This thread contains the general RMT rules along with useful resources and guidelines that will help make your RMT detailed, concise and a more pleasant reading experience, which goes a long way towards attracting the attention of team raters and viewers.
Here is an excellent tool that will convert an importable version of your team into a BBcode-formatted RMT thread. All you have to do is paste your team in, select some formatting options, write the descriptions for your Pokemon and then post your RMT! You don't need to worry about any formatting work; the tool takes care of all of it. It includes ready-made images and lists all the sections relevant to RMT threads, such as the teambuilding process, threatlist and each Pokemon's role. There are several formatting options as well for you to choose from. All credit to Nineage and TheFenderStory for building this!
Here is an in-depth manual by Tangerine on how to effectively write an RMT. It covers every aspect that you should consider before posting your team, and following the guidelines listed will give you all the essentials necessary to help you get the most out of your RMT experience. In particular:

Here are the basic rules that you must read before posting an RMT. These are the bare minimum guidelines that you need to stick to. Not following them will result in a moderator locking your thread:
RMT Rules

If you're wondering where you should post your team, here are the tiers accepted in each forum:
SM OU Teams: Any SM team that is OU.
SM Other Teams: Any SM team that is not OU.
Past Gen Teams: Any RBY, GSC, ADV, DPP, BW, or ORAS team for the following tiers: Ubers, OU, UU, RU, NU, LC, Doubles.
Please follow these simple rules when making a RMT:
#1. Don't post incomplete teams - this means having all six Pokemon with EV spreads and moves.
#2. Make sure your team is competitive, and play with your team before putting it up for rate. We as a community want teams that have been battle tested so that the obvious flaws have been hammered out. This is particularly because just by playing with a team, you yourself can figure out what is wrong with your team. You don't need other people to help you quite yet - and to be blunt, you're just being lazy or have the wrong idea of what the RMT forum is if you're posting teams you spent fifteen minutes creating. Make a team, stick with it, play for it for a while, and then come back and ask for help. We’re not going to make perfect teams for you.
#3. Learn the game and lurk more if you are inexperienced. While many of the teams require a complete overhaul simply because the team has not been tested, many other teams require complete overhaul because the team maker has little idea what they may be doing. Posting the team is then a fruitless endeavour - instead sign up for the Apprentice Program or take the time to better learn the game on your own.
#4. Be descriptive. Be as detailed as possible. Each Pokémon on your team should have a small paragraph describing these 3 things: 1) A reason for choosing that Pokémon, 2) the Pokémon's role on the team, and 3) a short description of its set. Don't forget to mention exactly what your Pokémon brings to the team. Here are examples of what to do, and what not to do:
We recommend at least three lines of description for each Pokemon. Having three lines is not absolutely mandatory, but it's a good guideline to gauge if you have written enough or not.
#5. Use a readable format (PO or PS importable are good) and layout (no annoying fonts, colours etc). Images are not necessary, but definitely help make your RMT more attractive for raters to read. Here is a comprehensive list of image resources and instructions on how to include images in your RMT:

#6. You can only post one new RMT every two weeks, and don't "bump" your team more than once.

Here is an in-depth manual by Tangerine on how to effectively write an RMT. It covers every aspect that you should consider before posting your team, and following the guidelines listed will give you all the essentials necessary to help you get the most out of your RMT experience. In particular:
- PLAY WITH YOUR TEAM BEFORE PUTTING IT UP FOR RATE. We as a community cannot emphasize this enough. No one wants to rate the team that you freshly created while eating breakfast or the gimmick you randomly put together. We as a community want teams that have been battle tested so that the obvious flaws have been hammered out. Make a team, stick with it, play for it for a while, and then come back and ask for help.
- IF YOU'RE NEW TO COMPETITIVE BATTLING, LEARN THE GAME AND LURK MORE. Rushing over to the RMT forum for help might not be the best solution. Many other teams require complete overhaul because the poster has little idea what they may be doing. Posting the team is then a fruitless endeavour - instead, sign up for the Apprentice Program or take the time to better learn the game on your own.
- BE DESCRIPTIVE. BE AS DETAILED AS POSSIBLE. If we don't know how your team works, we can only assume things about your team - and that does not lead to good rates. The more descriptive you are about your teams and your weaknesses and what you would like for your team, the more effectively we as raters can help you. Tell us how each member contributes. You can do this by telling us why you chose a specific Pokemon and how it contributes to the overall picture.

Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Iron Head
- Ice Punch
- U-turn
- Healing Wish
I decided to use Jirachi because I needed a Steel type and a Revenge Killer for my team. [1] It's my only Fairy resist, being able to switch into stuff like Gardevoir. It also handles fast threats that my team would otherwise have issues with. [2] Ice Punch is needed to revenge-kill DD Dragonite who is a massive threat to my team. Healing Wish provides my team valuable support, and the Scarf is needed so that Jirachi can revenge-kill various threats. [3]

this is similar to the first format, but it is center-aligned, uses boldface Verdana at size 5 as headers (compared to the first format, which uses un-boldfaced size 6 Verdana as headers) and adds a teambuilding process section.
