After a long hiatus, Rhyperior returns to top 20 usage thanks to its ability to break the popular Zapdos + Porygon2 core! This spread is capable of taking multiple hits from offensive Zapdos while also outrunning Porygon2, allowing Rhyperior to reach +4 from Swords Dance and Weakness Policy and take out Porygon2. While the Weakness Policy + Dynamax combination is generally reserved for faster Pokemon, Rhyperior is able to utilize its insane defensive stats and Solid Rock to take any super effective hit and retaliate hard with your choice of Max Move. Despite Rhyperior's low Special Defense stat, the boost from Max Quake and sand from Max Rockfall allows it to ramp up its special bulk quickly and shrug off moves from common Water-types like Tapu Fini. Although Fire Punch is necessary coverage for Ferrothorn, the last slot can be used to cover your team's weaknesses. Swords Dance can be used to shred through bulky walls like Porygon2 and Cresselia more easily, while Ice Punch allows Rhyperior to square off against Garchomp and Landorus-T. Good partners for this set include Zapdos and Tapu Fini, as these have counterplay to major threats such as Urshifu-S, Urshifu-R, Dracovish, and Rillaboom.
Pinging marilli Theorymon or Psynergy for a QC check. This is high priority so lets get this through quickly!
