So I just got back into playing pokemon, and I made this rain team over a few days. I've been trying to figure it out by myself, but someone asked me for the team and told me about this forum. My issue right now is move sets for Pelipper and Bronzong, as well as, my reliance on life orbs and choice whatevers. The team itself has done well over all, but I know it can be better, but I'm not entirely sure what to do.
Heliolisk @ Choice Specs
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunder
- Weather Ball
- Focus Blast
- Dark Pulse
Heliolisk is the wide range sweeper that can cover a plethora of type weaknesses. Thunder is the move I use the most because of STAB, weather ball is for landorus and toehr ground types. I just really like focus blast, and dark pulse is coverage for spectrier and dragapult. He is solid and I am very happy with him. The dry skin is a better replacement for leftovers, but with leftovers, he can recover about 18% health every turn. Seeing as he's a fast sweeper, having extra healing seems kind of redundant. I was thinking about giving him the magnet, but that doesn't benefit the other moves in his set. What would another beneficial item for him be? Is the choice specs the best item for him?
Pelipper @ Leftovers
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hurricane
- Roost
- Tailwind
- Ice Beam
Pelipper is the primary rain starter. Using his ability drizzle, the rain starts automatically. If he is strong against the current opponent, then I will keep him in. 9 times out of 10 though, I'll switch him out for Regieleki or Heliolisk right away. With the drizzle ability, I can save a turn and even switch out tight away if I don't like the look of the opponent. I like having hurricane and roost on him because Hurricane is just a strong move and roost allows me to keep him alive in case Bronzong gets KOed. I don't like tailwind because it feels as though it has no effect (Regieleki and Barraskewda are already insanely fast), and ice beam does essentially nothing against anyone.
Bronzong @ Damp Rock
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Def / 252 SpD
Impish Nature
- Rain Dance
- Stealth Rock
- Meteor Beam
- Steel Roller
This is the second problem pokemon in my team. Bronzong is my mid-game rain dancer. By giving him the damp rock, I can keep my heavy hitters in longer. Stealth rock is a great entry hazard. My issue is finding two more moves that feel right. Currently, I have Meteor Beam and Steel roller. Steel roller is good for getting rid of the terrains that Rilloboom and the tapus bring in, but it hasn't been all that helpful. Meteor Shot does dismal damage and the two turn build up really makes the move way worse. At one point it had toxic and protect on, but I didn't like having no direct damage moves.
Barraskewda @ Choice Band
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Liquidation
- Aqua Jet
- Psychic Fangs
- Poison Jab
Barraskewda is my sweeper for all ground types. His main job it to prevent ground types form obliterating my two main sweepers, Regieleki and Heliolisk. He also has psychic fangs for reflect and light screen as well. He has the same problem as Regieleki and Heliolisk. I like having the choice band on him, but having to switch every time I want to use a different move is annoying and sometimes puts me in a really bad spot. The issue is when my other sweepers are KOed and all I have left is him and pelipper or bronzong.
Regieleki @ Life Orb
Ability: Transistor
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunder
- Thunder Cage
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
I am very happy with this set up. Thunder is perfectly accurate in rain and thunder cage prevents the switch outs when the opponent realize what is happening. Rest and sleep talk is a great combo because I have not seen anyone else run them and it is always a surprise to my opponent. The fact that sleep talk can trigger rest is super annoying though. I'm not sure why that is a thing. Initially, I had the magnet on because he was using only electric moves, but I liked having the additional ten percent from the life orb and rest and sleep talk made it so that health was never really a problem as long as he didn't get one shot.
Hawlucha @ Life Orb
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up
- Substitute
- Brave Bird
- Drain Punch
Hawlucha is just coverage for other types and such. I didn't like having all of my pokemon rely on the rain, so I added him. I had substitute and focus punch because I thought that would work, but regardless of what moved was used, I felt as though I was always getting one shot. Because of this, I switched out focus punch for drain punch. I was thinking of replacing brave bird, but having drain punch makes the recoil less of an issue.

Here is the copy bit for the team. I changed the power herb on Hawlucha to the life orb. I forgot to change it.
