SM OU RMT M-Mawile Team

Hello :)

I´m new in singles and this is the first time i write here. I usually play VGC but i want to perform teams in order to play singles. And this team is my first team on the format so i would like your opinion. Thanks so much!

130

Mawile @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Thunder Punch
- Play Rough
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch

Okay. I will start with the mega. Mawile is one of my favourite megas. Without Metagross-Mega, I think mawile is the best option in order to kill tapus and her weakness arre very common but they are easy to stop with the partners. So I think is a very good option to begin. Intimidate, huge power... priority... I don´t know. I like it.

Adamant natura inm order to do the best damage she can and de the EV Spread... well, I just copy from Trosko, so I don´t know exactly why this EV Spread.

120

Garchomp @ Dragonium Z
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Outrage
- Fire Fang

Okay... I will continue with Garchomp- Garchomp is a very common pokemon in this gen. It doesn´t matter if we talk about VGC or Singles. Garchomp makes a part of the team Core with Mawile and Lando-T. Yeah, from Trosko too :V

Attacks are very easy to understand why. Only you can change Fire fang Slot. I´m using Mawile so tapus i think t´s not a problem so i think is better fire fang than Poison jab to inflict more damage to celesteela, skarmory and ferrothorn.

The Z move, Draconium, brings me de posibility to inflict huge damage to everything except fairy types. I think es safety than groundium Z (Skarmory, celesteela, Lando-T, Latios...)

In this slot, i have a doubt. I don´t know if would be better this chomp or a Kyurem-B with Icyum Z and Mixed Attacker

132

Landorus-Therian @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 232 Def / 28 Spe
Impish Nature
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [ice]
- Stealth Rock
People tell me SR are very necesary on singles so here is my setter XD The EV Spread i don´t know why exactly... yeah, a bulky landorus-T but has not Attack lol HP ice in order to kill other Landorus-T and Chomp

140

Tapu Lele @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Thunderbolt

Tapu lele inflicts a lot of damage always and i like it because makes me the possibility to ignore priuority. Timid Scarf to be faster than other Scarf as Adamant Chomp. Hp fire to ferro and scizor. Thunderbolt to celesteela, bulky water what are dangerous to chomp and lando and skarmory.

120

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 196 HP / 144 Def / 168 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Toxic
- Earth Power
- Scald
- Recover

I don´t know if would be better fini or gastrodon. I put gastrodon here because i want to use Toxic and quit a problem: Hippowdown. I have no way to KO Hippo and it makes me a problem, because it can set SR and inflict good damage. I can´t defog the rocks and it´s difficult for me play against hippo without a bulky water. But fini can use defog and taunt, but chomp has Draconium so.. i don´t know if is good playing both sets in the same team.

170

Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- U-turn
- Gunk Shot
- Scald
- Ice Beam

In order to end, greninja. I prefer protean because makes me more coverage and inflict more dagame than Ash. Also, ash has water shuriken and i play with psychic terrain so i don´t know if is a good idea.

I know Spikes is one of the most used moves but i dont like. I don´t know why you use Spikes and not SR, so i prefer to play with all out attacker greninja.

I prefer mixed in order to have momentum with u-turn and help mawile to kill tapus with gunk shot. Scald to burn and make damage and ice beam to ground types... even though i think HP grass to rootom-W wuold be a good idea too.

Sorry my bad english and i hope you can help me and explain me the wv spread i don´t know XD

Thanks so much :)

hey there, MagmorYT, cool team. mega mawile is one of my favourite mega evolutions, and garchomp is a great partner for it, so props with that. a couple of blatant issues can be seen with this team, though. most notably the lack of a secondary steel-type to cushion the hits from lele, and dragon moves for mega mawile; mega mawile, especially with as little bulk you listed, basically mandates a secondary steel onto the team. furthermore, your team has an incredibly poor match-up against arguably the most threatening breaker in the tier: charizard-y, along with a horrific match-up vs. volcarona. the suggestions i'll make will improve said issues, whilst improving the efficacy and flow of the time overall. the team also has an abysmal matchup against mega pinsir.
major changes

the first major change i'd suggest is to exchange greninja for celesteela. honestly considering garchomp+sd mega mawile is on the team, i didn't feel as though greninja was necessary, and a pokemon that offers the defensive utility to form a strong backbone was a more suiting fit. hence, i chose to use celesteela in leu of greninja, giving you a second solid ground-resist, a second dragon+psychic+fairy switchin, and a pinsir answer, with incredible bulk & pseudo recovery in leech seed. furthermore, leech seed+gastrodon, leech seed+landorus, and leech seed+garchomp are all serendipitously great combinations. a standard specially defensive spread will help you in taking on what celesteela aims to do on this team.

the second, and final major change isn't really that major at all, honestly; and it's replacing scarf lele with scarf latios. running latios over lele gives you a plethora of advantages. the most notable two, though is its ability to outpace and handle volcarona after a quiver dance, either killing it with two psyshocks, or being lured by bug buzz and leaving volcarona in range of sucker punch from mega mawile.
minor changes
  • 303-m.png
minor spread alteration from 92 hp / 252 atk / 164 spe to 104 hp / 232 atk / 172 spe. the given spread allows mega mawile to always survive dugtrio's earthquake, whilst maintaining the speed creep on skarmory, plus a couple of points extra for good measure. still hits incredibly hard and doesn't miss out on any really notable kills at +2 compared its max attack counterpart.
  • 423-e.png
altered both gastrodon's set and spread. replacing
earth power with earthquake will allow you to check shift gear+calm mind magearna more effectively. furthermore, i changed the spread to 252 hp / 4 def / 252 spd; the additional special bulk aids gastrodon immensely in checking/countering pokemon such as greninja, heatran, magearna, latios, and gengar.

to be frank though dragonium z is an incredibly good item on garchomp, especially paired with pokemon that appreciate steel-type pokemon and landorus-t being weakened; your set is unviable. a more suitable set to run would be
outrage / earthquake / swords dance / substitute. this set provides a great balance breaker vs passive pokemon such as toxapex, and can be played incredibly aggressively to severely dent steel-types and landorus-t (the latter of which you can win a predication vs. and get a free sub, denying their intimidate on their next entry). substitute also assists greatly in 50/50s in situations such as garchomp vs. heatran with a latios in the back.

Hello, I was having a chat with tigers jaw regarding this team and figured I'd post to share my views too.

Looks like a solid team up front, but there are a few apparent weaknesses. I fully agree with tj regarding the need for another Steel-type to take hits from the likes of Mega Pinsir, Tapu Bulu and Tapu Lele, as Mawile is simply not bulky enough to rely on and a balanced team such as this really needs a solid switch-in to those threats. As such, I completely agree with tj's suggestion of Celesteela. However, I propose replacing Garchomp with Celesteela instead of Greninja. The reason for this is because of your heavy weakness to Mega Charizard Y and Volcarona, which tj pointed out as well. In order to remedy this, I'd recommend keeping Gren but running a Scarf on it instead. This allows Gren to easily outspeed and KO Mega Charizard and +1 Volcarona, while providing the team with an excellent failsafe against various threats, including Latios, Mega Tyranitar, Mega Gyarados and the Tapus. The standard moveset should work well here:

Greninja @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Rock Slide
- U-turn
- Ice Beam
- Gunk Shot

I also agree with tj's suggestion of Latios over Tapu Lele, but here I'd recommend running the standard Life Orb + Defog set instead of Scarf. With Scarf Gren you don't have to worry much about revenge killing Mega Charizard and Volcarona, and I feel that LO Latios's wallbreaking capabilities will definitely help after losing Garchomp. Furthermore, this Latios's access to Roost makes it a much more reliable answer to Mega Charizard Y and Keldeo as compared to Scarf. Defog also provides some much needed hazard control support to your team. The standard set of Draco Meteor / Psychic / Defog / Roost should do fine.

My final suggestion is to run a more offensive Landorus-T with Rockium Z and a moveset of EQ / SR / Swords Dance / Stone Edge, which can aid Mega Mawile by performing a similar role that Garchomp did before as an early-game wallbreaker. I also think tj's changes regarding Mawile's EV spread and Earthquake over EP on Grastrodon are solid. Good luck and I hope my suggestions help!
