -> :tapu koko:: I think you should remove one of your two physical breakers and add a Tapu Koko instead. Why? Because Tapu Koko is insane with Regieleki. Against most team, the Ground type to beat will be Garchomp or Landorus-T and Tapu Koko is really good at chipping these down. It often forces Landorus-T to come in and take chips which can greatly help Regieleki cleaning. It also gives it Electric Terrain support so that it becomes out of control with Rising Voltage when Ground types are removed. If the opponent doesn’t want to weaken its Ground type (or Zeraora), he will have to deal with a Tapu Koko without using an Electric immunity which is hard for a lot of teams. Now, who should you replace with Tapu Koko. I think replacing Urshifu-R and keeping Weavile makes more sense as Weavile helps more against Garchomp and can help against Kyurem. Weavile also bring a good Knock Off user and a pseudo answer to Dragapult if Landorus-T is low in health. It can also annoy Dragon types like Dragonite who may be hard to deal with for Regieleki. Anyway, here is the set I would use for Tapu Koko, feel free to replace Weavile and not Urshifu-R if you want, but I really encourage you to keep Weavile:

tapukoko.gif

Tapu Koko @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam
- U-turn
- Roost

Minor Changes

:regieleki:: The star of the show. Without Tapu Koko I would have said that Rising Voltage is not worth it. As you have a Koko now, it’s your best option when Electric terrain is up. I would just adjust the spread as you don’t need to be fully invested in Speed and a bit of bulk could help taking some hits (as Regieleki is really frail and a bit of bulk can help avoiding some OHKOs). I used one of the spreads in this thread: https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/ss-ou-speed-tiers.3672175/. I also think that that Swift (even though it’s a trash move) is a bit better than Ancient Power as it’s not resisted by Ground types and can finish more easily a weaken Garchomp or Hippowdon while still doing the same damage to Landorus-t. Lastly, Rapid Spin could be an option over Thunderbolt with Heavy Duty Boots over Choice Specs so that you can fire a move into clicking Volt Switch. But a Choice Specs set is fine too and can be extremely threatening when well used. Here is the set:

regieleki.gif

Regieleki @ Choice Specs
Ability: Transistor
EVs: 80 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 172 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Swift
- Rising Voltage

:landorus-therian:: I would just use Stealth Rock over Knock Off as I removed the former Rocker which was Heatran. You can also consider removing Toxic and keeping Knock Off, both are good options, and their utility is a bit matchup dependent. As you have Weavile to Knock Off things, you can in my opinion keep Toxic (even though it can be sometimes annoying with Tapu Fini terrain) but it’s up to you.

:corviknight:: I would change Brave Bird for Body Press as it helps more against Bisharp, Weavile and Kartana. Sure, Brave Bird is slightly better against Garchomp (and Rillaboom, but Rillaboom is rather rare), but you can always U-turn into Weavile when you’re facing Garchomp. I would also replace the Rocky Helmet by Leftovers. This is because you have Tapu Fini now for Urshifu-R and Weavile and having this extra recovery when you are often forced to come on Rocks and sometimes to take chip before U-turning is nice. Rocky Helmet may be useful to punish U-turn users and especially Landorus-T, but Leftovers are a bit better in my opinion.

:weavile:: Triple Axel is often better than Icicle Crash, but you can go for Crash if you are too afraid to miss (even though Cras can also miss).

And that’s all for the suggestions, here is the team with the changes I’ve proposed, feel free to try it out:
