Raichu

QC: Megazard, Anty, Raiza
GP: Mr. Uncompetitive, Snobalt

[OVERVIEW]

Raichu is a decent wallbreaker with access to Nasty Plot, good coverage, and a high Special Attack. Raichu has excellent Speed that lets it outrun the majority of the PU tier, allowing it to revenge kill and clean up while still being able to wallbreak. Raichu is also good at taking advantage of forced switches by pivoting with Volt Switch or setting up with Nasty Plot. Raichu faces a lot of competition from the faster Zebstrika and Electrode, but it has the advantages of hitting harder and having access to Nasty Plot. It also faces competition with Electabuzz, which is bulkier, but Raichu is a little faster and has Nasty Plot. Finally, Raichu is very frail, meaning that it is easily revenge killed and has a hard time setting up.

[SET]
name: Nasty Plot
move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Focus Blast
move 4: Hidden Power Ice
item: Life Orb
ability: Lightningrod
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Nasty Plot greatly increases Raichu's power and allows it to break through bulky teams. Thunderbolt is Raichu's best STAB move with its good power and no drawbacks. Focus Blast gives Raichu good coverage and hits Pokemon like Audino and Regice, while Hidden Power Ice does good damage to Grass-types and Ground-types, such as Gourgeist-XL and Stunfisk. Surf is a viable option instead of Focus Blast to hit Stunfisk, Golem, and Solrock harder while still hitting Probopass decently hard; however, Raichu loses a lot of coverage and wallbreaking potential and is forced to run Static.

Set Details
========

The given EVs maximize Raichu's good Speed and Special Attack. A Timid nature is used instead of a Modest nature to let Raichu to Speed tie with Jumpluff and outspeed everything slower such as Simipour, Ninetales, and Dodrio. Lightningrod can boost Raichu's Special Attack while also giving Raichu an immunity to Electric-type moves. Life Orb increases Raichu's damage so that it can wallbreak more easily.

Usage Tips
========

Raichu's primary focus should be to wallbreak mid-game; however, Nasty Plot should only be used against bulkier Pokemon such as specially defensive Clefairy and Grumpig, as the extra power is needed to damage them enough for a KO. Late-game cleaning is possible against slower teams once they have been softened up enough. Raichu's nice Speed tier also lets it revenge kill Pokemon like as Stoutland, Simipour, and Rapidash. Nasty Plot can be used on forced switches. Raichu should never be switched in directly because it is so frail. Priority move users, such as Dodrio and Pawniard, and Choice Scarf users, such as Simipour and Sawsbuck, are important to take out because many of their attacks can KO Raichu. In addition, Raichu should be wary of switching into Electric-type attacks because it can be severely crippled by a mispredicted move.

Team Options
========

Water-types such as Floatzel and Simipour and Flying-types such as Dodrio appreciate Raichu's immunity to Electric, which also stops Volt Switch, while they can get rid of Ground- and Grass-types, respectively, for it. Fire-types such as Simisear and Monferno can KO Grass-types in exchange for Raichu KOing the majority of Water-types for them. Entry hazard setters such as Roselia and Metang make Raichu's job of wallbreaking easier by weakening the opponent's Pokemon. For example, one layer of Spikes or Stealth Rock will ensure the OHKO on Regice with a +2 Focus Blast. Entry hazard removal from the likes of Pelipper and Swanna makes it easier for Raichu to switch in. Slow Volt Switch and U-turn users such as Probopass and Vibrava can give Raichu free switches. Mr. Mime and Clefairy can use Healing Wish to let Raichu have a second chance at wallbreaking or cleaning. Roselia lures such as Knock Off Tangela, Knock Off Simipour, and Choice Band Floatzel can weaken or KO Roselia so that it can't check Raichu.

[SET]
name: All-Out-Attacker
move 1: Thunderbolt
move 2: Volt Switch
move 3: Surf
move 4: Hidden Power Ice
item: Life Orb
ability: Static
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Volt Switch lets Raichu pivot and gain momentum on an obvious switch or an unfavorable matchup. Thunderbolt is a powerful STAB move for Raichu to use when staying in. Surf is Raichu's main coverage move and hits Rock- and Ground-types, such as Camerupt and Stunfisk, much harder than any other move. Hidden Power Ice is a secondary coverage move that hits Grass-types, such as Gourgeist-XL and Jumpluff.

Set Details
========

Life Orb gives Raichu more power to be a more threatening cleaner. Maximum Special Attack investment boosts Raichu's already good Special Attack, while maximum Speed investment with a Timid nature lets it outspeed fast Pokemon such as Simisear and Simisage. Static must be Raichu's ability because Lightningrod is incompatible with Surf.
Usage Tips
========

In the early-game, Raichu will be using Volt Switch to pivot out of and wear down its counters such as Clefairy and Grumpig to weaken them. As the match goes on, Raichu can be used as both a revenge killer and a late-game cleaner. Raichu is too frail to come in on direct hits, so the best option is to come in on a teammate's slow Volt Switch, U-turn, or after a teammate faints. Ground-types and Lightningrod users need to be weakened enough so that Raichu can take them out by itself, as otherwise, Raichu can't use Volt Switch and Thunderbolt safely.

Team Options
========

Raichu should be paired with Water-types, such as Floatzel and Simipour, because they can easily get rid of Ground-types. Flying-types such as Dodrio and Chatot can KO Grass-types that resist Raichu's STAB moves. Fire-types such as Monferno and Simisear can also take out Grass-types for Raichu, while Raichu can take out Water-types for them in return. Defoggers such as Swanna and Pelipper can clear the field of entry hazard, which is important because Raichu already takes so much residual damage from Life Orb. Ninjask and other U-turn users can make a nice VoltTurn core with Raichu, and some slower users of pivoting moves can be used so that Raichu can have an easy time switching in. Knock Off users such as Machoke and Simisage can remove Eviolite and Leftovers from foes so that Raichu has an easier time weakening them with Volt Switch.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Choice Scarf lets Raichu outspeeds the entire unboosted tier, as well as many Choice Scarf Pokemon in PU, helping it land surprise KOs on fast Pokemon such as Floatzel and Ninjask, but Raichu loses a lot of power by forgoing Life Orb, making it quite underwhelming at times. Raichu also faces competition from Electabuzz as an Electric-type Choice Scarf user, although Raichu has the advantage of outspeeding Stoutland in the sand. Choice Specs is also a usable item for more power than Life Orb, but getting locked into one move is horrible for Raichu and not worth the extra power. Choice Band Raichu can be used due to its access to priority in the form of Extreme Speed, strong Electric-type STAB moves in Volt Tackle and Wild Charge, and Knock Off. However, Raichu can't use Volt Tackle in conjunction with Extreme Speed, both of which are crucial moves for physical Raichu. Knock Off instead of a coverage move can be used to remove Eviolite from Pokemon like Roselia, Clefairy, and Machoke that try to switch in. Encore can also be used to lock the foe into an ineffective move such as an Electric-type attack. Finally, Substitute is an option for the Nasty Plot set and can be used alongside Salac Berry instead of Life Orb to increase Raichu's Speed after setting up.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground-types**: Ground-types such as Golem and Camerupt completely shut down Raichu's STAB moves, simultaneously preventing it from escaping with Volt Switch. Stunfisk needs to be extremely weakened for Hidden Power Ice or Surf to KO it.

**Grass-types**: Bulky Grass-types such as Roselia, Gogoat, and Gourgeist-XL all give Raichu trouble by taking little damage from its STAB attacks. Hidden Power Ice doesn't do enough to KO them unless they are severally weakened. Roselia in particular is the best check to Raichu because of its high special bulk.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Raichu has trouble breaking through specially defensive Pokemon, such as Grumpig and Audino, until it gets enough Nasty Plot boosts. These Pokemon can also KO Raichu or in Audino's case possibly Encore it into Nasty Plot.

**Faster Pokemon**: Faster Pokemon such as Floatzel and Zebstrika can greatly damage or KO Raichu because of its frailness. Any viable Choice Scarf users, notably Simipour and Mr. Mime, can outspeed and KO Raichu once it is weakened.

**Residual Damage**: Entry hazards, status conditions, and Life Orb recoil can quickly weaken Raichu until it can't switch in or use a move without getting KOed.

**Priority Attackers**: Priority moves such as Pawniard's Sucker Punch and Monferno's Mach Punch can easily revenge kill a weakened Raichu due to its frailness and its own lack of priority. Murkrow is notable in that it can OHKO Raichu with Sucker Punch after Stealth Rock damage.

the np set should have surf slashed with focus blast because it hits stunfisk while still hitting pilo

e: also the first set is adamant lmao might want to fix that

I would put the Nasty Plot set first, followed by Life Orb, and then the Choice Scarf set (yes I know). Whether the first two sets should be in the opposite order and whether Scarf is even worth inclusion are two debatable things though.

Okay I'll ask around to see what is the favorable sets to put.
Oh, and fixed what you said to fix Mag

Scarf is horrible, it's a worse scarf electabuzz that is weaker in exchange for being able to outspeed only one other thing which isn't even common. All the actually strong scarfers outspeed everything that electabuzz does too. It's just so weak and only beats one thing that every other scarfer doesn't

I feel like I am QC ready. And if anyone is wondering why I didn't but Encore on any of the sets, I don't feel like it is very effective on this more offensive meta, but tell me if you feel otherwise and I can add it
Edit: Should I add physical Raichu to OO? I know it is not very good, but E-Speed plus a good damage STAB isn't horrible + it has decent Attack

Surf is illegal with lrod :(

Scarf is actually a better Ebuzz since Raichu outspeeds Stoutland, they have same bulk, and ebuzz just has slightly more spa and psychic

The overview is looking weak, as it doesn't really say much about the mon in the meta. Read this and try to make the overview more substantial and PU relevant:
http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/writing-pu-analyses-required-reading.3534669/

1st set:
Hm im not too convinced that surf is worth a slash, as hp ice already does a good amount to stunfisk (which isnt hard to wear down to 60% or so), and you lose important coverage vs stuff like licki/regice

In UT the first and second point are basically the exact same thing. Regarding the third line, saying the weaker the opposing team is makes it easier to wallbreak sounds pretty dumb imo as raichu is the thing that breaks walls. You should also mention that wallbreaking is its no1 priority, whereas it can also clean if the foe has a slowish team. Also coming in on electric moves is pretty risky (the main electric types are zebby and stun, and the former can outspeed and do 70%, and latter beats you too)

For TO, physical wallbreakers dont pair any better w/ raichu than they do any other poke, and also you should mention a few ways to bait roselia as that is the no1 defensive check to this set (knock off tang for example). I also dont think monferno should be separated from other fire types as its not like piloswine lives a +2 hit, and also many other fires can dent pilo

2nd set:
I wouldnt say jumpluff is the most notable target for hp ice

This UT looks c/p from the other one, which shouldn't be done for analyses, and the only other line that you have added is just 'general knowledge'

Healing wish doesnt help this set more than any other poke (it is fine for the other set as you can wallbreak first time around while being warn down, then go back to full and possibly clean). Same thing applies with the last set regarding physical wallbreakers though

Mention knock off in oo as it screws over roselia (also clef). Also a full physical set is good enough to be mentioned (though note volt tackle and espeed are illegal)

c&c should be in an order of most relevant and most effective first. I wouldnt go as far as to say priority 'shuts down' raichu. In grass types you defo should mention roselia as its the most common one and the best check. In bulky pokemon u say 'In addition, they can use Raichu as setup fodder', but you dont mention the mons that do use it as fodder.

Okay, I think I edited everything you asked me to Anty

  • Improved the overview and separated the order it was in into pros, facts, and then cons
  • Moved Surf to OO if that is okay with you
  • Tried to improve the UT as much as I can and removed Healing Wish and Physical wallbreakers from TO
  • Made sure that Jumpluff doesn't sound like the most important HP Ice target on set 2
  • Varied the UT for the second set as much as I could
  • Added Knock Off and Physical Set in OO
  • I removed Priority from Checks and Counters because that applies to any squishy fast Pokemon and tried to organize it from most important to least. I started with types first because they are the most broad meaning the most threatening too, then went to types of Pokemon, then moves, and tried to keep it from most deadly to least deadly
Tell me if I missed anything, and I'll gladly fix it

Surf should be in Moves, not OO. I would prefer a slash though as I never found Lightningrod that helpful.

Late on my end, so I'll make a few comments:

In the Overview, mention that Raichu is also hampered by Life Orb recoil and entry hazards. Probably should replace the word squishy with ffrail instead for all cases (it doesn't die to a Tackle ya know.)

1st Set:

In Set Details, mention that Life Orb wears Raichu down with every attack. For Usage Tips, Ground-types don't necessarily have to be removed as if they're in a weakened state, Raichu can take them out on its own. I'd also replace Dodrio with Pelipper as Scarf Dodrio is a thing and Raichu won't like taking a Return from it. Also mention priority users should be eliminated as well. Give some examples of hazard setters for Team Options and what KOs it helps Raichu achieve. Wallbreakers need a mention as well as they make it easier on Raichu to sweep.

2nd Set:

Replace Jumpluff with Gourgeist as a target for HP Ice as it does resist Raichu's Electric STAB and is immune to Focus Blast. Volt Switch should probably be the first move mentioned on the set as you are going to be gaining momentum first and foremost with the switches Raichu can force. Again, Ground-types don't necessarily have to be removed as if they're in a weakened state, Raichu can take them out on its own.

Encore can go in OO as it can lock the foe into an unfavorable move at the expense of giving up coverage. Space out the Checks and Counters idk why you have them all scrunched together like that. Priority users should get a mention if not a seperate section, then at least it should be mentioned in Residual Damage.

Overview
Mention it also misses the outspeed on zebra with floatzel
You don't need to mention LO at all, just cut out that part and leave how nasty plot is good
Piloswine doesnt exactly do amazing versus raichu, you can condense the roselia part into the having trouble with bulky pokemon part

Moves 1
Stop overusing "nails" please
We know what moves hit super effectively, focus more on relevant coverage than "focus blast hits normal rock ice steel"

set details 1
4 EVs not going in HP also give raichu a LO number

Usage tips 1
Just say nasty on things that you force out, I'm not entirely sure what "aimed to be used" is although it sounds like the same thing
I don't see why the second bullet needs to exist, chu often doesnt get multiple setup opportunities and it doesnt really give useful info
Mention how you don't always need to set up a nasty plot, it's just needed to break through bulkier mons like spdef clef

Team options 1
Why do they appreciate lightningrod? Specify that it helps to prevent free volts
It's entry hazard setters, not hazards users. Also mention SR setters there
I think you mean roselia lures? just use that since the meaning is unclear
Mention the slow volt/turners that were said necessary in usage tips

Moves 2
"HP ice has good synergy with raichu's other moves" not worth saying, just mention it hits grasses and grounds or whatever

usage tips 2
Ground types don't really need to be removed? Like, you can focus blast the most relevant ones so only stunfisk is really important (mention it instead)
Mention that early game you're more likely to be volt switching out of your counters like clef or pig to weaken them for later
volt switch shouldnt be used if you're slower than something that's gonna KO you
This seems small but I cant think of more things? idk maybe look over and see if there's more to add

team options 2
Again the high emphasis on non-fisk grounds in general is a little odd, I'd just specify fisk killers
"troublesome grass types that raichu hates" lol
Knock users help just weaken teams for raichu to pivot all around them in general, it's more than just crippling rose
This section is somewhat short overall, try to expand on the bullets, not just things like "U-turn + Raichu = good"

other options
Nothing to add but this could be written a lot better
Encore a viable move to use. In exchange for locking a Pokemon into an unviable move such as an Electric-type attack, Raichu loses some important coverage. It also helps against defensive Pokemon by locking them in moves such as Protect so you can weaken them with no trouble

Things like this just sound awkward, maybe it'll come out better when you write it up but there's no reason for this to be three distinct sentences, I think you mean ineffective attacks not unviable ones, and the diction is odd.

C&C
Mention how stunfisk is raichu's best counter. after that pilo and golem can check but that's by far the most important thing to mention here
Spdef/Faster Pokemon also need to be written better

Although uncommon, bulky Pokemon such as Grumpig still roam PU and can shrug off hits from Raichu. In addition, they can use Raichu as setup fodder. They must be careful of well timed Nasty Plots though because that can destroy their chance of stopping Raichu.

How are they that uncommon? Also give more examples and make it more clear that nasty plotting on the switch can allow raichu to break past but and the LO set can at least pivot on the switch-in

Faster Pokemon score easy KOes on Raichu due to its squishiness. Some faster Pokemon include Ninjask and Floatzel. Also, most scarfer pass the 350 speed mark so they also can score easy KOes on Raichu. Some notable scarfers are Simipour and Mr. Mime
Squishiness lol. Also just condense sentences like the last two, it could just be rewritten as "All viable scarfers, most notably Simipour and Mr. Mime, also outspeed Raichu and can KO it when when weakened." Just something like that, there are lots of places in this analysis where one sentence has been split into two for no apparent reason

Implement these and then I'll look over it again ExplosiveChaos

please don't mass tag QC, it's annoying as fuck and won't really get anywhere. As you can see by looking at the subforum, QC work in general has been going really really slowly, both writing and checking, so it's naturally gonna be dead. It's also been 4 days, that's nowhere near long enough to warrant this. Calling it 1/3, just change it from "the simis" to simipour.

Although this doesn't completely excuse what I did, sorry about doing that, I am new to this. I can see why it would really annoy people who are extremely busy as it is and it has only been 4 days. So sorry
Edit: Fixed the simis thing, was wondering anyways if there was a better way to word "simis"

The overview still has a lot of irrelevant stuff, for example:
'Fits well on offensive teams such as HO'
That is very irrelevant for an overview as it doesnt even say anything about the mon, yet its roll in the metagame

Nasty Plot makes Raichu much more threatening against bulkier teams
Decent coverage with Focus Blast and Hidden Power Ice
Lightning Rod stops enemies from getting free momentum from Volt Switch
Fits well on offensive teams such as HO
Raichu has trouble breaking through bulky Pokemon without a +2
Raichu is very frail so it can be quite easily KOed

This doesn't say anything that a new player wont know by looking at the dex. Somethings here are relevant, but they should mention stuff about the PU metagame

1st set:
Piloswine mention in moves - remember to remove all of them

'Nasty Plot doesn't need to be used, only against bulkier Pokemon like Special defensive Clefairy and Grumpig' - This contradicts with the line above it

c&c:
Mention more examples in ground-types

ExplosiveChaos the analysis is looking good, but the overview needs some work

[OVERVIEW]
it isn't one of the best wallbreakers, it's ok
mention what roles this performs
mention raichu can take large advantages from forcing switches, such as setting up a nplot or gaining momentun with vswitch
mention competition with electabuzz
mention being frail also comports being easy to revengekill and hard to find setup

SET1:

Set Details
========
mention LO drawbacks

Usage Tips
========
why should be nplot used on bulkier pokemon? explain why
mention nplot can also be used on forced opposing switches
also slow u-turn/baton pass is good to bring raichu with safety in
mention you should also take care of choice scarf users before trying to set up with raichu, and why
mention that even if it carries lightning rod raichu can still be killed by things such as zebby and electrode if it gets caught by a move that isn't Electric-type.
because it's frail, so should be weary in switching into them anyways

Team Options
========
i don't think you should mention sticky webs here, raichu is still pretty fast so doesn't need sticky webs support in most cases, and there are better slow set up sweepers that can take advantage of sticky webs in a better way

SET2:

Set Details
========
mention LO drawbacks
i would make better examples of things to outspeed here with a timid nature, as both simipour and dodrio run choice scarf in most cases

Usage Tips
========
mention it should be weary switching on things such as zebby here too
also slow u-turn can bring raichu in
mention that if the opp carries a lightning rod user or others electric-type immunities, raichu should be weary before using thunderbolt and especially vswitch

Team Options
========
hazard removers are nice for almost everyone, mention why they're good paired especially with raichu

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
mention substitute for nplot set
mention salac + sub for nplot set

Checks and Counters
===================
mention status in residual damage, and mention what being too weakened implies
add a category for priority
in spdef mons, mention how these pokemon can threaten raichu back
