[OVERVIEW]
Registeel serves the purpose of a bulky ChestoRest + Double Dance sweeper, as its bulk, combined with its amazing Steel typing, gives it the edge in a multitude of matchups. It is able to set up on common UU staples such as Nihilego, Chansey, and Scizor and bait offensive threats that hit it super effectively, such as Zygarde-10%, Conkeldurr, and pivot Thundurus-T, using them as setup fodder to start a sweep. Because of its ability to boost its physical and special bulk, Registeel has multiple opportunities to set up and can potentially steamroll teams lacking a Ghost-type, Taunt, or certain sweepers that don't take much from Body Press. It also has a good amount of PP on Iron Defense, Amnesia, and Rest combined, so it is able to stall out defensive Pokemon like Slowking and Amoonguss. Registeel is also a solid defensive Stealth Rock setter for many teams, checking various offensive threats, including Nihilego, Zarude, and Starmie. It also has access to status in Thunder Wave and Toxic, which makes it less passive against offensive teams. However, while Registeel's defensive profile is phenomenal, its passivity leads to inviting common wallbreakers and setup sweepers in, like Keldeo and Nidoking. It also faces stiff competition as a Steel-type Stealth Rock setter from the likes of Excadrill and Cobalion, both of which have an actual offensive presence. Registeel faces competition as a defensive Steel-type from Skarmory and Scizor; both have reliable recovery and Skarmory can check Pokemon like Gyarados and Diggersby. Registeel also greatly fears Knock Off because of how reliant it is on its item to stay healthy throughout a game. It's also often forced to use Rest between boosting, which gives wallbreakers like Keldeo and Nidoking chances to fish for critical hits to KO it through its boosts.
[SET]
name: Demon Registeel (Double Dance)
move 1: Amnesia
move 2: Iron Defense
move 3: Rest
move 4: Body Press
item: Chesto Berry
ability: Clear Body
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
[SET COMMENTS]
Maximum Defense investment with a Bold nature is needed to fully strengthen Body Press and increase its damage output, allowing Registeel to more freely set up on Azumarill, Zygarde-10%, and Excadrill. Iron Defense, in particular, makes Body Press's power skyrocket to exceptional levels. At +6, Registeel becomes incredibly powerful and is able to 2HKO even physically defensive Slowking with a favorable damage roll or minor chip damage. With Amnesia and Iron Defense, it is able to set up on multiple Pokemon, including Hippowdon, Salamence, and Tangrowth. This gives Registeel room to boost its unboosted stat as well. After a single Iron Defense, for example, Conkeldurr cannot 2HKO Registeel. Amnesia leaves Pokemon that would otherwise counter Registeel such as Moltres and Nidoking unable to 2HKO it, forcing them to fish for a critical hit in order to KO. Rest, along with Chesto Berry, allows Registeel to rid itself of status that would otherwise get in the way of a sweep. Rest also gives Registeel longevity to last throughout a game and stay healthy versus the likes of Excadrill, Scizor, and Cobalion.
Registeel fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that provide it many opportunities to boost and sweep. Ghost-types are a massive problem for Registeel, as they are immune to Body Press and are usually able to power through it, so Hydreigon is a valuable teammate that can shut them down. Salamence and Slowking can check offensive Fighting-types such as Keldeo and Conkeldurr for Registeel. Registeel appreciates Knock Off absorbers like Amoonguss, Tapu Bulu, and Rocky Helmet Tangrowth to ensure safer setup. Tapu Bulu also provides Grassy Terrain support to give it passive recovery and weaken Earthquake from Mamoswine and Diggersby. Nihilego is a solid partner for Registeel, as it removes common Fighting-resistant Pokemon such as Hatterene and Togekiss, and provides Stealth Rock and Knock Off support that can aid in wearing down the opposition. It is also a reliable counter to Chandelure. Rotom-W threatens offensive Ground-types like Nidoking and Mamoswine, as well as Skarmory for Registeel. It can also provide valuable Defog support to clear the field of entry hazards. Calm Mind Hatterene is a good partner, due to countering Skarmory, which can KO Registeel after boosting alongside it with its own Body Press. It also prevents Skarmory from laying Spikes that would wear down Registeel a lot faster. Chansey can handle special attackers like Nidoking for Registeel while also providing Aromatherapy support to wake it up after Rest.
[SET]
name: Stealth Rock
move 1: Seismic Toss / Body Press
move 2: Toxic / Thunder Wave
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Stealth Rock
item: Leftovers
ability: Clear Body
nature: Careful
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
[SET COMMENTS]
Body Press is also an option over Seismic Toss that allows Registeel to take advantage of its high Defense stat to deal significant damage to targets such as Zarude, Hydreigon, and Excadrill. Toxic cripples switch-ins, including Slowking and Hippowdon, and puts a timer on common Defog users like Salamence and Mandibuzz. Thunder Wave is also an option that cripples faster offensive threats including Azelf, Keldeo, and Gyarados. Earthquake allows Registeel to threaten various Toxic-immune Pokemon, including Nidoqueen and Galarian Slowbro. Most importantly, it OHKOes Nihilego. Maximum Special Defense with a Careful nature allows Registeel to better check Salamence and Meteor Beam Nihilego.
Registeel fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that appreciate the solid defensive utility it provides. Checks to Fire- and Fighting-type like Salamence and Slowking pair well with Registeel, taking on threats like Keldeo and Moltres. Thundurus-T and Rotom-W threaten common entry hazard removers, such as Salamence and Mandibuzz. Tentacruel, Mandibuzz, and the aforementioned Salamence can also remove Spikes, which cut into Registeel's longevity. Bulky Grass-types, such as Amoonguss and Tangrowth, are good partners that can check Keldeo and Zygarde-10%, which otherwise threaten Registeel.

Other Options
=============
Heavy Slam is an option on Stealth Rock sets over Seismic Toss to better deal with Hatterene and Togekiss, but you sacrifice consistent damage on other targets like Scizor and Zarude.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Strong Wallbreakers**: Powerful wallbreakers like Nidoking, Chandelure, and Mamoswine can keep Registeel from setting up freely due to their attacks forcing it to use Rest. However, they can struggle to take on Registeel if it accumulates enough boosts. Chandelure, in particular, is troublesome due to its immunity to Body Press; it almost effortlessly beats Double Dance Registeel.
**Taunt and Trick**: Taunt users such as Crobat annoy both Registeel. Trick users are extremely problematic as well, namely Choice Scarf Jirachi and Rotom-W, as they cripple Registeel and make it virtually useless.
**Fighting-types and Fighting-type coverage**: Fighting-types like Keldeo and Conkeldurr can immediately threaten Registeel with big damage and force it to use Rest, leaving it exploitable. Common users of Fighting-type coverage such as Iron Defense Skarmory, Nasty Plot Thundurus-T, and Swords Dance Scizor also immediately threaten Registeel. However, all of these Pokemon must come in before Registeel boosts the correct stat, or else they lose to it.
**Fighting-Resistant Sweepers**: Setup sweepers resistant to Body Press, including Calm Mind Galarian Slowbro, Calm Mind Hatterene, Nasty Plot + Flamethrower Togekiss, and Swords Dance Tapu Bulu, force Registeel out before it is able to start sweeping.
**Quagsire**: Quagsire staves off Body Press with no issue due to its Unaware allowing it to ignore Registeel's boosts. It can come in freely and use Haze, putting a stop to any sort of sweep.
