Quaxwell is a metagame staple for NFE, being a crucial backbone to many teams for its ability to remove entry hazards, check top physically offensive threats, and provide defensive pivoting for its teammates. Quaxwell is the best removal option due to its great defensive typing, matchup into entry hazard setters, and reliable recovery. Encore is a great tool to punish foes trying to take advantage of its passivity by setting up such as Fraxure, Gabite, and Wartortle. Surf can be used over Encore on teams that already have great counterplay to these setup users, giving Quaxwell a better way to punish the likes of Piloswine, Pignite, and Misdreavus without being forced to pivot with Flip Turn. Impish is preferred if Surf is chosen over Encore.

Quaxwell fits in most structures except on offense / hyper offense where Wartortle might be favored. It plays an important role in checking top threats like Pilowsine, Pignite, and Wartortle, which teammates like Tinkatuff and Naclstack appreciate. Eviolite is the most used item in the metagame, meaning entry hazard stacking is a very strong strategy for taking down Quaxwell's teammates, so it is vital at stopping these setters like Piloswine, Frogadier, and Tinkatuff. Quaxwell likes to be paired with Pokemon like Sliggoo-Hisui, Koffing, and Tinkatuff, since they can check common Grass-types like Thwackey, Servine, and Ivysaur. Many teams to have Misdreavus in order to stop Quaxwell from removing hazards, so teammates such as Vigoroth and Monferno are great for being able to switch in and punish Misdreavus. Quaxwell struggles into heavy hitting special attackers like Girafarig, Misdreavus and Sliggoo-Hisui, so teammates like Vigoroth, Dunsparce and Tinkatuff help keep them at bay. Keeping its Eviolite is very important for it being able to check all of these threats it is tasked with handling, so Knock Off absorbers such as Koffing and Tinkatuff are greatly appreciated.

Other Options
=============

Triple Axel is an option to catch the other notable Rapid Spin blocker, Drakloak, off guard for heavy damage, as well as the Grass-types that would normally switch in safely.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Servine, Ivysaur, and Thwackey all greatly threaten Quaxwell with their STAB Grass-type attacks.

**Strong Special Attackers**: Girafarig, Sliggoo-Hisui, and offensive variants of Misdreavus can exploit Quaxwell's weaker Special Defense and general passivity.

**Knock Off Users**: Pignite, Monferno, and Tinkatuff can lure Quaxwell in and remove its Eviolite, making it easier to take down later in the game.

**Taunt Users**: Vigoroth and Misdreavus can block Quaxwell's ability to Roost which can inhibit its ability to perform its role to its full potential.

Triple Axel is an option to catch the other notable Rapid Spin blocker, Drakloak, off guard for heavy damage, as well as the Grass-types that would normally switch in safely. Triple Axel's consistency is shaky and Quaxwell would preferably pivot with Flip Turn out of these matchups. I'd say that Quaxwell can customize its EV spreads to be a mixed wall like 252 HP / 188 Def / 68 SpD with a Careful nature to survive special rolls like +2 Girafarig's Thunderbolt/+2 Misdreavus's Nasty Plot or something fast like 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 Spe to outspeed Pignite at the cost of being worse at being a physical wall.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Servine, Ivysaur, and Thwackey all greatly threaten Quaxwell with their STAB Grass-type attacks and can also heavily threaten it with Knock Off.

I'd rephrase to Item Disruptors to include Trick/Switcheroo users like Frogadier and Hattrem as well, considering Quaxwell does even worse at its role when Choiced

**Taunt Users**: Vigoroth and Misdreavus can block Quaxwell's ability to Roost which can inhibit its ability to perform its role to its full potential.
