Do you ever just have one of those nights where you can't seem to figure out what you want to do, and you end up coming up with an idea for a thread you wanted to post? Because that's exactly how I came up with this. I watch a lot of sports in my free time, and I also happen to really enjoy tier lists and rankings. So, I asked myself, what was a way I could combine those two things? And then it hit me- what if I could rank all of the teams from various sports leagues and share my opinions online with people? Better yet, what if there was a place we could all discuss this together depending on what our favorite sports and leagues are?

This isn't just some idea that I came up with so I could have an excuse to post more tier lists. This is also my way of trying to find the answers to specific questions, such as "what is Cong's (referring to this forum) favorite insert league here team overall?" or "what teams are the most and least popular among other users?". There's other fun things we could look at in a thread like this, too- for example, maybe you have a division or a conference you enjoy on average across all of its teams and you want to rank those divisions or conferences. Maybe you have favorite teams across different sports, and you feel like ranking your favorites amongst each other. One thing I know I've been trying to do over the past two years is try and pin down the closest things I can find to "favorite teams" I could watch and support in ice hockey, baseball, and basketball, since I already have a pretty comprehensive list of which football and soccer teams I like. Those five sports are what I would consider the main, major sports over here in North America where I live, but that isn't to say other smaller sports don't deserve more attention either. This thread is meant to be somewhere where fans of any sport or league can hang out and discuss their likes and dislikes.

I'll get us started off in the discussions with an NFL teams tier list I just wrapped up before starting to write this post. I'm still working on a more definitive, organized ranking of all 32 NFL teams, since this is the league I probably know the most about, but this list I came up with to start off of lists every team organized by how much I like them across their respective divisions. Every NFL division has four teams, so this tier list is pretty much me ranking all of them in first, second, third, and last place so you can all get a decent idea of which teams I like more than others.

As an added bonus, I also wanted to finish off this post with a smaller ranking of all eight NFL divisions based on how much I enjoy their collection of four teams overall. This list will be ordered from most to least favorite, and you'll also be able to see which conference I like more. Happy posting, everyone, and I can't wait to see what rankings and lists you come up with!
  1. NFC West
  2. NFC North
  3. AFC North
  4. NFC East
  5. AFC South
  6. NFC South
  7. AFC West
  8. AFC East

I'm a Panthers fan and HATE the Saints. My B teams are the Chiefs, Browns, Lions, Packers, and Cowboys, but I hate Jerry Jones so they get bumped down. Cool idea. IDK why anyone would voluntary like the bears though.

1. NFC South
2. NFC West
3. AFC North
4. NFC North

Generally speaking, I would imagine people would be more likely to rank their favorite teams within a certain league amongst each other, but I like this approach too. Out of those four leagues you mentioned, I’d say the one I know the most about and watch the most is the NFL, followed by (the) MLB, then the NHL, and then the NBA. That doesn’t necessarily mean I “dislike” any of the four, plus there’s other sports leagues I haven’t mentioned yet that I also like and watch from time to time.

In any case, my goal with this thread is to try and let people talk about their favorite teams from any league and why they like those teams. I’m looking forward to seeing people’s posts going forward, even if only for the sake of seeing if I have common interests with other people. (Now if only I could pin down my favorite NBA team…)

Well from an NFL sense I grew up in an Bills v Jets family and if you really wanted me to be totally honest my favorite teams would probably go this way:
1) Bills (sheer fandom from uncle)
2) Reid/McNabb's Eagles
3) Jets (cus family/exposure - despite rivalry, just lose to the Bills, but if yall there and Bills aint go get it)
4) the Steve Young led 49ers Superbowl team (first football game i remember watching with my grandpa)
5) the Giants team who beat the undefeated Patriots teams (*I PROMISE PROMISE PROMISE* it isnt trolls to any Pats fan, it was just a magical run to watch as a NYer - even when people discredit them a bit now saying "they're the worst team to win a SB" (one probably no, but 2) did they not beat the one according to the glazing yall gave em the most DESERVING TO WIN?! HOW is one most deserving/expecting/etc but the other ****WHO BEAT THEM*** is the worst to win???????"

(and being clear Pats fans - I appreciated the 28-3 SB with a laugh, so don't think I was just glad to see yall fall. I know the sauce the Pats had.)

I was gonna do a division team by tea breakdown cus the NFL is my thing but it got crazy long. lol

I mean, I only really follow 2 professional leagues.

Fortunately both teams have had some success while I’ve been watching them. Objectively I have to rank them this way.

1. Penrith Panthers (NRL) - Won a premiership in 2003. But, big success recently. Have won 4 consecutive premierships, and lost in the grand final the previous year. This is despite at least losing one Representative player (usually more) each year (equivalent to say, all star). A salary cap was introduced for the league in 1990, since then the best a team had done was win back to back. No team had won 3 in a row since the early 80’s, and no team 4 in a row since the 50’s-60’s (Dragons, won 11 in a row). Courtesy of a great junior system and the best player in the world they’ve incredibly managed to keep it going. So lucky to be their fan and to witness this era. (had been 18 years since their previous premiership, when I was 9 years old)

2. Golden State Warriors (NBA). Probably don’t need to explain much here. Would be up there in ranking against many other teams across many other sports but objectively, its hard/virtually impossible for any team in any league in recent times to compete with what the Panthers have done.

Hope you enjoyed a little NRL rant! And if you’re in America (or even if not!) definitely tune in to the games being played in Vegas on March 1st! Not only NRL but NRLW (women’s) and Super League (the English league) are also playing! Hoping to gain many new fans, its an exciting and fast paced sport. For NFL fans - no pads, no helmets, far fewer breaks in play, everyone has to play offense and defense.

My ranking of how much I'd like to watch an NBA team on a random Tuesday night:
Screenshot 2025-02-17 at 4.17.26 PM.png

What's in common with the teams at the top is unpredictability. Wemby, Jokic, and Edwards have the deepest bag of tricks in the league. The Cavs are like poetry in motion and have the league's best fans. Still love Giannis and Kawhi but they have had injury issues. Of course, these rankings are different on the weekends or playoffs. No NFL or college football to compete with is massive for the league as well.

I can't believe that you're not enough of a sophisticate for the majesty that is Detroit Pistons basketball. Sad!

Running the numbers and your favorite team seems to be the seahawks. Thank you for your continued support while we work on our new football robot, named "Marshawn Lynch 2: Electric Boogaloo"

-Seattle Citizen

unrelated/more related note depending on who you ask but my favorite sports team is the seahawks because they're the only ones I can be bothered to support since my dad only watches football (i'm not huge on sports). Heart goes out to the brisbourne lions and whatever team lebron is on as well.

This is probably the most I’ll ever post about my actual location on the Forums, but the truth is, I’m not from Seattle myself, or anywhere close by. I won’t say where I’m from for online safety purposes, but I will say that me liking the Seahawks originally stemmed from a hilarious misconception I had as a kid that the flag football season I was only a part of for… one season for some reason (still not sure why they stopped ro this day) was ran by the actual, real life NFL.

Five or six year old me or however old I was remembering being so excited that I, quote, “played for Seattle” before later learning the truth. It was just a fun memory to look back on, even if it was only for one year. As luck would have it though, that’s not where the story ends, as it was around this same time that I learned where Seattle actually was that the Seahawks and the famous “Legion of Boom” rose to power in the NFL for a spell in the middle of the 2010s. I had already started playing as the Seahawks in the old Madden NFL games at this point and the timing of all of this led me to become very nostalgic for the team, in the same way that I might be nostalgic for older Nintendo games or something.

You’d be right that the Seahawks were my favorite team growing up, though in recent years I’ve started watching the whole league a lot more than I used to. Seattle and our “local teams” (and the Jaguars on account of my Jacksonville relatives) are still my favorites on average, but any of the first-place teams I ranked within their own divisions I enjoy watching, and it’s also worth noting that the Eagles are starting to give the Seahawks a run for their money at my #1 top spot. Before anyone accuses me of hopping on the bandwagon, it’s not the team itself I’m a fan of, but rather the Eagles Autism Foundation. As someone with a fondness for and studying the field myself, I think it’s incredible that any sports franchise can try and make an active effort to help individuals like they have. Seriously, go look up some of the things they’ve done if you’re bored sometime. It’s not every day that an autism foundation vaults a team into my consensus Top 2, and I dream for the day when I can find NBA, NHL, and MLB teams I respect this much.

TLDR; the Seahawks are still my most nostalgic and overall favorite team from my time in the late 2000s and early-to-mid 2010s, but I have other local teams I like too and the Eagles are a franchise I have a lot of respect for.

Context: grew up east side of Pennsylvania, went to college at Penn State, now live in Baltimore

Ride or Die: Eagles, Penn State
Love them despite everything: Sixers, Phillies
Fan out of obligation but could take or leave: Flyers, Union
They’re local so they’re okay I guess: Ravens, Orioles
Neutral: Pretty much everyone else
Dislike: Braves, Michigan
Loathe Entirely: Celtics, Cowboys, Ohio State

The only Pistons I've watched is when Brandon Miller had a game-winning putback against them in Charlotte. Now that was a great game!

Fun fact, as a lil kid i was the biggest Muggsy Bouges fan had a full on 90s hornets sweater/sweatpants combo but we had to do gymnastics in that day of gym......
my pants split trying to do a split in class and i just walked closed legged all day cus i love the fit too much lol.

My lady is originally a DMV girl so ima go ahead and rank the teams i'm forced to watch via her too lol:

Nationals: Thank god she isn't a baseball fan and only watches them in the post season lol - as a Mets fan myself, just no.
Wizards: It's an LOL from her too bruh - legit like their jerseys at least?
Capitals: Neither us know much but she knows Ovechkin and wants him to break Gretsky's record cus she remembers him as a Ranger and she's applying DC vs NY sports energy and i'm like "I'm an Islanders fan tho?"
Commanders: One team I legit can rock with her on watching, esp since Synder gtfo - i have no skin in any NFC game realm really so i can root for her side to get to the SB (knowing damn well least last decade ive been with her they wont lol) just to be supportive.... but being fair her knowing my teams was probably same way.
Edit* relationship hack finding a spouse with a fandom from the opposite conference makes like a lot easier (NFL wise at least; main thing we follow, as Knicks/Wizards fans we havent had much to follow for awhile) lol.

As for Baltimore being local - she doesn't care for Baltimore.. me personally no issue I always enjoy watching Ravens games and the Orioles are doing god's work when/if they overtake the Yankees so no issue with the Baltimore teams here really lol.
