VGC Rate my Mega Salamence team

I have just started playing ORAS since the beginning of this year. I have built a team recently but I am not sure if it will be able to help me climb the ladder in both showdown and battle spot. Here I would like to ask all of you guys some helpful advises reviews plz. I think my team has too little spread attacks, only hyper voice on mega salamence and rock slide on tyranitar.

Suicune @ Leftovers

Ability: Pressure

EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 4 SpA / 84 SpD / 4 Spe

Calm Nature

- Scald

- Ice Beam

- Tailwind

- Snarl

I was thinking of using Rotom-Wash at first, but since Suicune gets access to tailwind and snarl, I decided to use it for a half supporter in my team. With the 84 SpD and max HP, it can tank a thunderbolt from Thundurus which is quite a common Pokemon in nowadays battle spot. Also with the 164 Def, it can take a double-edge from a Mega Kangaskhan with at least 27.6% of its HP left. For the 4 EVs in SpA and Spe, I just don't wanna waste any EVs so I put them there.

Thundurus @ Life Orb

Ability: Prankster

EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Timid Nature

- Taunt

- Thunder Wave

- Thunderbolt

- hidden power ice

Thundurus is gonna be a very good sweeper in the team with good offensive and speed stats. I prefer taunt than nasty plot because it can shut down many common status moves like trick room and spore which used to be a losing factor of my old teams. Also with the hp ice, I can easily take down beastly dragon types and even Landorus T.

Aegislash @ Weakness Policy

Ability: Stance Change

EVs: 252 HP / 12 Def / 100 SpA / 140 SpD / 4 Spe

Bold Nature

- Flash Cannon

- Shadow Ball

- King's Shield

- Wide Guard

Aegislash is a very useful Pokemon. Aegislash is played differently by a lot of users. I decided to use a special attack Aegislash because I am afraid of Landorus T's intimidate and there are many physical attack Pokemon in my team. With the 252 HP and the 12 Def, my Aegislash can tank an earthquake from a life orb Garchomp. I put 100 on SpA for better offensive. Then it is the 140 EVs on SpD. The 4 on Spe is for not wasting any EVs. I use the item weakness policy so that it can ko most things after weakness policy is activated. Aegislash is also a good supporter for my mega Salamence, with the wide guard, it can protect Salamence from opposing fairy types' hyper voice. Aegislash is such a useful Pokemon.

Salamence @ Salamencite

Ability: Intimidate

EVs: 44 Atk / 212 SpA / 252 Spe

Naive Nature

- Double-Edge

- Hyper Voice

- Draco Meteor

- Protect

Mega Salamence, the main sweeper in my team. With the ability after mega evolution, Salamence is going to turn all the normal moves which is double-edge and hyper voice into flying moves. This is really useful because Salamence can then get stab when using these moves. As you may see, my mega Salamence is a mixed attacker so I invest EVs in both physical and special attack. I maxed out its speed since speed is very important for a sweeper. With the physical attack EVs investment, it can ohko swift swim Ludicolo. It may have to prevent fake out ice beam so that I use protect instead of dragon dance. The reason why I chose it to be a mixed sweeper is because I want the spread move hyper voice and the beastly Draco meteor and I want to use double-edge after Draco meteor has lowered my SpA.

Infernape @ Focus Sash

Ability: Blaze

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

Jolly Nature

- Fake Out

- Close Combat

- Flare Blitz

- Protect

Infernape is another sweeper in my team. It has good offensive stats and speed stats which makes it a perfect fire and fighting type sweeper. The reason that I chose Infernape among all the fire types is that it can learn fake out. Fake out in my opinion, is extremely useful though good predictions have to be made. Fake out can prevent opponents from setting up and can even destroy your opponent's team by double targeting his/her main Pokemon for example fake out scald in the rain can kill a Talonflame and immediately take out a threat of Ludicolo. This set can also destroy mega Kangaskhans and Terrakions with the close combat. Generally, this set is just for pure sweeping.

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf

Ability: Sand Stream

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

Jolly Nature

- Rock Slide

- Crunch

- Ice Punch

- Low Kick

My last Pokemon in the team is Tyranitar. At last a slow......never mind, it is meant to be a fast physical sweeper (there are just so many physical sweepers in my team). I run my Tyranitar with the jolly nature, max speed and choice scarf because I want it to be fast. Tyranitar has a lot of weaknesses and those weaknesses are quite common, it makes Tyranitar so fragile. With the good attack stats and average speed stats, I realised that it can be a scarfed sweeper. If I did no speed investment, Tyranitar would be killed immediately before doing any damage. That's the reason I want it to be scarfed. I found this set pretty useful: rock slide for stab and spread damage, crunch for stab, ice punch to tackle those grass and ground types and......low kick!? Yup, that's right. Low kick. This is for tackling Bisharp and other scarfed Tyranitars. Once my mega Tyranitar lost to a scarfed low kick Tyranitar so I decided to put low kick to tackle those scarfed Tyranitars. Usually the greatest enemy of oneself is itself, and this is not an exception.

So this is my team. I sincerely hope that you can give me some advises of my team. And if you do, it will be so helpful to me. Thanks a lot guys.

A pretty nice team IMO.
However, I do recommend Sitrus Berry over Leftovers on Suicune because Suicune won't stay around too long for leftovers to work. Secondly, 76SpA into Suicune's EV is highly recommended to pick up a OHKO on 4HP 0SpD Landorus T with Ice Beam. Plus, Tailwind isn't really needed on your team since your team is already so fast and replacing it with protect is better IMO.
Moreover, I think Overheat is better on infernape with a Naive Nature (so you will be less affected by intimidate), and replacing Sash with other items such as Life Orb is good because Sand will pick up a KO on you, which is not what you want.
I think you can invest more in Special Attack for Aegislash, since its bulk is already so great.
At last, aside from Taunt from Thundurus, your team doesn't really have good check to trick room. Maybe adding priority attacks would be great!

For a guy who's been playing competitively since the start of this year it's a very impressive team :)
I'd like to suggest a few alternative sets for each of these mons :)

Suicune is definitely one of the best bulky water types in this gen, but since tailwind isn't really needed for this team as it is very fast already and has good TR counters, i would suggest that you swap it for milotic. Milotic acts as a landorus/intimidate deterrent with its competitive ability, and can also ohko landorus with ice beam. its competitive ability plus access to recover make it imo a bigger threat than suicune. a good set would be:

350.gif

Milotic @ Sitrus Berry / Maranga Berry / Leftovers
Ability: Competitive
EVs: 236 HP / 156 Def / 100 SpA / 12 SpD / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam/Icy Wind
- Recover
- Protect

This survives specs Hydreigon's Draco Meteor, kangaskhan's double-edge and manectric's/zapdos' thunderbolt. Maranga Berry plus recover have perfect synergy with each other, sitrus berry is great for immediate recovery and leftovers is a good option over sitrus if you think milotic will survive more than four turns.

If you want to run life orb thundurus, your spread would be more optimal if you changed the HP stat to a 'Life Orb Number,' which for future reference is 10n-1, reducing life orb recoil. for thundurus at level 50, the EV spread would be:

642.gif

Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
EVs: 36 HP / 220 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Taunt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunder Wave

this puts its HP stat at 159, minimising damage from life orb :)
alternatively, another trick room counter with very valuable support abilities for this team is amoonguss, as it can redirect attacks away from your main sweepers, i.e. salamence and can put the biggest threats on your opponent's team to sleep. a popular sand team that won the japan cup included amoonguss, mega mence, tyranitar, azumarill (another good swap for milotic), aegislash and interestingly excadrill, which i shall come onto later. a good amoonguss spread would be:

591.gif

Amoonguss @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 188 HP / 164 Def / 156 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Rage Powder
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Protect

this set maximises regenerator recovery (the HP stat is 213, fitting into the regenerator 'Nth term' of 3n+1), and survives Mega Kangaskhan’s Double-Edge, as well as Choice Specs Hydreigon’s Fire Blast.

imo, if you want a special attacking aegislash, quiet nature is best because it allows you to be a better trick room counter (slow ghost types are really good trick room counters, as the TR setter is usually weak to ghost/dark type attacks) as well as making your attacks stronger, and therefore a good spread would be:

681.gif

Aegislash @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 180 SpA / 76 SpD
Quiet Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon
- Wide Guard
- King's Shield

This EV spread allows you to take a specs hydreigon dark pulse, and dumps the rest into SpA. Leftovers is imo better than weakness policy on this set because you will be spamming wide guard a lot of the time, and leftovers allows you to stay on the field for longer.

(Salamence is fine :) although i would recommend a purely special attacking set with flamethrower/Fire blast for better coverage)

I agree with Gallade that infernape is best as a mixed attacker, as overheat takes no recoil damage and has an easier time hitting opposing aegislash, as it is weak to king's shield. this spread OHKO's 252 HP aegislash with Overheat and has a 7/8 chance to OHKO 252 HP Mega kangaskhan and a 3/4 chance to OHKO 252 HP Heatran.

392.gif

Infernape (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 108 Atk / 188 SpA / 212 Spe
Naive Nature
– Fake Out
– Overheat
– Close Combat
– Feint/Protect

Alternatively, Excadrill fits really well into this slot, as it leads excellently with tyranitar and abuses sand stream with its ability sand rush. running a sand core with mega salamence is a very good strategy, as you pick up a LOT of flinches with double rock slide, and you have a form of fast and immediate offence. the set i would use is:

530.gif

Excadrill @ Life Orb/Focus Sash
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Drill Run
- Rock Slide
- Iron Head
- Protect

Sash for longevity, or life orb for extra damage output. Drill run is a good alternative to EQ as it goes through wide guard and doesn't hurt team mates

(Tyranitar is fine :) )

Original team:

upload_2015-8-23_10-38-18.png

lol windows xp :)

+ good all round resistances
- open weakness to electric
- only one resist to rock/ghost/dragon/fairy

Alternative team:

upload_2015-8-23_10-40-59.png

+ At least one resistance/immunity to every type
+ only one open weakness to ground but milotic deters landorus-t and aegislash blocks EQ
- only one resist/immunity to ghost/dark/ground
