--------------------------
[Overview]
- Reshiram's ability Turbo Blaze allows it to get completely unresisted coverage with its two STABs: Dragon and Fire.
- 150 Special Attack means that Reshiram will do serious damage with its Special moves.
- 120 Attack means that a mixed set is extremely viable.
- Although it has weaknesses to a few key moves, 100 / 100 / 120 defenses are quite good, and it has 5 resistances.
- Only true drawbacks are its 2x weakness to Stealth Rock and Earthquake and its average Speed.
name: Nitro Mix
move 1: Nitro Charge
move 2: Blue Fire
move 3: Draco Meteor
move 4: Outrage
item: Life Orb
evs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Hasty
Set Comments:
- The +1 Speed boost from Nitro Charge fixes Reshiram's middling Speed.
- Physical and Special mix combined with Turbo Blaze actually makes it impossible to wall.
- Breaks through defensive teams with ease while boosting its Speed.
- Can 2HKO even Blissey with sun-boosted Blue Fire if Spikes and Stealth Rock are set up.
- Draco Meteor and Outrage let it take advantage of its Dragon-type STAB against both types of defensive threats.
- A Mild nature lets Reshiram 2HKO Blissey with a sun-boosted Blue Fire with only Stealth Rock up.
- Reshiram's movepool is pretty shallow and Dragon- and Fire-type moves gives perfect coverage, so there's no reason to use other moves.
- Tyranitar with heavy Special Defense investment can cancel Reshiram's sun, boost its own Special Defense, and resists Fire-type moves. It can also hit Reshiram with its STAB super effective Rock-type moves.
- Choice Scarf Pokémon with higher than 90 base Speed can revenge kill Reshiram.
- Reshiram will not be able to get past bulky Kyogre for a multitude of reasons, including the rain, Kyogre's massive Special Defense, and its Fire-type resistance. It also has STAB Water-type moves.
- Wobbuffet will help Reshiram set up and will take out fast Choice Scarfers.
- Palkia can deal with bulky Kyogre fairly easily with Thunder or Outrage. Mixed versions can also do serious damage to Tyranitar.
- Groudon, while also setting up sun, can tank anything Tyranitar can throw at it, and hit back with STAB super effective Earthquake.
name: Nitro Special
move 1: Nitro Charge
move 2: Blue Fire
move 3: Dragon Pulse
move 4: Draco Meteor / Focus Blast
item: Life Orb
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid / Modest
Set Comments:
- Unlike the previous set, this set's main goal is to sweep late game after the enemy's walls have been weakened or taken out.
- Nitro Charge gets a light hit on Blissey and boosts Reshiram's Speed, allowing it to sweep.
- Blue Fire in the sunlight will OHKO pretty much anything that doesn't resist it. even Blissey is 2HKO after taking damage from Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes.
- Dragon Pulse destroys the common Dragon-types that Blue Fire doesn't hit, such as Palkia. It also deals heavy damage to Water-types and it is also useful to finish off weakened Kyogre.
- Draco Meteor is a powerful move that allows Reshiram to deal serious damage to Pokémon whom it could not otherwise KO, but it means that Reshiram will be severely weakened after.
- Focus Blast allows Reshiram to OHKO Tyranitar and have a strong attack to smack Blissey with in case the sunlight is not active.
- Modest allows Reshiram's attacks to be even more punishing. For example, Blue Fire will always 2HKO Blissey after Stealth Rock damage provided the sunlight it out. However, Reshiram will then underspeed Deoxys-A and Choice Scarf base 80's such as Shanderaa after a Nitro Charge boost.
- Blissey can outstall Reshiram if the weather is not sunlight.
- Ho-Oh and Kyogre wall this set and can deal a OHKO to Reshiram with Earthquake/Surf.
- Choice Scarf Palkia and Garchomp can easily revenge kill Reshiram even after a Nitro Charge boost.
- Wobbuffet helps Reshiram set up and can deal with Scarf Palkia/Garchomp.
- Groudon is a great teammate, for not only does it provide sunlight, it also counters Blissey and Garchomp effectively.
- Mixed Palkia counters Kyogre effectively and can easily lure in and smash Blissey with Outrage.
- Ho-Oh is best dealt with by keeping Stealth Rock on the field alongside a sturdy spinblocker such as Giratina-O.
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Draco Meteor
move 2: Blue Fire
move 3: Dragon Pulse
move 4: Flamethrower
item: Choice Specs
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid
Set Comments:
- With Choice Specs, Reshiram hits incredibly hard right off the bat. Combined with STABs that grant it perfect coverage and its 150 base Special Attack, it is one of the most difficult Pokemon in the game to switch into.
- Blue Fire does 47%-55% to the standard Wishbliss and 38%-45% to 4 HP / 252 SpD Calm Chansey holding an Evolution Stone. With Stealth Rock and Spikes or Toxic Spikes down, both are guaranteed to be 2HKOed, even if the former uses Protect to recover some HP through Leftovers. Blue Fire will almost always OHKO a full health Bulk Up Dialga as well.
- Draco Meteor wrecks many Pokemon who attempt to "wall" Reshiram's Blue Fire (and vice versa, obviously). It has a great chance of OHKOing 4 HP / 0 SpD Kyogre after Stealth Rock damage
- Dragon Pulse and Flamethrower are there for reliability. In some cases, these two may become your main attacking options due to Reshiram's sheer power.
- Focus Blast can work on the last slot to OHKO Tyranitar, however, it has no use other than that and can turn Reshiram into Wobbuffet bait.
- Considering that Reshiram is one of the slower Pokemon in the game, a Modest nature can work for extra power. By moving Speed EVs into HP, Reshiram's bulk can be increased as well. However, Timid nature is recommended as Reshiram's weakness to Stealth Rock prevents it from taking many hits and it is probably best for it to go all out with Speed and power.
- Cross Flame is an option over Flamethrower for a bit more power, but Flamethrower is generally preferred for PP in case something like Mewtwo or perhaps Lugia attempt to stall it out. Plus, as minuscule as it is, the burn chance of Flamethrower is handy.
- Tyranitar with heavy Special Defense investment can override the sunlight and absorb Reshiram's attacks with moderate ease, barring Draco Meteor. It can retaliate with a super-effective Stone Edge or Earthquake
- Although it fears Draco Meteor and Dragon Pulse, Kyogre can switch into its Fire-type attacks and set up rain through Drizzle. Reshiram will not have an easy time absorbing Surfs either.
- Ho-Oh can be a pest as it refuses to be 2HKOed by anything Reshiram has except for Draco Meteor. It can heal off the damage and strike back with a super-effective Earthquake.
- In the same vein, Blissey can switch into anything not named Blue Fire and stall out Reshiram.
- Keep something in your team that can take on Blue Fire without too much of a hassle or Reshiram will simply incinerate your team members into the ground, one by one.
- Groudon, while also setting up sun, can tank anything Tyranitar can throw at it, and hit back with STAB super effective Earthquake. It also sets up the crucial Stealth Rock for Reshiram's OHKOes and 2HKOes.
- Forretress is not a bad choice for a team member as it sets up additional entry hazards and can Rapid Spin away the opponent's to ensure that Reshiram's vulnerability to all forms of entry hazards does not get the best of it.
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Blue Fire
move 2: Draco Meteor
move 3: Dragon Pulse
move 4: Flamethrower / Outrage / Stone Edge
item: Choice Scarf
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid / Hasty
Set Comments:
- Reshiram can use Choice Scarf effectively to become an efficient revenge killer.
- Hits 459 Speed with a Scarf, which outspeeds every Pokemon except for Jolly Ninjash and Deoxys-S.
- A speedy Blue Fire can easily clean up a weakened team.
- Flamethrower allows Reshiram to revenge kill threats that are weak to Fire-type attacks if you don't want to risk Blue Fire missing.
- Outrage allows Reshiram to pick off weakened Calm Minders such as Latias, Mewtwo, and Kyogre. It also gives it a way to take out a weakened Blissey.
- Stone Edge allows Reshiram to defeat Ho-Oh, but it will leave Reshiram vulnerable to be easily set up on.
- Focus Blast can also be used to revenge kill Dragon Dance Tyranitar. However, Reshiram will then become pure Wobbuffet bait.
- Everything that counters the Choice Specs set counters this set as well.
- Wobbuffet can come in on anything but Blue Fire to trap Reshiram and OHKO it with Mirror Coat.
- Pokemon such as Lugia and Cresselia can handle this set due to Reshiram's lower amount of power. (Although Blue Fire in the sun will still leave a mark.)
- Forretress can set up all over Lugia, Cresselia, and Reshiram while also utilizing Rapid Spin to clear the field of entry hazards, as this set will be switching around quite a bit.
- Groudon provides sunlight and can lure in and cripple Lugia and Cresselia with Toxic.
- A Pursuit user can help weaken Lugia, Cresselia, and Wobbuffet. Metagross, Scizor, and Warubiaru are all good choices.
- Darkrai can use Wobbuffet, Cresselia, and Lugia as easy set up bait while helping to weaken some of Reshiram's counters, such as Blissey, Kyogre, and Ho-Oh.
- A Rapid-Spinner, such as Forretress, is incredibly important, especially for Choice sets.
- Groudon is absolutely mandatory, as it lets Reshiram obtain a lot of its OHKOs and 2HKOs by providing the sun. It's also a great Tyranitar counter.
- Like any offensive Pokémon, Reshiram appreciates entry hazards, especially if it's trying to take down Blissey with an all-special set.
- Kyogre is public enemy #1, so having Palkia or another Pokémon to deal with Kyogre is very important.
- Reshiram's main weakness is to Ground-type attacks, so having a Flying-type or a Pokémon with Levitate, such as Lugia, Ho-Oh (beware, it shares Reshiram's Stealth Rock weakness), or Giratina-O can remedy this.
- Reshiram's amazing offenses and coverage means that it doesn't need much help breaking walls; however, having paralysis support can be a boon, since Reshiram is rather slow, by legendary standards.
- Wobbuffet can take care of faster +1 Pokémon (for the Choice Scarf and Nitro Charge sets) and help Reshiram set up.
- Reshiram can use Reflect and Light Screen to bolster its defenses and support the team.
- Reshiram has access to Dragon Tail to phaze and scout for counters, but it is not designed to function as a defensive Pokemon.
- Imprision can disable the opponent's Dragon-type moves, but its usefulness is incredibly situational.
- Reshiram can use Claw Sharpen to boost its attack, but Ho-Oh outclasses it as a pure physical attacker due to higher Attack and a superior physical movepool.
- Ancientpower is a special attack that can be used to badly damage Ho-Oh, but otherwise has little utility.
- Cross Flame deals slightly more damage than Flamethrower, but has much less PP and an arguably worse secondary effect.
- Reshiram can use Substitute pretty well as it tends to force a ton of switches.
- Reshiram has no true counters as literally nothing can switch in on it safely thanks to its unresisted STAB combo and sheer stat distribution.
- Kyogre removes the sunlight and replaces it with rain, which severly dimnishes Reshiram's offensive power, and it can easily drown Reshiram with its powerful STAB Surf. However, Kyogre cannot come in on a Specs Draco Meteor and it hates taking Life Orb Outrages.
- Defensive Tyranitar can come in on most sets thanks to its sheer bulk and retaliate with STAB Stone Edge. However, Focus Blast will completely wreck Tyranitar.
- Ho-Oh is bulky enough to come in on most sets, but Life Orb Outrage, Stone Edge, and Specs Draco Meteor all do enormous damage.
- Blissey can't take Outrage or Blue Fire in the sun very well but can come in on any other attack and cripple Reshiram with Toxic or Thunder Wave.
- Choice Scarf Palkia and Garchomp can revenge kill Reshiram easily.
- Reshiram does not get a Dream World ability.
