Riolu's Prank

Hello there , up onto now I have always used TR teams , but recetnly , I have started to use a more staller of a team . Its called Riolu's Orank as Riolu is the deadliest pokemon on the team . With its ability being coupled with Copycat , it allows for really scary shit .

Now Let me introduce you to the team :

Riolu's Prank

First and foremost , the teams formation was as follows :

Spr_5b_447.png

1. Riolu joined due to its ability coupled with copycat. I liked its potential and wished to use it myself which in itself was the reason I made the team. Gr8 for casting a priority roar [+1 priority on Roar!!]

Spr_5b_447.png
Spr_5b_205.png

2. Now after Riolu , I needed someone to lay all the spikes and all . So I chose the most common pokemon for it ......... Foretress .

Spr_5b_447.png
Spr_5b_205.png
Spr_5b_143.png

3. I realized the foretress lacked any proper Sp.Def and I also wanted another roar / whirlwind guy . I came to Snorlax for help . As such being one of the original 150 pokemon , it has a really massive movepool , not that I use most of it .

4. Now I needed a good lead. I went through a lot a pokemon from Frosslass to Machamp to whatnot . I eventually came to with Whimsicott. As such lacking everything yet offering everything it seemed like a good gamble. I love the way that even if its gonna die , it leaves a leech seed which helps Forretress set up .

5. Now I needed something to sweep my opponents yet keep them from using Rapid Spin (God I hate that thing) . I used to play on PO , but when I came to Smogon , I found that shadow tag Chandelure isn't banned here . I then took the thing and sticked in my team w/o a second thought.

6. Lastly I needed a physical sweeper . I was wavering b/w Dragonite (which has extremespeed) and Tech Scizor. I eventually chose Scizor . It provides a good movepool which can take out some otherwise scary things for me .

And there u have it ............ the construction of my team .

Anyhow , the importable :

1. The Lead ->

Whimsicott (M)

@ Leftovers
Trait: Prankster

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd

Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

- Leech Seed

- Substitute

- Taunt

- Toxic

Its main job is to bug me opponent . It has a priority taunt on it allowing it to shut down most opposing leads . As such it is a sub-seed built and its EVs are concentrated into Sp.Def since most people tend to use Sp.Atks against it . Anyways, Toxic is for killing non steel stalls if I start having probs .

Synergy with the team :
Provides Leech seed support to forretress while it sets up .

Pokemon I am considering to switch it with :

1. Skarmory : I definitely need another guy who can set up and all .
2. Frosslass : Also a set up pokemon which comes with Destiny Bond instead of roost and also has a fast taunt to boost

2. The Set-Up ->

Skarmory

@Shed Shell

Ability:Sturdy

252 HP, 232 Def, 24 Spe

Impish Nature

-Spikes

-Whirlwind

-Roost

-Brave Bird

Old Pokemon

205-a.png

Forretress (M)

@ Leftovers

Trait: Sturdy

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef

Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)

- Pain Split

- Spikes

- Earthquake

- Stealth Rock

Has a gr8 ability to set up spikes and stealth rock . As such , it comes with sturdy and a good defense to boost. So it nearly guaranteed to set up a layer or 2 of entry hazards . If my opponent uses a TR team by any chance , this guy switches from just laying spikes and dying to a really really deadly pokemon . Pain split means it not gonna die very easily while earthquake can do damage .

Synergy with the team :

Provides Entry Hazards which form the crux of the teams damage potential

Things I am considering to switch it with :

1. Skarmory : Can set up spikes just as easily and also use whirlwind and has reliable healing mech. (roost)

The Roar!->

heatran_v_2_by_xous54-d32chzi.png

Heatran

@Leftovers

Ability: Flash Fire

248 HP, 100 SpD, 160 Spe

Calm Nature

-Stealth Rock

-Roar

-Lava Plume

-Protect

Old pokemon:
3. The Whilwind ->

Snorlax (M)

@ Leftovers

Trait: Immunity

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef

Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)

- Rest

- Sleep Talk

- Whirlwind

- Body Slam

Snorlax is my main Sp.Def guy . He is also immune to poison which is otherwise a common mechanism to kill the whilwind-"er". Anyways , it has decent bulk . I didn't bug myself with giving it any physical bulk was coz if my opponent is physical , it most probably has a fighting move which means its dead anyways . I really need a good replacement for it . I didnt get Skarmory here due to my team otherwise lacking any special bulk .

Synergy with the team :

Can soak up the opposing sleeps and also has decent sp.atk bulk to not die very easily . It also comes with the ability to whilrwind which again gives my team a good damage.

Pokemon considered switching it with :
None currently , I really need some advice here though . He sux!

4. The Star ->

447-a.png

Riolu (M)

@ Eviolite

Trait: Prankster

EVs: 252 HP / 100 Def / 156 SDef

Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)

- Roar

- Copycat

- Circle Throw

- Final Gambit

Roar provides well a start to the process (I may at times just start with copycate if say snorlax/whatever was whilwind-"ed" away.Its main skill is copycat which gains +1 priority with prankster . Eviolite for some defense. Once roar has been casted successfully , it can become very hard for opposing teams to shut him down . Ofter they rely on protect to break copycat or for sandstorm to kill him eventually within which teams he has delt a considerable amt of damage to the opposing team . Final Gambit is just for show I guess coz i barely ever use it . Circle throw is the fighting style Dragon Tail which again is less used.

Synergy with the team :
A gr8 roar user which helps the team in 1 too many ways.

Also provides the team with its name

Pokemon I think can take his position :
None

5.The Physical Sweep->

212-a.png

Scizor (M) @ Choice Band

Trait: Technician

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

- Bullet Punch

- Pursuit

- U-Turn

- Superpower

The Mad scythe of doom. Pursuit is probably its most used ability due to the constant bugging by ghost pokemon . I choice banded it coz I dont exactly intend to fight pokemon with max hp Bullet Punch takes care of the remaining team solo . Aerial Ace is gr8 for taking out those fighting types that otherwise threaten Snorlax. I wanted U-Turn there somewhere , but 4 moves are the max >"<

Synergy with the team:
Provides a revenge kill and can also provide a relief from fighting and ghost type pokemon via Pursuit and Aerial Ace

Pokemon which I m considering to switch it with :
1.Dragonite :Has better bulk and extremespeed has more priority , but as such it cant use pursuit making my team weak to ghost if used.

6. The Glue ->

chandelure_by_sterlingcynder-d3btdtu.jpg

Chandelure (M)

@ Choice Scarf

Trait: Shadow Tag

EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd

Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

- Shadow Ball

- Flamethrower

- Energy Ball

- Hidden Power [Ice]

Has a good movepool . With Shadow Ball , Flamethrower as its STAB moves its gr8 at killing most rapid spinners . A close look at countering most rapid spinners :
a. Forretress - > Flamethrower
b. Excadrill -> Flamethrower
c. Donphan -> Energy Ball
d. Claydoll -> Shadow Ball
e. Sandslash -> Energy Ball
f. Tentacruel -> This guy bugs me , if only Chandelure had Psycoshock. Anyhow , I just tend to use Energy Ball till one of us die . If I die , Scizor does the finish touches.

Synergy With the team :
Provides a counter to rapid spinners who are now trapped

Pokemon which I think can take its position :
None

Changes made:
Scizor - Rock Smash to Superpower credits : Lemonz
Scizor - Aerial Ace ti U-Turn credits : Epic OU
Snorlax -> Heatran credits:Xos
Foretress->Skarmory credits : Xos

Since Scizor has a choice band, I would recommend Superpower over rock smash. Even with the technician boost, its still at a measly 60 bp. Also, Superpower would really complement the whole choice band idea, since it is meant more for hit and run than for staying power. Im also fairly sure that a second Superpower with the atk drop is still more powerful than a CB rock smash.

I would also think it would be better to have snorlax w/ thick fat on this team. You have two steels who could switch in and take a toxic, and you only have a single fire resist, which has to rely on constant switching. Once Chandelure is taken out, something like heatran could give you trouble.

What i found that worked well was using it in a rain team, because rain gets rid of any sandstorm or hail that threaten riolu. Then you couple it with a Choice Specs Tornadus with Hurricane and Modest nature because think about it, everything that resists Tornadus' Hurricane is raped by entry hazards. Rock, Steel and Electric all either take heavy damage from Stealth Rocks or Spikes (Eelektross being an exception). Couple that with a Spin Blocker who can also set up spikes (Frosslass) just in case your setup guy dies. I actually use Skarmory, but foretress might be a better choice. Then you also need something to spin away hazards but you got that already. So yeah, I recommend running Politoed and Specs Tornadus, I do, and people cry so much when they finally break thru Riolu and have to face an almost 600 SpAtk STAB Hurricane a couple times.

Magic Guard Zam with hp fire and psyshock says hi to your team

Kinda the reason y I have a CB tech Scizor with Pursuit

Hmm nice idea , I ll try it sometime. I ll use chandelure over froslass for spin-blocking though since Chnadelure is near instant death and no more tension type pokemon . Also I d make the team as:

Politoed(tank with perish song) - Riolu - Foretress - Zapdos(rest-talker with whilr and twave) - Chandelure - Tornadus

Also , I really want a sub for Snorlax plzzzz

Hi there Bhoot

This looks like a very solid team and I don't have much to change. On Scizor I highly would consider U-Turn over Aerial Ace It's such a great move. But overall great team and it's also the second Prankster thing I read today.

hey Bhoot, just gonna say, CB Tech Scizor won't do anything to a Magic Guard Zam with HP Fire being that he WILL be faster, and likely to 1HKO your Scizor, the most you can do with Scizor would be BP'ing it to death before it gets a shot at your Scizor.
really solid team though, i HATE riolu roar teams with a passion now i know why Riolu always gets Roar first -.- lol but yeah what Epic OU said i agree with, U-Turn is good for scouting out Opponents big time.

Put U-Turn for Aerial ,

nyways , guyz can I plz get a substitution for Snorlax..... plz . Its biiiiig weakness to fighting is seriosly painful .

@wynaut , they have done a good job of shutting those down , thanx for the reply though.

Hi Bhoot, nice team, and I love Riolu!

First off, I would suggest Skarmory over Forretress because it can switch in constantly and heal itself with Roost. It has the same defense and fills the same role as Forry. Here is the set:
Skarmory@Shed Shell
Ability:Sturdy
252 HP, 232 Def, 24 Spe
Impish Nature
-Spikes
-Whirlwind
-Roost
-Brave Bird

Skarmory is a better choice because of its access to Roost, as well as a phazing move. It also has a usable attack stat and can dent Fighting types with Brave Bird. Shel shell is useful for escaping Magnezone. It has always been a good help to my team and will surely help yours.

In addition, I would suggest having a specially defensive Heatran over Snorlax. It has great synergy with Skarm and can lay down Stealth Rocks for your team.
Here is the set:
Heatran@Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
248 HP, 100 SpD, 160 Spe
Calm Nature
-Stealth Rock
-Roar/Protect
-Lava Plume
-Toxic/Protect

Heatran forms a good core with Skarm, as it is immune to Fire and shrugs off most electric attacks. For example, it only takes 31.9-37.7% from Timid Magnezone's Thunderbolt and is Immune to HP Fire. Skarmory is immune to Tran's crippling Ground weakness and shrugs off Fighting moves with ease. You can opt to have protect for scouting, more recovery and Toxic damage if you choose that as well.

Hope this helped. Good luck with your team!

This should be in the Dream World section as Prankster Riolu is not yet released.
