SM OU RMT: Gen7 OU - Current Ladder Elo 1445

Hello everyone!

I'm a fan of pokemon since red/blue, and have finished every game of the series so far. But, for some reason, I never entered the Competitive World ._. Anyway, this year I decided that I'll make my best to learn about the competitive scenario and play to win (sure, to have fun too, but the main goal will be WINNING!).

The problem is... I'm a noob T-T Plain simple noob. I tried my luck with random pokemons and random team for sometime and never got past 1200 Elo ._. But this week I came with a team that finally broke that mark, and I'm current at 1445 Elo with GXE 58.7% - 49 Wins/34 Losses ! But the struggle is harder than ever now, and I want to go higher, aiming for top 10 at least! Please, I need advice on how to improve my team, since right now I'm lacking in experience!

I made this team by my own will, didn't look up for any pre-made team or nothing...

The Build Process:

I started with a single Core that I really enjoy: Tapu Koko + Tapu Lele

785.png

Tapu Koko @ Life Orb
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Roost
- Thunderbolt
- Grass Knot

786.png

Tapu Lele @ Life Orb
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast

Tapu Koko - After playing for a while the ladder I noticed Mamoswine and Golem-Alola are pretty common and they are usually played into Eletric types, so I choose Grass Knot for countering and couldn't be happier about it! So many times I get a large advantage or straight win the game with 1HKOs! Since I choose Thunderbolt as the main STAB attack, I invested into SpA instead of Atk. I also thought that Roost/Calm Mind would go well togetherm giving me at the same time space to sweep and have greater survivability! I experiment using Left Overs and Life Orb, and the damage bonus made a great diference after using only 1 Calm Mind, so Left Overs lost it's place.

Tapu Bulu - This poke is to stronk!! No need to think much, SpA and Spe Maxed Out! I was facing much more SpA Tanks than Def Tanks, so Psyshock made more sense. Moonblast is a fantastic STAB and Shadow Ball is there to counter other Tapu Bulus, Dhelmises and ocasionally Decidueyes. Focus Blast to cover against normal and fighting types. Glass Cannon For the Win!

Ok, now I have the two pokes I really want on my team, lets look for potencial good partners.

What looks really strong and reliable on the meta? Humm... Celesteela! I keep facing it and damn, it is strong!

797.png

Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Heavy Slam
- Toxic

Celesteela: Well.... I have some options to build this poke.... But.... WHATEVER, Stall it is! Leech Seed + Left Overs + Protect to survive and Toxic (plus leech seed) to annoy! Heavy Slam is there to hit Fairy which is pretty common. Celesteela is awesome... but any eletric type (90% of the time Magnezone) will f*uck me up... I need a back up poke.

473.png

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Oblivious
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Stealth Rock

I already have a Tank on Celesteela, so I'll go offensive on this one too! It will also be a surprise for my enemies! What are my main STABs? Earthquake and Icicle Crash, both Physycal, so I'll invest in Atk. I may be out speed so maybe a priority move? Ice Shard! At last, if i feel safe, Stealth Rock sounds like a good investment!

Now... I thought betterm and only Celesteela with Heavy Slam is not safe enought against Fairies! I need something else... After some research I found what I think will compliment the team very well:

089-a.png

Muk-Alola @ Assault Vest
Ability: Poison Touch
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Atk / 16 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab
- Shadow Sneak
- Explosion

Muk-Alola: Poison and Dark?! Great! I tried some combinations and Assalt Vest made it more durable, so I went with it! I picked two STABs: Poison Jab (Improved with Poison Touch) and Knock Off, amazing utility with a hard hitting first time. Shadow Sneak for fast revenge kills and Explosion for then everything is lost and i need neutral damage xD Also, with Trick Room being more common now, I can use it more easily. Not so sure on this last move, but it has saved me sometimes already...

To close it out I'm missing on Water Attacks, I'll go with Tapu Fini.... Not sure why, but it's working, I need more help here...

788.png

Tapu Fini @ Choice Specs
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 Hp / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Scald
- Moonblast
- Haze

Ice Beam for some coverage and 10% chance of Freeze. Scald because it is broken. Moonblast is a reliable stab and Haze to try and fuck Mimikyu or other Sweepers... I really I'm not sure about this poke... but T-T I'm lost xD~

So, what can you guys advice me in order to improve? Please, don't be to harsh... I'm noob, but I'm trying on my own to improve....

Don't ever use Specs Tapu Fini again. Never Never Never. Completely outclassed by Specs Ash-Greninja if you want water-type coverage like you said. Fini is MUCH better as a support pokemon, especially since you don't have a way to keep entry hazard off the field like Stealth Rock, so change Tapu Fini to this set:

Tapu Fini @ Leftovers
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 192 Def / 16 SpD / 52 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Nature's Madness
- Taunt
- Defog

Defog clears status, Scald for STAB, and Taunt + Nature's Madness gets past walls and stall teams. The 52 EVs in speed let you outspeed and Taunt opposing Tapu Finis and other bulky mons. The rest make your Fini as bulky as possible, physically and specially.

However, if you want a Hard-hitting Water-Type, Specs Ash-Greninja is your best bet in OU.

Greninja (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Battle Bond
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Dark Pulse
- U-turn / Ice Beam
- Water Shuriken

You have dual STAB, U-turn to go to a teammate, and Water Shuriken for useful priority if you want a revenge kill. You can run different moves like Ice Beam, Extrasensory, etc over U-Turn if you want extra coverage over pivoting.

You may want to also look into AV Magearna over AV Alolan Muk, as although your synergy is now utter [bad word], Magearna makes a really good Fairy check, and Soul-Heart gives you chances to sweep.

Thick Fat is much better than Oblivious on Mamoswine. Taunt doesn't really stop you, as you said you wanted an offensive set. Thick Fat on the other hand eliminates Mamo's weaknesses.

I got the idea behind trading Ash-Greninja and i'll do it. I can't use Thick Fat on Mamoswine on Gen 7 OU (Not pokebank) because it's a hidden ability, otherwise i'd use ir for sure!

What AV means? xD~ Also, why Alolan Muk is bad on the team? And Margeana is Steel/Fairy, I already have Fairys (Tapus) and Steel (Celesteela), won't including one more of those types increase my weakness overall and hinder my offensive/defensive options?

Hey Rigwarl nice looking team, I'll give you a few tips trying to improve your team as much as possible. First of all your team kinda looks in between an offensive and a bulkier one, which is a little bit confusing in my opinion. I'll talk about the more offensive variant and a more defensive one, up to you to choose which of the two versions you prefer. I'd change a few changes, trying to make those sets more optimanl. That Tapu Koko set isnt too bad, but Tapu Koko is way too frail and has no defenses to Calm Mind AND Roost, you can go with one of the two but not both. I really like Zap Plate Tapu Koko on this team, gains alot of momentum and allows other big threats to come in and do their job. Zap Plate Volt Switch and U-Turn which are huge momentum gain and disallow Dugtrio from trapping you if you are facing it, and Hidden Power Ice which hits most of the very common Landorus-T Rocker / Double Dancer, and as last move a strong STAB in Thunderbolt.

Another set that I would change is that Tapu Lele, Life Orb is strong, but we dont like recoil, and if you like having some strong moves and damage out of that Pokemon I'd go for Choice Specs or Twisted Spoon, having more power. But on this team I really like Shed Shell Tapu Lele, since it is a huge threat to stall teams, and they usually sack something to trap it and pretty much win the game, with Psyshock, hitting Toxapex and Chansey mainly, Moonblast for Mega Sableye and Taunt that can really annoy stall teams in general, as last move you can choose to go for something like Thunderbolt or Calm Mind depending on what you want to hit harder, like pressuring stall more, or getting those Celesteela on the switch in that can make the difference, this is really up to you (you named Tapu Bulu, I guess you meant lele). Celesteela looks really cool here, having some good ground immunity and also some Pokemon that can check Ash Greninja pretty well, also having some good switch for Landorus-T in either defensive or offensive variant, Leech Seed is pretty good here, but I dont really like Toxic, I prefer Flamethrower that hits Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor and you can 2HKO Magnezone if they tryina trap you.

Mamoswine is a pretty good offensive Stealth Rocker, but probably on a Focus Sash variant so you can 100% get Stealth Rock up. But if you are going to pick the more defensive version of the team, defensive Landorus-T is doing an amazing job here. In general these Pokemon look solid together and just did some small changes tryina get max efficiency from them. Last two Pokemon of them team are the two that I dont really like, Alolan Muk and Specs Tapu Fini, they look really random there, Alolan Muk without a proper job bar hitting those very common fairies and talking about Specs Fini you dont really know why it's there as you said. First change I'd make is Mega Metagross over Alolan Muk, since it does the same job of hitting fairies and at the same time you have some really strong offensive power in Mega Metagross that can pressure stall with Lele. Meteor Mash and Zen Headbutt as strong STAB moves, Earthquake for Magnezone, Heatran and other pretty common Mega Metagross that can be really annoying and as last move Ice Punch, because ice coverage is really strong, since you hit Landorus-T, Garchomp, and most of bulky grounds / offensive dragons.

And in the last slot you can pick a more defensive version where you can run defensive Tapu Fini that allows you to have hazard control, so you can remove those Spikes and Stealth Rock since can be a little bit annoying or going for a more offensive one with Specs Ash Greninja / Primarina if you want a less common a really strong fairy Pokemon (but you already got enough of those). This is pretty much it, I'll summarize here the two versions of the team and it's up to you if you want to go more offensive and have some backbones that can take some hits and have some nice switchins for offensive threats. The offensive version got Zap Tapu Koko, Shed Shell Tapu Lele, Sash Mamoswine, Leech Seed Celesteela, Mega Metagross and Specs Greninja; the defensive one got defensive Landorus-T over Mamoswine and defensive Tapu Fini over your Choice Specs set. Let me know how it goes, and I hope it helped, gl.
