So I put together a team, based around what i think is one of the best Megas in the metagame-Mega Medicham. With a base 100 Attack and Pure Power doubling the Damage, effectively becoming Base 200 Attack. And with a Base 100 Speed, Mega Medicham can be a late game sweeper or even a mid game revenge killer or something that can be used as a wall breaker. I will explain in detail why i chose each Pokemon, and their roles and uses
So starting with the first Pokemon, Medicham (sorry for Bad sprites and Box Arts)
Medicham being the core of my team, being in IMO one of the best Megas in the current Meta, can be used for a Wallbreaker or a late game sweeper. Having two great STAB types and a diverse movepool, Medicham can surprise many with tricky moves and sets. However, i prefer to run a typical meta set for Mega Medicham
Medicham @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Bullet Punch
- Psycho Cut
- High Jump Kick
Being the rather typical set for Mega Medicham, It can switch in from a free turn or a U-turn kill, Use Fake-Out to Mega evolve safely or get some quick damage upon switch in, and proceed to either HJK or Psycho Cut and relying upon its somewhat high speed to outpace the Opponent and either get off a quick kill, or cause high damage. Bullet punch is for a priority move that hits Fairy Types somewhat hard. Adamant or Jolly natures are recommended for Medicham, as the extra Attack or Speed can really make the difference
On to the next Pokemon needed for this team, I opted for Talonflame, as it can hit hard the Pokemon resisted by Medicham, or check it, as well as being a check for some Fairy types that counter/check Medicham such as Azumarill or Mega Altaria
Talonflame is used to check/counter pokemon that would otherwise check/counter Medicham, or cause more harm that necessary by forcing a switchout, such as Ferrothorn, Scizor, Serperior, Weavile (potentially) and in the right circumstances forcing a switch on Mega Heracross.
Talonflame @ Leftovers
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
- Swords Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Brave Bird
- Roost
This is the Set run by HoodlumScrafty during the EXPNU (fairly sure such an example is used here:
if not then look for further EXPNU videos)
Max Health Max Special Defence. Often this set can force a switch by the opponent in an unfavourable position, simply because its a Talonflame. And this can often be extremely useful. After a SD, Talonflame will still OHKO almost everything that it hits Super-effectively. This particular set also has the added bonus of taking more hits while still returning after a SD the same approximate damage. Talonflame also has the added bonus of being a serious threat to Grass, Ice and Fighting types.
Onto the next Pokemon, I needed something that could setup Stealth Rocks and still do some damage afterwards. So the next Pokemon was for me a rather obvious choice. Being a Landorus-T, a quintessential Meta Pokemon, with a diverse range of uses.
Landorus-T provides a somewhat bulky Stealth Rocker, as well as being something to resist Fighting, Electric and cause a disruption with Intimidate.
Landorus-Therian @ Yache Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 130 HP / 120 Atk / 8 SpD / 250 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge
Landorus needs to be fast enough to outspeed most threats in the tier, and using U-turn can be used as a Pivot during battle. Knock off is needed on almost all teams because almost all Pokemon carry items. It's a real debate between Stone Edge and Earthquake. Both are viable options. Earthquake is a STAB move after all, but doesn't hit annoying Flying types that could check the rest of the team like Mega-Charizard Y, Dragonite, Thundurus/Tornadus-T and of course Talonflame. Stone Edge is useful too, but doesn't hit hard Pokemon like Heatran (without Air Balloon), Klefki, Magnezone, Both Mega Manectric and Metagross. It's at your discretion which move is used. Yache Berry item because Ice-type moves like an Ice-punch from Electivire even after the Intimidate still hit hard.
The Fourth Pokemon is the Pokemon that contributes the least to the Team, and a better Water-type is needed, but still has its uses as a StallWall. That Pokemon is Walrein.
Walrein @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 92 Def / 164 SpD
Bold Nature
- Rest
- Toxic
- Snore
- Surf
Walrein can be used to faze out Ice-Type moves and Fire-Type moves with Thick Fat, and is useful as a Stall-Wall, using Rest and Snore to stall out Status moves and Toxic for residual damage while asleep. Walrein can be replaced, although rather not with Rotom-W. Surf is used for a Strong STAB move, but Walrein can be replaced with any Bulky Water-Type.
For the 5th slot, something that can Heal up and Wish pass was needed, and a Special Defense wall was also needed. Also, something to counter Fighting and Dark types was needed, ergo Sylveon was the ideal Pokemon of Choice
Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Heal Bell
- Hyper Voice
- Protect
- Wish
Sylveon is used for a Wish passer and is used as a cleric to cure any Status ailments. Protect can be used to Wish-pass upon itself. Hyper Voice passes through protect, and it the move of choice for Pixilate Sylveon. Max investment in Special Defense and Health to be a Specially Defensive wall, with minor invesment in SpA to buff Hyper Voice.
The last Pokemon is somewhat of a trapper, and can be used to revenge-kill any steel types that Threaten Sylveon, Walrein or Medicham. That last Pokemon is Magnezone
Magnezone @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 4 SpA / 132 SpD
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt
Magnezone is used as a Steel-Type trapper that could potentially harm Sylveon or Medicham. Choice Specs means that Magnezone needs less SpA investment, as well as the Def investments and SpD investments for Extra Bulk, as well as the extra HP to really provide the bulk while trapping Steel-Types and Switching and fazing out threats with Volt Switch
