Team: aurora status sweep
This team is really built around trusting in Dragonite to make a late-game sweep. I didn't intend it that way when I was first making it, but whenever I would test/use it, Dragonite just seemed to carry really hard. So, I ended up hoping to set up and end the game with Dragonite more and more. Every Pokémon is selected to create the conditions Dragonite needs to succeed, from setting up hazards and providing speed control to breaking down key threats. The synergy between team members is designed to ease Dragonite’s path to victory, ensuring that when the time is right, Dragonite can come in and close out the game with confidence.
Ninetales-Alola @ Light Clay
Ability: Snow Warning
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
Ninetales-Alola is a key mid-to-late game support for the team, rather than just a lead. It helps Dragonite set up safely by providing Aurora Veil, which drastically reduces incoming damage. With its decent bulk, Ninetales can stay alive to set up multiple Veils throughout the game. Moonblast hits surprisingly hard, allowing Ninetales to contribute offensively as well. The combination of Snow Warning and Light Clay extends the duration of Aurora Veil, making it easier for Dragonite to find an opportunity to set up a Dragon Dance and sweep.
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 244 HP / 248 Def / 16 SpD
Impish Nature
Gliscor serves as the team's physical wall and primary hazard setter. Stealth Rock chip damage is crucial for Dragonite's late-game cleanup, helping to wear down opponents for Extreme Speed to finish off. Knock Off is a fantastic utility move, removing items and making mid-game battles easier to manage. Gliscor’s Poison Heal ability and Protect allow it to stay healthy and consistently perform its role throughout the match, supporting the team by disrupting the opponent’s strategy.
Dragapult @ Mirror Herb
Ability: Infiltrator
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 76 Atk / 180 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
Dragapult is a mixed attacker that thrives on surprise with its Mirror Herb. This set is really fun to use. Being a mixed attacker really means that more stat changes will benefit us. Thunder Wave provides excellent speed control, making it easier for Dragonite and others to outspeed threats later on. Dragon Darts and Hex offer strong STAB options, and U-turn allows Dragapult to pivot out, maintaining momentum and pressure. The Hex also benefits from Cinderace's Will-O-Wisp. This Dragapult set is versatile, contributing both offensively and defensively to the team's overall strategy.
Cinderace @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Blaze
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 224 HP / 32 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
Cinderace is the utility backbone of the team, using Will-O-Wisp to cripple physical threats and Court Change to manage entry hazards. Pyro Ball, while not the primary focus, still hits hard and can score crucial KOs when needed. Cinderace's ability to switch in freely with Heavy-Duty Boots and pivot out with U-turn keeps the pressure on the opponent while supporting the team by controlling the battlefield. Its role is to create favorable conditions for Dragonite by weakening potential threats and managing hazards.
Primarina @ Custap Berry
Ability: Torrent
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
Primarina is the team's special wallbreaker, using its powerful STAB moves to punch holes in opposing teams. Surf and Moonblast hit hard, with Calm Mind providing a secondary sweeping option if the opportunity arises. Custap Berry adds an element of surprise, often allowing Primarina to get off one last crucial move. Perish Song is because I just thought it would be funny, but I've gotten some good switches and mind games out of it. I didn't really like using Flip Turn when I had it earlier instead, but I'm open to anything. Primarina's bulk and versatility make it a valuable member of the team, setting the stage for Dragonite's late-game sweep.
Dragonite @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Multiscale
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
As said, Dragonite is the primary win condition, usually being the last Pokémon standing or the one to close out games. Its moveset allows it to hit a wide variety of threats, with Tera Normal Extreme Speed cleaning up after a Dragon Dance. Dragonite's Multiscale ability often guarantees it a free turn to set up, especially under Aurora Veil. Earthquake and Ice Spinner provide a wide range of coverage too. However, it’s crucial to deal with potential Dragonite counters during the match, as they could otherwise stop its sweep. The support from Ninetales, Gliscor, and the rest of the team is geared towards eliminating these threats, paving the way for Dragonite to sweep in the late game.
